It’s still so funny to me that Slifer had its name changed. For anyone that doesn’t know, it’s real name is “Sky Dragon of Osiris”. When they localised it in the TCG they decided to name it after Roger Slifer, the executive producer of 4Kids at the time (hence the “Slifer the executive producer” joke in YGO Abridged). He also co-created the DC comics character Lobo.

If your wondering, in Japanese the Blaze Accelerator cards are called Blaze Cannons and Blaze Cannon is called God Blaze Cannon, so they had to include that since it is technically a Blaze Accelerator.

Fun facts for anyone who played duel links - Ra's disciple was also used as cheese strategy in this format by using Neos Fusion to send it to the graveyard and Give and take to special summon it on your opponents field - Obelisk actually ended up seeing competitive play in Resonators of all decks with Crimson Resonator being able to turbo out 3 bodies without a normal summon. During this time period, untargetable 4k beatsticks were extremely hard for the meta to out.

I remembered when Salamangreat first came out, I made Salamangreat Obelisk Turbo Deck. Basically Cynet Mining discard Jaguar, add Gazelle and Trigger. Send Foxy. Then Link Summon Balelynx and use GY effect of Foxy and Jaguar, then Normal Obelisk. If you don't have Obelisk in your Hand, just do normal Salad play. It's not very good ofc. Just for the lul

I do think it's kind of frustrating that the Egyptian Gods don't have the same level of support as the Sacred Beasts. The fact that we don't have universal access to these cards really sucks for Obelisk and Slifer, both of which could really use a True Sun God equivalent to top off there support

The thing with God card support compared to the Sacred Beasts so that the Gods' support always respects them, and that's almost always to their detriment. Sacred Beasts support lets you toss them together into a deck that vomits them out like Summoner Monk targets to dump them for a Miracle Fusion. Rarely are they asked to be more than 4K bodies, and that works for them. The Gods demand to be the stars of their decks. They get individual decks, where you're expected to make use of their effects, and they're rather insistent you tribute for them or summon them (temporarily) with Monster Reborn. And while they do get some decent payoff cards and MR searching out of the deal, man is it a janky play style.

Well, that's an issue with the God cards themselves. Or more so, when they were released. In Duel Monsters, there weren't really any archetypes, and the people that used the God cards in the show, just tossed them into the deck. It's honestly like trying to make an Ash Blossom archetype when they try to make the God Cards into a thing. With the Sacred Beasts, GX had already established a focus on archetypes, so when they appeared, they had cards built for them, as the deck was Sacred Beasts. Not 'thematic cards + God card' Then to add to that, Yubel used them as well, giving them even more support. In short, God cards were made no different from then any other random, generic staple card. While the Sacred Beasts were made as a deck from the get go.

​@@SakuraAvalon I think at this point the gods should just have retrains from top to bottom. Even if it's just to give each of them the wall of text that is there anime effects. Closest one to it is ra but it's effects are spread across like 5 cards. I think especially giving them there "cannot be destroyed or negated. Effects your opponent control only work for a turn" protection effect would be very worth the effort of 3 sacs

Sadly, I think Konami's pretty happy to just every now and then throw some support their way when they want to sell a nostalgia product, but don't care to actually make them viable. As noted with how lazy the God Card Structure decks were, since they were just glorified imports of a Japanese collectors set. We didn't even get a Ra one, cause they need to have some incentive for people to buy the next reprint set of the Legendary Duelists packs.

For the Revived Sky God card, its pretty cool it has Silent Magician there since her effect similarly revolves around her attack points being dependent on the Number of cards in your hand.

The big issue with the God support decks are that half the cards are for getting a God of your choice onto your field and the other half is for when you have said God. Resulting in various mismashes of engines which are sometimes live but more often than dead in your hand. The Slime & Joker Knights can offer a quick chuckle before getting curb stomped by any tier 3 or above deck. A hand full of God -only cards are pretty useless without said God. It's just too top heavy of a strategy to be consistent.

The bigger fundamental issue is that half the God supports are rule of cool cards that replicated effects from the original manga/anime, but by now those "overpowered" effect are just mediocre at best. They just need better unique support cards that aren't too tied to being a nostalgia "CLAP I KNOW THAT REFERENCE" effect like the new slimes and Ancient Chant. But in general, from the start they're blatantly casual-orientated fun cards that let you replicate big moments from the original series, I think that's fine. The archetypes might not be super competitive, but they're playable and semi-consistent, its a far cry from pack fillers from the old days.

Little known fact about Blaze Cannon: due to weird OCG naming shenanigans, you can search the card out with Volcanic Rocket, because it has "Blaze Accelerator" in its name LOL

I think it's high-time that Konami makes archetypes for each individual God card. They can absolutely do it. Like, give Slifer, Obelisk, and Ra their own separate support cards in the form of a combination of Monsters, Spells, traps and Extra Deck monsters that work well for each God card. Similarly to how Dark Magician and Blue Eyes have their own support Monsters, Spells and traps, I'd like to see the same thing done to for example: Slifer. Now, the support cards don't need to make them broken, I'd just honestly like to see a playable Slifer, Obelisk, or Ra archetype in the same caliber as a Dark Magician deck.

I mean Ra & (technically) Slifer do have that already. They just...need a lot of work. Arcana Knights need some Slifer support searchers if they're gonna be the Rokkets to his Borreload, for one big example. They should get on Obelisk though, because he's got nothing. I guess because there's not really a theme of monsters closely tied to Obelisk to base support on (Kaiba just tributes whatever), but the XYZ Dragon Cannon series is close enough I think and they're not doing anything. So make them Obelisk's tribute fodder again is my idea.

Literally just make a Link-1 Monster that searches out a God on summon and can then immediately summon said God, can be treated as 3 Tributes for the summon of a Divine-Beast monster, and its effects cannot be negated. The restriction is that it can only be Special Summoned once per turn, during your turn. That's literally all you have to do.

Yeah, that is _all they need,_ to the point that I couldn't even tell you what the rest of each of their decks would even be. It's like a Crystal Beast spell that dumps 7 names & summons a Rainbow Dragon; what's the rest of the deck supposed to do after 1 card auto-pilots you directly into your win condition? Now perhaps that's not quite fair, the gods do have stuff for when they hit the field. Problem is that no one would use them when they could just toss this Link-1 into whatever's the meta deck of the format to get an easy Towers. That's what your card would make the Gods into; braindead easy to pilot tech cards that serve whatever the meta is. Can't say I'm a fan of that idea.

Because there’s no consistent way to dump Slifer to the grave to use the trap. The moment something like that comes out, the Revived Sky God would be fantastic. A draw 6 that can’t be negated is amazing

The dilemma is two main reasons: One, besides Obelisk, they have poor or no protection. Bring them out only to be targeted by a simple monster effect and taken out. So much for being “gods and divine” The second is lack of support outside Ra. Look at Sacred Beast support. Not only do they have a monster to search any of them easily but a field spell dedicated to them, which also protects them from destruction On top of the trap and magic cards they have Mound is what is mostly used in a god card deck but it doesn’t have enough effects, whether to search for the god cards or protecting itself from destruction. Imo the best and easiest way to fix them is not just more support like better search options but retraining them, giving them all the effect along the lines of: “Cannot be targeted and/or destroyed by card effects l, Except by another divine attribute monster”

IMO the main problem is Ra himself. The way he works, any kind of easy protection would give Ra decks easy OTKs going second or a guaranteed win turn 4 if the opponent can't non-target remove it.

Admittedly, Soul Crossing turns any divine beast into Sphere Mode on either turn if it isn't negated or destroyed when there aren't 3 mon on field and that's better than anything Sacred Beasts got. But... the rest of the Sacred Beast support is SUPER generic between all of them, which makes them so much more consistent, in a comparison to the Divine Beasts where Ra is the most consistent of the 3, while Obelisk is a kinda hilariously inconsistent, nigh unstoppable, board breaking OTK machine.

Ra's Disciple is good now because The True Sun God can search it and Ancient Chant, Soul Crossing, Thunderspeed Summon, or Soul Energy MAX can get you the additional Normal Summon required to summon your God card of choice. Mound is good because it gives you positive effects while on the field and your opponent is going to be hesitant to destroy it because they'll give you a free search. Sphere can be summoned to your side while tributing your opponent's monsters with Soul Crossing, so you don't have to wait for it to be passed back to you. Phoenix is great because you can use Sun God Unification to Tribute your own 7900 ATK Ra to gain your LP back AND proc the effect to summon Phoenix as well in the Battle Phase to attack again for 4000. The True Name sucks but was a required play back before the God cards started getting actual good support. At least it has cute interactions with Card Advance, but it's been powercrept out in favor of the other searchers I mentioned (Ancient Chant, Thunderspeed Summon, Soul Energy MAX). Dark Spell Regeneration is cute in theory and can be good in the mirror but the card only works if your opponent also plays Reborn AND has used it. At best it's a Side 1-of in Ra decks. Reactor Slime is like a better Ra's Disciple because you can use it as Tribute material and/or to search Reflect Slime to help turbo out Egyptian God Slime. Guardian Slime is a cool Gorz-like card that has good survivability, ensuring you get a chance to summon God Slime. Egyptian God Slime by itself is a serviceable boss monster and if you don't see your God card or can't get a search off, you can honestly win games with just this. Ancient Chant is maybe the most busted card out of this pack, it's a searcher, a Double Summon, AND gives Ra ATK without forcing you to pay LP, if you use three Disciples your Ra will be at 3300/1800 stats. Blaze Cannon is cute but it's at best a 1-of, you can win without it and it's really just a "win more" card. Millennium Revelation is like a Dark Spell Regeneration that's actually good. It's a way to dump Phoenix to the GY if you hard draw it, if you brick on Level 10s you can use this to get Ra in the GY and then summon it. Sun God Unification is nice for proccing Phoenix and keeping your LP at a healthy number and getting multiple attacks in the Battle Phase which is something you didn't mention which is not surprising since you aren't a pro Ra player like I am. Soul Crossing is such a W card. Any God card is basically a Sphere Mode except it goes to your side of the field, even Sphere Mode summoned by tributing 3 of your opponent's monsters with Soul Crossing can be summoned to your side of the field, removing how slow Sphere is on its own. Thunderforce Attack is okay, but it's a strictly worse The Revived Sky God, I still play it at 1 in most Slifer decks. It's a brick until you get Slifer on the field which is the main problem, whereas Revived Sky God helps you revive a Slifer you put in the GY. Ultimate Divine-Beast is a noob trap card, don't play it. It was passable as a 1-of until the mega tins gave us better cards. Fist of Fate is better, but again, it's dead until you have Obelisk on the field. Also a 1-of. Divine Evolution is so bad lmao, it's OKAY for Slifer since it gives Slifer a base ATK of 1000, fun fact but the effect doesn't even work properly on the Avatar or Eraser, their ATK values get reset by their own effects because of how they're worded, whereas Slifer's effect wording allows it to gain the 1000 ATK which is kinda nice. Thunderspeed Summon is crazy good for the Poker Knight Slifer Deck, immediately 3-of, it's in some ways better than Soul Crossing since it searches AND summons rather than just summoning. Soul Energy MAX is SOOO good but not for it's on field effects, that's irrelevant, it's broken because it's an easy Foolish Burial Goods target to search Obelisk. Opening Ra's Disciple + Burial Goods = a turn 1 Obelisk with just 2 cards. The Breaking Ruin God is one of the best cards here, you can pair this with Skill Drain in an Obelisk Deck to just keep the Obelisk around as a 4K beat stick. Combine this with Mound so it cannot be targeted or destroyed. The True Sun God was the card Ra decks needed to fix it. It can search all of the support, including Guardian Slime, Ancient Chant, Ra's Disciple, Sphere Mode, and it Foolish Burials Phoenix, it's so good. This can also search you Revelation to dump a Ra from your hand to search Reborn. The Revived Sky God is such an absurdly broken. I either play 2 or play 3 + 3 Trap Trick. Horakhty is cool but hard to setup and resolve. Magical Trick Mirror is like a marginally better Dark Spell Regeneration for Obelisk and you can get to it with Trap Trick if you want to. Ra is borderline rogue tier imo, the other two aren't quite consistent enough to be a threat yet.

No one will care if you add a god card. They're still very slow. Phionex is still bad as you still need to search for the necessary cards and have immortal Phoenix in grave where it can be called by. Soul crossing and the slifer and obelisk spell cards are still very bad. They need the gods in hand and on the field in order to wwork.If you dont then they're dead cards in hand

Yeah lots of decks would be great if Konami just errata'd their worst cards to be tier 1 good. But that's never been Konami's style. Why would they even do that anyway, it's more beneficial to them to make new support cards instead of retroactively adding effects to cards you already own. (Could be more beneficial to the Gods too; more staying power is nice but it wouldn't help getting them out and that might be the bigger issue.)

@@GiftOfKnowledge-np9vg they should be harder to get out if they are busted though also i dont think having 3 tributes for an egyptian god is hard at all since many archetypes can easly get you 3 bodies on the field without normal summoning So i rather hard draw em and tribute for em then i would have an actual boss monster than getting them out and they get blown away by basically any card my opponent have with any sort of removal

Obelisk, ruin god and Soul Energy combined with Ishizu support provide some crazy combos. Easy to summon Obelisk and OTK your opponent.

My theory on why no one plays Egyptian God support is also because nobody plays the Egyptian God Cards in general. I honestly believe the God Cards and God Card support are tailor-made more for a completely different market from that of the competitive scene. Specifically the more old school throwback sort of crowd.

Dzeef's video on the Egyptian Gods is what really gave me a slap in the wrist and made me start thinking about cards critically and truthfully. I'll still love Egyptian Gods as a casual deck, but have accepted that they're probably not ever gonna be competitive aside from a couple of cards. Also, God Slime is still a $50 card which is a crime.

Note that Sun God Unification doesn't require the Winged Dragon of Ra to have been special summoned for the tribute effect, so it's helpful to save yourself if you're opponent is about to cheese you with burn damage if yo used either it's first effect or Ra's base effect to go down to 100 LP.

I actually use Mound Of The Bound Creator in my Dino deck, it provides insane support for UCT and even allows you to still inflict 1000 damage without having to use tyrannos effect, which is nice cuz if you’re attacking a monster than can only me destroyed by battle then you can’t do the 1000 burn, but with the field spell you still can

The True Name has a nice combo: Using with Top Share or A Feather of the Phoenix. Reactor Slime is suppose to trigger Obelisk effect, tribute two monsters and destroy all your enemies monsters. And you forgot the Metal Reflect Slime, which you can tribute to summon Egyptian God Slime. one more thing- in the video you showed about summoning using Ancient Chant, you forgot the 3000 attack and defense of the Slime, which can be added by banishing the spell from the graveyard.

1.Still holding out hope for the Wicked Gods to get some support 2. Never understood why the God cards didn't get the same caliber of support as the Sacred Beasts. Ra got a fair amount of it tbf, actually making the card function similar how it did in the anime, but Obelisk and Slifer are barely functional gimmick boss monsters.

Slifer has it the worst. It doesnt even have protection. You can kill it with trap hole or fissure. That card has needed a retrain since the day it was printed.

14:00 The only reason to consider using "Sun God Unification" is for it's second effect as some means of insurance. Setting it before you summon Ra, and then using it to save your life points if they try and remove ra from the field, or if they try to burn you.

Always had the idea of a quick play spell that inverses Ras point to point transfer, where instead of paying all but 100 of your life points your opponent loses all but 100 of theirs and Ra gains that as ATK/DEF

A normal summon that searches any light tuner meanings you can grab one of the stone to get a blue eyes monster at the end phase or grab a effect Vieler to stop a play. Alternative which is a free body that pops a monster. Finally Spirit Dragon which was build to counter the entire meta and tbh it’s still somewhat of a good card today

Confused why Konami made support to get the Sacred Beasts out really easily and generic cards that can be used across all three… but the Egyptian gods have very specific support that doesn’t mesh super well if you want to play them together and still requires some extra setup to summon them…

The Sacred Beasts were always together and the Egyptian Gods were nearly always opposed. The Egyptian Gods are each more individually iconic than any of the Sacred Beasts.

The support for the Gods tends to respect them far more than what the Sacred Beasts get, and sadly that's usually to the Gods' detriment. Sacred Beast support will dump them for Miracle Fusions or vomit them out like Summoner Monk targets and ask little more from them than to be spammable 4K bodies, and that works for them. The Gods must be the stars of their decks, their effects are incorporated into strategies and playstyles, and you're either tribute summoning them or using Monster Reborn in some way or another. And the result is...pretty darn janky. (They do get some Monster Reborn searchers out of it though, so there's that.)

It's funny how it's the opposite from Red and Blue Eyes, with Blue Eyes literally being worshipped in its support and treated with reverence like the gods, and the deck is "good", while Red-Eyes just gets a bunch of random shit and doesn't care about the monster at all like SBs and it's awful.

Designed a card along the lines of Ra's Disciple in an attempt to be solid support, particularly for Slifer. Slifer's Acolyte Level 3 1700 ATK 200 DEF FIRE/Dragon/Effect If this card is summoned, you can send up to 2 "Slifer's Acolyte" from your hand and/or deck to the GY. When you tribute summon a Divine-Beast monster, you can banish this card from the GY as one of the tributes (this is treated as being tributed). If this card is tributed for the tribute summon of a Divine-Beast monster, draw 1 card. Since its draw is written as a continuous effect, it can go off when you tribute summon a Divine-Beast since there's no activation. And this helps you recover card advantage for getting a God out in the first place.

I think the issue is that the Gods are too iconic for their own good to get busted support which aren't anime references. The Sacred Beasts don't fall under such obligations and their support can read like custom cards.

All they had to do was reerrta the cards once again so that All God Cards cannot be Targeted or Destroyed by your opponent's card effects, and if they're special summoned, they're returned to the Graveyard at the End Phase of the turn. That's it. That's fucking all. But Nooooooooooooooooooo. Konami had to be greedy and instead of fixing the problem, they wanted to print more cards for more money.

With Blaze Cannon, you can avoid opponents reacting to it, by activating it as the last card on a chain started by your Ra's attack. That way, Blaze Cannon is resolved first, making Ra invincible first. Attack with Ra first, wait for the opponent to react with their counter, then react with Blaze Cannon.

Could you do something competitively viable with Holactie + Runick? The True Name is Pot of Greed. (Let me cook) Runick loves cycling through cards. Runick struggles a bit with wide boards. Gods struggle with card draw/searches. Neither deck is good at setting up tribute fodder (can be gotten around) Slifer on its own is good board control. Thunderforce Attack takes care of both problems by wiping the board and drawing cards. The Revived Sky God draws cards and soft searches Monster Reborn hitting Slifer or Obelisk. If you don't have the God in GY then it sets up The True Name. Milennium Revelation is nice for the special and another Reborn search, not sure though Reactor Slime unfortunately locks us out of Holactie. Ra's Disciple is great. Mound of the Bound Creator can search Holactie or any God if popped, otherwise makes the God quick plays better since opponent can't chain anything relevant anymore. The Phoenix Ra package isn't playable with the goal of summoning Holactie. Soul Crossing is 1 free summon if Opponent has monsters. Here's the juice though: The True Name is Pot of Greed (copium) b/c we go so deep in the deck that it becomes very easy to call the card right. It also searches any god or Holactie. maybe I didn't cook anything, but I swear there's something here.

Actually, breaking ruin god is pretty good bc it can protect obelisk from Omni negates, so Dragoon and Barrone or skill drain wouldn’t affect Obelisk whatsoever.

Because it's a quickplay I think Blaze Cannon is fine to use more reactionarily like Forbidden Dress/Lance, Infestation Pandemic, Crusadia Power, etc. Hold the card in your hand and only chain it to your opponent activating something to kill Ra. Of course you risk losing the second effect if they wait out until Ra declares an attack but that requires niiche match-up knowledge from the opponent and it's still more valuable to hold the card to protect Ra regardless of losing out on the extra damage I feel. Of course like the example cards it loses to the opponent having multiple quick removal options but hey a lot of decks still would love to have a searchable protection card like this.

Just give the egyptian gods retrains already! Make it so that you SPECIAL summon them by tributing 3 monsters (like D Hero Plasma) and give them revamped, better effects than their TCG originals! Also, make it so that Slifer can blow up monsters with 2000< even if not in attack position upon summon. Going into defense mode is an easy way to play around his unique disruption effect.

Ok i have personally witnessed pure egypt god decks wipe out series of meta decks baxk to back in person and online. It might be rare, but is by no means an illegitimate strategy. And trying to run all 3 god supports and,all,3 gods is not the right way to use,them,anyway because its too inconsistent. -1
