I was born and raised in Marseille. My cousin grew up in Zidane's neighborhood. Despite never playing for Olympique de Marseille, he's surely one the most beloved players in Marseille. We all regret that he couldn't play even one season but that's life. Cantona, who was also born and raised in Marseille, played for Marseille in the 90's but he's on the top list of favorite players by fans. He's on my list nonetheless. Zidane is an example for everyone. We know that since he made it, we all can. Maybe not in football but in life in general. Zidane was a true foorball player, a legend, not a clown or a showman like many we see nowdays. His football skills were unique, and yet he was modest. There is nothing more important in life than loving your parents, especially your Mum, and he loved his parents. There has been, till today, a lot of racism in the football world. @@carttom2 What was « suspicious » about his 2 goals in the WC final?
@carttom2Ай бұрын
@@OlivierGaffuri-wc2dl As I said, Zidane was the designated corner kicker for France. He kicked almost all of them before the final and after the final... but not in the final? And it ends up on his head with nobody marking him on the first goal and only Roberto Carlos the 2nd time (who is 20 cm shorter than Zidane). All the while while all the merchandising, notably this giant portrait of him on the Arc de Triomphe in Paris, were labelled Zidane and not French team? What would have happened to al this marketing if Zidane had performed badly in the final (like he did numerous times for Juve during CL finals)? This final was fixed.

In Sweden we have this iconic ex-footballer named Johnny Ekström, famous for his not too overly bright quotes. 1992 he played in Cannes with Zizou and told a footballer friend and ex teammate (Glenn Strömberg) over the phone "We have this 17 year old youngster here that everyone talks about. He do sole trix and stuff. His name is Zidane and I doubt he will be anything" lol.

Zidane gives his part of his hair to shine, because we started to know him as legend when he started loosing that part from his hair. The wisdom and the magic are Zidane

As a lifelong Manchester United supporter, Fergie definitely made a mistake by not signing Zidane, not once, but TWICE. First in the summer of 1996, while Cantona was still playing and about to embark on his last season in football, which he himself didn't knew at the time, years later he lamented in the press, that he could have been teammate with Zizou at United (proving the fear Fergie had of of upsetting Cantona was unfounded), and that United scouts went to see Zidane play at Bordeaux, but for some reason, he had an off day on those occasions, in the season where Bordeaux had that amazing run in the UEFA Cup (1995/96) and where he was turning a free agent in the summer. And secondly, in the summer of 1998 (Zidane admitted in the press that Juventus and Manchester United almost came to an agreement), but the transfer finally fell through. But ZZ still remains one of the ultimate examples in sports, of how to make beauty and efficiency co-exist.

Saw Zidane against Leverkeusen and was in line with his strike to score THAT goal. A great game that the Germans would have won if it had gone another 15 minutes. The player of the game was Zidane. His body control was a marvel he could read the challenge coming and used the impact to position himself with the ball in the perfect passing direction. If two players tried to press him he would use the energy of the first impact to bounce himself into the other. He would thus remain erect and poised to move on having expended minimal effort and with two opponents in his wake. A marvel to watch.
