Thank you so much Jeff! Glad to share my note to dear guys who are working hard on the preparation. you're welcome~ Types of Questions 1) Restate the questions 2) Clarifying questions and follow up questions. 3) Look at it from all angles such as historical, technical vs business Interval vs external, scope/scale, resources. Plan or invent a complex procedure system or mechanism by careful thought. 4) High-level overview. Think 15s and give that overview and then confirm the comprehension of the question. 5) More questions. Asking clarifying questions throughout but when you get to the end Your answer. Hey, Can I drill deeper on this item or that item or anything more generically You want me to cover? STARLF = situation - task - action - result - learning/ feedback ? - follow up questions. Continual learners. 5:27 - Google's 4 Focus Areas • GCA= general cognitive ability ○ Approach to solving complex problems § thought process § How do use data ○ the actual question itself might be simple but what google is looking for you to Drill down into the layer of complexity within that simplistic question to GCA Tips: 1. Slow down: take your time let your brain process and then ask questions clarifying thoughts. 2. Have a plan 3. Talk out loud, don’t hold it in say it out to ask questions. 4. Info backed with solid data. ※People who failed: sb didn’t ask hard questions so the reality is that they didn’t see a simplistic question as complex and really drill into it. • Leadership ○ google highlight leadership in 3 critical items 1. communication □ how do share the details □ how to communicate with others in your behavioral and open-ended questions. □ how do you communicate with them during the interview. Just like attending a meeting. 2. decision-making skills □ talk out loud, demonstrate thought process when you make decisions. 3. hands-on leadership □ Why do you do it and what you learned. • RRK which is short for [Role related knowledge] 1. strengths + experience / drive impact / contribution[kang-tri-bution] for today in the future / contribution for today and future. 2. strong framework and plan. 3. interviewing you for the long term. • Googleyness § how you work as an individual / in a team setting § How you help others. § How you navigate ambiguity - embrace the unknown § How you learn & grow § EQ + Good Energy (give off good energy which is gonna be really impactful ) 12:53 - Generic Google Recommendations for Success #1 - Be prepared to talk through your solutions in depth. #2 - Push your won boundaries and find the best answer. #3 - Clarifying questions - feel free to make sure you fully understand the questions. If you're not asking a ton of questions you're not having a successful G's interview. Your good questions will pique their interest enough to say "yes". Deeper dive into the words that being asked in the question eg: How do you measure success? #4 - Interview your interviewer - ask about the work, the team, the culture. Have a list of great questions before you go into the interview. Have them written down and prepare different questions for different interviewers (recruiter, hiring manager, team member, collaborative partner ) 16:01 - Google's Preparation Suggestions #1 - PREDICT THE FUTURE. Use the Job description. #2 - PLAN Eg: tell me about yourself. tell me about a conflict you had is a behavioral question. #3 - HAVE A BACKUP PLAN USE POSITIVE WORDS #4 - EXPLAIN - just ask a ton of questions; think loud out. Make assumptions, check assumptions and then ultimately(finally) explain the why. #5 - BE DATA-DRIVEN: All you need to know is Google is a data-driven company. So back up what you're saying with data. Don’t say by implementing a new #6 - CLARIFY !!! Clarification will get you everywhere in a Google interview. #7 - IMPROVE: focus on [state of mind] #8 - PRACTICE: practice every day for a month or for a week, film yourself and practice

Jeff, thanks a bunch :) You used a very structured approach with high-level to drill-down in a very systematic way. Loved it! I do want to ask if you think for a behavioral questions like Leadership, we can use our stories and accomplishments from a different sphere like Sports competition, and how we were able to take on the challenge, demonstrate it through leading by example and accomplish results (The Championship)?
@jeffhsipepi

Usman, I prefer work examples, not personal examples. This is not going to be everyone's preference, but I strongly encourage candidates to keep their examples work related. I hire you because of your on the job skills and if you use a personal example to answer a leadership question, it may make me question whether you can lead in the workplace. I feel pretty strongly about this and you will get differing opinions. You can always ask your interviewer if you can use a personal example, but I still don't prefer even this path. I hope this helps!

Hi Jeff. Thank you a million times for your videos. Your advises are always to the point and not abstract as in most interview preparation videos. What would you recommend to do in a situation when you just stuck with the question and simply don’t know how to answer? There is no experience you can relate to or it is simply out of your knowledge. Thanks in advance!
@jeffhsipepi
@jeffhsipepi 4 жыл бұрын
Evgenya, this is a great question and I am sure this has happened to most of us at least once in our lives! Start by restating the question and trying to break it down into smaller pieces. Make sure you have a pen and paper with you because writing it down can also be extremely helpful in getting your brain going. Next you want to ask your interviewer for time to brainstorm. It is okay to take a minute or more to think about your answer. Ask a lot of follow up questions to see if your interviewer will give you anymore insight into what they are looking for, and demonstrate thought process by thinking out loud. If it is a behavioral question, you might present an example that is close, but doesn't actually answer their question (framing another example). If it is open-ended and you are just completely stuck, it is okay to ask them to help you get headed in the right direction, literally ask them for a hint. I know I have not mentioned this in any of my other videos, but if you ever are 100% stuck, ask for help. It is way better than saying I don't know. I hope this helps, this may be a video! Thanks!

Jeff - a question regarding the STAR method - follow up questions - could you provide an example ?
@jeffhsipepi
@jeffhsipepi 3 жыл бұрын
Bartek, great question! Two specific times we should use follow up questions. First is when we notice that our interviewer is really interested in something, meaning they give you strong acknowledgement with their body language that they connected to that subject. We want to notice and address it at the end of our answer. For example, Sue, I noticed when you got really excited when I mentioned what we did with Python, can I get more into the solution for you? Second is we have a complex answer and we know we cannot get into the details of a critical part or parts of our answer, at the end we will want to come back to those items. For example, Sue, I wasn't able to get into the details of how I worked with the Architect on the solution or tell you more about our presentation to the leadership team, would you like to learn more about either item? In all scenarios, specific questions, not, can I tell you more. Good luck, I hope this helps!

Dhanush, this is the moment where you want to really trust the information coming from the source. Whatever the Recruiter shared with you, those items will all be critical for success and it sounds like scripting in this case will be important. Hi Jeff, thank you so much for your in-depth and sincere advice.Your tips gave tremendous help on passing my first official interview with Google! I've been invited for the second one, and going through most of your videos is definitely helpful in forming the basic roots of interview preps. I just have this quick question. As you said in your several videos, my dynamic behavioral examples can be matched to various 'themes' (especially the ones critical for the role). Have already given 2 examples answering the question in the first interview, will it be OK to use the same example again to answer other question I would get from future interviews? Or is it better to change the examples all the time? (Since I know all the answers are tracked throughout the whole process). Many thanks again for your valuable contents!!!!
@jeffhsipepi

Yehlyn, great question!! Yes, you can definitely use the same examples with other interviewers, just do not repeat the same example with the one interviewer. Yes, your answers are tracked, but a dynamic example should be used more than once because of the level complexity. Good luck! Thanks!

Hey Jeff, I wanted to see if I can get your opinion. I was blessed with the opportunity to move on to the on-site interview at Google for a non technical role. I just left the interview and I feel like it went fairly well as I only didn’t know maybe max 2 questions but was able to adapt per your other videos on open ended questions. My main frustration is that I was technically late for my interview because I was waiting at the wrong entrance and needed 10 mins or so to walk to the other building so my interview started late because of me. I’m so mad at myself as I know that was a bad first impression. Do you know how google looks at tardiness for an interview in general? Am I automatically ruled out? I believe I apologized in person but I was zoned in and focused on not discouraging myself - I’m afraid I didn’t make my apology clear. Do you think I should apologize in my follow up?
