How GOOD was Daniel Cormier Actually?
Daniel Cormier will go down as one of the best to ever do it. The former Olympic wrestler quickly made a name for himself in Strikeforce where he won the heavyweight grand prix tournament and that momentum continued into the UFC where he became a double champion. But when it comes to the GOAT conversation, his name is not one that is at the top of the list. So how good was Daniel Cormier actually?

Started striking and competing in MMA at age *30* Became a champion in two separate organisations at age *31* Won the Strikeforce HW Grand Prix at age *33* Became the UFC LHW champion at age *36* Defended the LHW belt for the last time, after 3 successful defenses and 1 NC, at age *38* Won and defended the UFC HW title, becoming the second two-division champion, first HW and LHW double champion, and *first* to hold AND defend two separate titles, at age *39* Fought his last fight, a competitive 3rd bout against the most successful UFC heavyweight of all time, at age *41* You cannot deny that DC is definitely in the top 10 greatest of all time, maybe even top 5, just based on his resume alone. Only ever lost to two fighters, one of which is a known cheater, and both of whom are considered the best of all time for their weight classes. Just imagine how many former champions have lost it by age 35 - Shogun, Rashad Evans, Fedor, Cro Cop... DC was a double champ at *39* years old!! Just imagine if he started MMA training at 16. .. He could've been a triple champion easily if he started at middleweight and worked his way up. That's completely ignoring all of his other achievements and accomplishments outside of the Octagon and how much of a class-act he was as an ambassador for the sport. A truly legendary career!

Think it's also worth mentioning he was 40/41 years old when he had his last fight. I would've fancied his changes against Stipe if he was still in his prime. For someone who achieved so much I think DC is massively underrated. Especially considering Anthony Rumble Johnson was on a total rampage when DC beat him, Vulkan was also in form and nobody else wanted to fight Derrick Lewis. He always seemed to fight the toughest opponents. There's no comparison when you look at that compared to people like Bisping who cherry picked softer opponents after he won the middle weight title or even GSP who, on his return, wanted nothing to do with the divisions top contenders.

9.5/10 is a pretty accurate assessment of DC's career. He was a champ in two divisions, fought and beat everybody but the absolute best, and the two men he lost to are perhaps the GOAT in their divisions respectively. He did manage to defeat Stipe once even though he ultimately lost the trilogy. He's not a 10 only because of these losses and the eye pokes he learnt from Jon Jones.

@@spookrockcity It's sad watching that second fight knowing Jones popped. It ruins everything in it because Daniel looked Phenomenal but Jones was just that much better in every category and you can't appreciate any of it because you know that he had to of taken roids. Popping like that after a godly and near supernaturally good performance makes it way too obvious. I don't know how people still debate this.

There really isnt man, its kinda like that anime one punch man,even the worst S class hero is still S class and there arent 50 people pr creatures in the world who can beat them, then ya got freaks like mayweather and Jon Jones who simply never lose like ever cause there freaks and God gifted as well as put in the work like them or not,but even guys like Pacquaio or Juan Marquez are insane even if floyd beats even them easily or Jones beats Cormier clearly....and hell Dc was so great seems people forget he gave Jon Jones his what 2 out of 3 hardest fights ever as well.Point is at that level being 2nd best is no shame at all.

I smell casuals... When you're 5'11 vs 6'5 you have to fight with outstretched hands to hand-fight and catch punches. Because the gloves are badly designed this can result in accidental eye pokes - which happen in like 40% of fights anyway... DC has always been hated by casuals, and he's now the only fighter who is accused of deliberately eye poking. Even when Stipe jabs with his fingers knuckle-deep into DC's eye, the casuals are still calling DC the eye-poker saying he deserves it whatever. If he is an eye poker, why did he not do it against any of his previous opponents when fighting for the LHW title, or against his nemesis Jon Jones? Seems like DC's and Stipe's style of fighting combined results in some eye pokes - they both received eye pokes in all 3 fights FYI... I wish people would actually draw attention to the design of the gloves and how they should be changed to prevent eye pokes, solving the problem forever. But sure, I guess because you're like 12 years old - "DC is eye poker lel"...

@micalzoncillo249

@@RichardVSmall ohh screw you, Miocic poked him only in the 3rd fight, the other 2 was Cormier the only one that poked him, DC won the first fight because of the eyepokes (that was how he landed the overhand that knocked Miocic, he couldn't see it) and Cormier would have won the 2nd fight if he hadn't stoped poking, but he did and got outboxed and schooled, watch them again if you don't believe me. I don't hate Cormier, I saw the video where he get's pissed because of John Jones positive test, he was willing to fight him anyway even if he was roided out, DC is the real deal but Miocic's eye poke and Daniel's torned cornea is fucking poetic karma. I'm really happy he lost, and you can't call me casual just because I rooted for Miocic. and yes, i saw the Joe Rogan interview with Trevor Wittman where they discuss the design of the gloves and how the UFC doesn't care for the health of their fighters, you're not the only one that listens that podcast. also, stop acusing people of being casuals and 12 year olds, it makes you look like an asshole.
