So very true, it's a fact. I'm a victim also. Playing for Vere Technical High 1970-74 , very talented n winning Dacosta Cup n Oliver Shield. After school I did not get a fair chance to pursue my career. Living in the ghetto n getting kids early n have to seek a job to take care of my sons. It was a real struggle . I would love if this generation of talented footballers use these mistakes that we made be a lesson to them.

I guess you never saw Allan "Skill" Cole in action, the first player ever to achieved a contract from the Caribbean to play in the Brazillian premier league, I saw a book about the Top Caribbean footballers and his name was at helm, but that epidemic reigns VERY INDISCIPLINE and PROBLEMATIC. There is also the late Arthur Latimore, I've seen this player got a standing ovation from all the audience and opposing players while leaving the field after an outstanding display, he was a gem to watch. The late Herbert "Dago" Gordon, a German coach who was involved with the great German Captain Franz 'the Kaiser' Beckenbauer as a youth player said on RjR sportscall " He saw Herbert Gordon (he asked about him because he was mesmerised by his skills) as a teenager playing in The US and Dago was better than Beckenbauer when 'the Kaiser' was a teenager.. But again indiscipline rules, lost focus culminating with over weight.

No damn statute for Blacka Pearl. He is a casualty of the small-mindedness of Jamaica's attitude toward football. In a nutshell most Jamaicans consider a kid with good dribbling skills a big time baller. We have had a bunch of those guys, Robert Bunny General Smith, Stylo Ebanks, Diegy Reds etc. We lack tactical awareness and most importantly our physical fitness is piss poor. A friend of mine was an assistant coach in Germany and he would allow his kids to work on any technical skills until they past the fitness benchmark. Kids had to run 2:10 or better for 800m, 55 sec or better 400m, 26 seconds or better 200m etc. I ask about it once and he told me a fit there a direct relationship between a players technical effectiveness and hit fitness level. No matter how skilled a player is when he is tired every aspect of his game becomes less effective.

Great video. Unfortunately everything comes down to money. If there was a realistic seeable pathway to first team football where players are paid a wage to play football with professional contracts you would automatically see a shift in behaviour. Players will adapt and behave themselves if there’s a notion of something greater to achieve from hard work and good conduct. How many Jamaican youngsters have or can afford agents? What is the professional pathway leading to the men’s game after youth involvement? It needs infrastructure and that means funding. Without that it’s doomed unless a player has the capability of flying abroad. It’s the same old thing every time.
