I just heard my friend say that Kobe is the GOAT not because he was so good at the game, it was also because he wasn't a ball hog and gave some tips to Even Devin Booker which now i see how great Kobe is.

For those who never saw him play or caught him at the tail end of his career and look at his overall career stats and wonder why Kobe gets so much adulation and love from the older generation, let me give you some context. Between 1999 and 2013 (his starter and pre-achilles tear years in the NBA), Kobe averaged 27, 6 and 5, 5 rings, 2 FMVPs, 11 first teams, 9 defensive first teams all while being must see TV every single night and respecting the fans by trying to play every game he could. That is one of the greatest 15 year stretches in basketball history and that is why he gets so much love and respect.

Kobe’s run from 08-10 cemented his legacy for all the doubters that said he couldn’t win without Shaq or was “carried” by him, Kobe went to 3 straight finals without a top 75 player ever and beat 50+ win teams in 11 out of 12 rounds in the playoffs and is the only player in nba history to score 600+ pts in 3 consecutive playoff runs won back to back rings and fmvps, and his 2010 run is the only time in nba history where a 1st seed team beat 4 50 win teams in one championship run he is undeniably one of the greatest to ever do it 11x all nba first team and 9x all defensive first team Kobe and Mj are the only players in nba history to lead the league in scoring while also making 1st team defensive in the same season more than once

His biggest weakness was himself. He was so obsessed, he never rested. Someone needed to force him to let his body recover. I'm guilty of hating Kobe during the "ballhog" years. Kobe has one of the most interesting career stories ever. I literally hated his guts until he got hurt a couple years a row at the end of his career and you could see that it hurt him emotionally. That's when I think a lot of people realized, "Hey, he's actually a real person and he's finally being real." And a lot of people grew to appreciate him more because of what happened at the end of his career. He didn't deserve to go out that way in his NBA career. Looking particularly at Kobe's early career in the NBA, I am surprised more NBA teams don't give rookies more time to develop.

@@shakenblake4533 And not every kid is Kobe. Kobe was drafted at 17 years old just out of HS. That and the fact that Dell Harris did not trust a teen so much is why he did not have an immediate impact. But he still was an all star and gained MJ comparisons even at 19 in his second season.

@@nikosofidemporas Kobe wasn't ready to start as a rookie. He was still undercooked physically, and he had no idea how to play in a system (Kobe WAS the system at Lower Merion) He had to develop his body and game before he was ready to start. As he put the work in, his minutes increased. He honestly should have won Most Improved player AND 6th man of the year his 2nd season.
