A big reason is multirole, a continuous spellbook of judgement that SETS your spells instead of searching them, and also the fact that none of their normal and quick-play spells are once per turn, making engage especially killer.

I first got into competitive yugioh in the Druler format. I didnt have much, just a bunch of common six sam cards from the starter deck and a few bits of old warrior support, namely, The A. Forces. I build an entire beatdown go 2nd deck and ended up winning my first locals, out pacing Harpies and Drulers because of how easily I could boost my attacks over their monsters and loop if I had gateway. It felt good, that my little timmy deck of dime a dozen commons was able to beat the top meta cuts. From there I went onto get grave keepers in pure commons, and even started to build Dragunity. But even to this day, Six Samurai is my go to deck as a rogue contender. Including oops all beatdown with The A. Forces.

I still hope that you will do one about dragon link in the future... To the Rulers: I think that Blaster and Tidal could go to 1 without a problem. Redox on the other hand should stay on the banlist, he's not only a free reborn for earth decks, but also can search the amorphages which could become a huge problem, especially with the trish fusion being in the game.

Dont underestimate the Foolish Burial effect on Tidal, there is a reason why Foolish is limited. But to be fair, Konami just needs to Limit all the Rulers, see if they're still too broken, and if needed ban them again.

You can tell me if it was a fluke, but I did watch MBT’s Bandless tournament, where he had Tempest at 3, and Blaster and Tidal at 1, and an Adventurer Dragon Link player tech them in. At one point the his field was empty and he only had 2 cards in hand, but because of the dragon rulers he rebuilt his whole field while annihilating his opponent’s. The deck ended up making it to semi-finals of that online tournament, but I think the dragon rulers are still very powerful if too many of them are legal at once.

The thing is it won't take much to break these cards. Just because a fire or water deck isn't top tier right now doesn't mean that they will never be. Tempest is just the worst of the dragon rulers and they deemed only one dragon ruler fine

Yes Rulers can come back in 2022 and fantastic history video as always Even at 1 or 3, it wouldn't facilitate any more link spammy or dragon centric decks that what are already meta and probably wouldn't be worth slotting into decklists but I could be wrong and it would be cool if I was tbh just for nostalgic purposes

They are easy to summon bodies that come back every turn, and they are level 7 which synergizes with ze amin or the rose dragon package and gives them access to rank 7s like Voloferniges(basically drident, and is also dark), or odd-eyes rebellion and odd-eyes rebellion overlord for otks or making a 4 material zeus. Wont help at creating longer boards but it will give them amazing recovery and follow up plays. Armed dragon thunder and dragon rulers also go well together but armed dragons are not good enough. Other decks can also utilize the dragon rulers based on the attribute, like mermail in the past used Tidal and with modern decks already being good, if they find a deck to be in, they will pop off.

Generally, people think of old broken cards in the context of the format in which they were popular. If the Rulers were to be unbanned and unlimited today, I strongly believe that they would utilize new cards and archetypes to perform even better than they did in their heyday.

I think them still being on the list just further builds on their legacy of such a feared deck. Would I like them unbanned at some point? Sure, but I don't they would bring to the table what made them such powerhouses in the first place.

It seems to me the real problem weren't really the Rulers, but Big Eye and Dracosac, those nasty rank 7 xyz, and it turns out the rulers were the best way to spam them. Take those xyz out of the equation and the Rulers aren't actually an oppressive deck at all.

I played Fire Kings during this format. Once Yaksha came out I had a field day vs this archetype. Mythic rulers and lightsworn rulers were a common matchup in college. Fire kings are just to slow, and fire kings were power crept as soon as big unbreakable boards become a thing.

The rulers are who I really have to thank for my sweet sweet Lightsworns during HAT, Shadoll, and Nekroz format. Even if Cowboy and JD did always deal the killing blow. Nothing could save them in PePe though. PePe might be a good deck for this format btw. Caused such a exodus from the game, at least in my playgroup and on DN.

Yes it is the only archetype in history which has all of it cards forbidden at some point ( even the babies). It technically is the most “hit” archetype in history. Since out of its 24 available Main Deck card (all babies and daddies at 3) 11 are not allowed to be played. So almost 50%

MBT did a masochist banlist cup (where he unbanned over half the cards) and a Dragon Link deck using all of the available Rulers (1 Tidal/Blaster 3 Tempest) had a pretty good showing there, getting to the semi-finals. A highlight was against a Wind-Up deck where even after getting DRNM + Raigeki and left with only two cards in hand, the DLink player was able to use the DRulers to rebuild his whole board and swing for game thanks to Borrelend Dragon. A "pure" ruler build without everything at 3 wouldn't do much But with them at 3 the potential seems to be there, lv 7 combines with hand traps and lv 1 tuners for chaos ruler/baronne/savage, belle is earth, ash is fire, they can easily play adventurer, and can search ravine etc It would take a lot of experimenting to build properly though

They SUCK in todays standards. I play with friends and we do unbanned lists often, i have an OG dragon ruler deck that cannot keep up with really any modern deck at all. Its insane how strong this deck was at the time, but even with full power old lists from 2013 or so... it just doesnt compete. However i think they could be decently strong when combined with dragon link or somthing, which i have been looking into but i just hate using dragon ruler as anything but pure.

@@bobstoner415 I think that’s mostly because it sounds like you’re building them similarly to decklists from their heyday. An optimal modern dragon ruler decklist would probably look almost nothing like one from their format 7 years ago. I’ve seen a few “how does this old broken deck hold up?” style vids and people just copy old tournament decklists without adding any newer, better cards or engines.

Every ruler can come back and it wont matter the powercreep is just too much. And even if they are broken, it won't matter since the game is already at a pace that the new tier 1 deck will always win. Bringing back older cards will only increase the chances of rogue. Let pot of greed come back to 3, graceful charity, it wont matter, the tier 1 deck will be as consistent as it already is and rogue will have profit of it.

@@MsMiDC ever heard about the word trap card. you're either trying to play a card that mills 2 out of 3 times in a combo deck so it sucks more ass than psy frame driver as it's not even a monster to do something with OR you're playing it in a trap deck that somehow wants to mill cards and even than if you get the draw 6 if those 6 cards are not hand traps it did literally nothing for you as you either stop the opponent with your other 4 cards in which case you're already winning or you lose on the spot getting otked. non interactive trap cards are dogshit in modern yugioh. even eldlich, the only good trap deck that wants traps in the grave, would rather play more floodgates to completely shut down the opponent compared to a high roll card that only helps next turn.
