Vince Carter was one of the best wing players of the 2000s, and arguably the most popular player in the world at one point too. How good was he actually though? We all know he was a great dunker, but as an all-around basketball player...how do you view him?
I make all kinds of NBA videos which include trivia, analysis, player stories, countdowns, conspiracies, and mysteries. Make sure to leave a like and subscribe if you enjoyed this video!

In my opinion Vince's years with the nets are oftentimes overlooked by fans discussing his overall career. He still had bounce, he still had a few seasons where he averaged about 21-25 points. Though I do think he should have gone to the magic a year before he actually did so he would have at least one final appearance, especially against a prime kobe. That last to second last season with the nets was also Vc's last prime years imo.

TheProdigy yup ur right. Carter was still sick on the nets. This video is so right. Once Carter left us we booed him for years. But deep down we loved him so much. That one game where he beat us hitting that game winner for the nets and Jason Kidd jumped on him was so sick. Obviously I was sad we lost. But in a way happy for Carter silencing us lol.

Shawn Kemp props for rating Carter. Most people don't realize how good Vince was in his prime. I'm glad he played for us but it may not have been the best for his career. But being our first superstar I don't think anyone would have loved him as much as us. But they did a documentary on the whole drama between him and us and he said he didn't really want to leave but that there was some foolishness happening with management and that's why he acted like that. I wish Carter would return to the raptors before he retires.

michael jordan I don't like VC because he is soft and act like a bitch, but I'm not sure he is bad enough to be excluded out of top 100players. AI was at his prime, VC probably can't beat him, but he still took the chance to attend his graduation on game day, due to his mama's order.

His knee's were shot after 2001, that man was literally doing 360's night in and night out in NBA games. his career actually became a cautionary tale for all future NBA players, since no one could or has ever dunked like vince did in game and how quickly all that aerial acrobatics and awkward landing destroyed his knees just 6 years into his career. coaches and analytics told players to stop dunking outright and to atleast always hold onto the rim to adjust your landing.

Really enjoyed the video. Nice job. Wanted to chime in on the Nets. The Nets were most definitely NOT considered Finals contenders when VC arrived. They had lost most of that 02/03 Nets squad including Kenyon Martin. Kidd was on his way out, but management got VC from TO and that kind of convinced Kidd to "give it a shot", but I don't remember anyone saying this Nets squad was the favorite. They were a "dark horse" contender at best. In my opinion, Nets VC was the Prime VC. He still had crazy dunks and shots, but he was a smarter player in Jersey. He developed into a leader. His attitude was great, and he gave it his all even when Kidd left town in 08. That was 2005, 2006, and 2007 were the best years of his career that most people seem to gloss over. Its a shame he didn't get All-NBA nods for those years.

Vince had all the skills and talent in the world. His athleticism, a midrange game, shoot the 3, create his own shot, good passer and played decent defence when he wanted to. No doubt, he could have been great but his problem was his mindset. He didn't have the killer instinct of an MJ or Kobe. When his team needed him the most, often times he disappeared and didn't step up. That shot in the playoffs....was the beginning of his downfall. Had it gone in, its a completely different story and Vince would have been more relevant longer.

I’m very surprised that you didn’t talk about his knee injuries. I think that played a huge role in the second half of his career.

You do a great job Andy. I'm sure you know about this hack, but I recently watched "How Good was Gary Paton?" from NBA GOT GAME TV, and it was just someone else's documentary about his life with a watermark slapped on top of it and like a short paragraph's worth of narration. It didn't get to the topic of the video until like two thirds of the way in and even then said jack about how good he was. I took your excellent work & analysis for granted before that!

VC fans know this too; i think that knee injury in 2002 really fucked him up. Every since than, his quickness steadily declined. I think if that injury never occurred, hed be putting up big numbers even now.

After Kobe, Vince is my favorite of the generation.. Maybe most exciting player all time had the potential & raw talent to be better than he was.. I heard he lacked the work ethic in his prime, but he has worked hard now to prolong his career so idk
@KrazieSevin
@KrazieSevin 6 жыл бұрын
he did lack the work ethic to be as good as a Kobe, but he still worked hard enough to be a top 10 player in his prime, what Vince didn't work on as much in his prime is the cerebral part of the game like studying film and becoming smarter in reading defenses and making the right play, he also should have competed harder on the defensive end instead of saving all his energy for high flying offensive moves

Church Service I agree. It's because he doesn't have that overt otherworldly athleticism, but the dude is a crafty defender and can get buckets whenever he wants. AND he is a champion and arguably the best player on those BOS squads.

I think he's pretty properly rated. If you think he should be put up there with the Kobes and T-macs, he shouldnt. Everyone knows how good he was, but he wasn't a once in a generation type player, just one of the best players of his generation.

I personally saw one of his highlight dunks, with my own eyes, and in his rookie year. Everyone in Market Square Arena stood up and gasped, simultaneously. And I have to say, hearing about 25,000 people gasping at the same time, is something to hear. I still see that highlight every now and then.

Jroc PS3 as a player, of course Elgin was better than Rick. but Rick Barry was an ABA champion, an NBA champion, and a Finals MVP. Elgin never won a championship. Wilkins? Cmon even Havlicek was better than him. and Vince, he was a shooting guard but still not a better player than Rick Barry. Rick was playing in the NBA like only 10 seasons and selected to 5 NBA first team, compare to Wilkins 4 First Team and Vince 2 All NBA Team. He avg more than 33 pts twice and Vince never avg more than 27pts. talk about rebound and assist, Rick was better than Wilkins and Vince at both category, and he was better at assist than Elgin. Rick was a scoring champion and lead the league at steal once. dude was great since he was in the ABA and one of the best small forwards in the 70s along side with Dr. J. and no im not joking

I remember browsing google images as a kid with phoneline internet, looking at what Vince was doing as if it was yesterday Again a really good video Andy!! But I hate how you didn't mention some of the games where VC completely DESTROYED the Raptors as a Net, some of those games are so underappreciated considering the pressure and basically an entire country hating on you, 1 game in particular would be his clutch 3pt to tie the game and then catch an alleyoop and dunk it backwards for the gamewinner with 1 sec left on the clock! Or when Jkidd rebounded and threw him the ball for a clutch 3pt gamewinner leaving 0.1 sec on the clock, also against Toronto!! As a huge VC fan those were some huge moments, I can only imagine what VC must've felt like at that time. Just watch those 2 game endings if you haven't, it's a MUST if you consider yourself a bball fan! Also for anyone who wants to see more of oldschool VC, check out MaxaMillion711 channel! Been watching his videos since I was a kid. End of my essay, sorry, I really like VC, he was the player I aspired to be and made me wanna get better at basketball! Nostalgia kicking in ~

DeMar's time with the Raptors was really similar to Vince's. -Both spent the first 5-10 years of their careers with Toronto -Their career high in points in a game with the Raptors is just over 50 -Their highest scoring season was 27+ ppg -Both athletic -Both played shooting guard -Both started in their rookie season -Both had competed in the Slam Dunk Contest (though Vince won) -Both played with someone they're close with -Were never able to make it to the Finals -Both left the Raptors through trades -Won a gold medal at the Olympics -Had legendary dunks in the Olympics (but Vince made his)
