We deeply apologize for forgetting to mention Mienshao’s Sword and Shield VGC placements It was still quite a niche pick but it had a few notable placements with the highest placement being Daniel Quek at both the players cup 3 qualifier and getting 9th at the players cup 3 finals! Let me tell you a story. I didn't play the 5th generation, in fact at that time I wasn't that interested in Pokémon and it wasn't until almost the 7th generation that I came back. I had heard that the fifth generation was horrible and the worst of all, while everyone was praising ORAS, so I decided to watch a playthrough of that game to see, not only how Pokemon had changed since I left it in the fourth generation, but also to prepare for S/M. At one point in the playthrough the person who was playing got into an in game double battle (in the meteor falls if I remember correctly) and one of the trainers had a Mienshao. It was the first time I saw that pokemon and it seemed absolutely horrible, the ugliest thing that "The Pokemon Company" had ever released, that only reinformed my thinking that the fifth generation was not only the worst but also It had the worst designs of the entire saga (a belief that I absolutely no longer maintain, I think that Gen5 is the best of all the saga, with some of the best designs of all and some animated 2D sprits that infer life and personality like no other on the main line games). After that I got more involved in the Pokemon community where there were people who spoke highly of the black and white games, so I decided to play them and form my own opinion. I have always liked to know what pokemon I am going to use before starting a new run, so I spent some time looking at Unoba's pokedex. I did know that I wanted to use a fighting type pokemon but I had a problem, Throh and Sawk where horrible, Cobalion, Terrakion and Viriceon are legendary and therefore it is difficult to access them and I don't remember what problem I had with Skrafty (I think because it is somewhat slow), therefore I only had two options left, Conceldur and Mienshao. I ended up choosing Conceldur, Timbur seems cute and it apears early in the game, however, it has a huge problem, he is slow, lik very slow, and I don't like slow pokemon, so it ended up being left behind on the team, when I sent it to the field it always got KOed without being able to do anything and I was also never going to be able to evolve it, so I made the decision to replace it with the last fighting type on the list, Mienshao. I thought Mienfoo was kind of adorable and I tolerated it, but I didn't want it to evolve into Mienshao because it seemed like the ugliest pokemon of all, in the end it ended up evolving and well... It was like unlocking the easy mode, Mienshao was fast and strong, in addition to staying alive thanks to the drain punch buff and little by little I grew fan of it, so much so i dont think is ugly anymore, in fact now i think is a super cool mon. I still remember its moveset, Uturn, Bounce, High Jump Kick and Drain punch, it didn't need anything else, not even teammates. To this day Mienshao is one of my favorite pokemon of all time( so much so that i have it tattooed along side Volcarona and Milotic) and it would undoubtedly be on my team if i were in the pokemon world, and it is, along with Breloom, my favorite fighting type pokemon, I'm glad it's so good in the competitive scene. If you have made it this far, thank you for reading my little story, you are awesome and wish you a wonderful day.
