Nice video! Raul was my hero growing up and I still follow him in his coaching endeavours at Castilla! He is simply the best, and for me he is the greatest Spanish player of all time!

Imagine me some small kid in a tiny mountain town in PL with no real football team in the area, watching Raul playing for RM was how i got interested in football, igetting goosebumps as a kid, cant believe it was that long ago!

I mean pre Galactico's where he really sacrificed his game to incorporate other stars, he was an absolute superstar. In the mid to late 90's if you asked 100 people who was the best player in the world, some of them would say Raul he was that good. He led Madrid to their first Champions League in 32 years before Figo, Ronaldo and Zidane even got there. He was Real Madrid's all time top scorer and the highest scorer in Champions League history before Cristiano Ronaldo boke both those records. For me he's maybe the second greatest Real Madrid player ever after Ronaldo.

in the '90 and early 2000 spanish players were good, but not great. Raul was the only spanish player to breack the top. he put Spain national team in WC and EC, and won 3 UCL with RM. even Guardiola afther coaching Xavi and Iniesta said that Raul is the greatest spanish player of all time

It wasn't just that Raúl already had the no.7 for Madrid. Similarly to CR7 shirts selling instantly for Manchester United because the name RONALDO was already huge in football due to Ronaldo Nazário... Madrid's initial desire was for CR7 to play as a striker, and R9 had already worn no.9 for Los Blancos. There was only a year or two between R9 leaving Madrid and CR7 getting his old squad number

As i have said many times , we will never see strikers with that much IQ ever again . after 2010 the world never produced any striker to that level .

His downfall with the national team was not the penalty miss. It was because he argued tactics with Luis Aragones, in frront of the whole team. He made an enemy out of Aragones that day. Aragones dropped him from the squad that won the Euros. And the subsequent Spanish coach (Del Bosque) didn't want to disrupt the team's chemistry by recalling him, thus effectively ending his international career.
