How Government-Run Health Care Failed For Native Americans

American Indians and Alaska Natives are entitled to federally-funded health care under treaties negotiated between tribal nations and the U.S. government. The independent and bipartisan Commission on Civil Rights wrote in a 2018 report that the U.S. government has not adequately funded these programs. The report concluded the lack of funding has left many indigenous communities without the ability to provide quality care. Here’s how government-funded health services for Indigenous Americans works in the United States and how many activists and experts would like to see the system reformed.
UPDATE (July 1, 2021) In an emailed statement sent to CNBC after publication, the Indian Health Service said it had “received historic investments of more than 9 billion dollars” since the start of the pandemic “to address long-standing health inequities experienced by American Indians and Alaska Natives by ensuring a comprehensive public health response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.”

It competes with Mexico for slowest, it's a joke, packages that usually take a week to arrive can take up to 2 months to the US. It makes a broader point as to how much Americans are totally clueless about things outside their country, hence have no comparison points, resulting in very weird and distorted views on several issues.

I grew up in IHS. When I was 14 I tore my acl. It took 10 months to see an orthopedic surgeon for an initial consultation, and another 14 months to have surgery I spent 2 years on crutches, I missed out on so much, because money was more important

Lots of corruption in tribal systems which is why some indigenous/natives don't have access to running water (as referenced in the video). Any talk of integration or involving non-Natives to help solve problems gets shuts down immediately and branded as 'culturally insensitive' or 'genocidal.'

How much of this also comes down to the Native American system themselves? The want the governments money. But they want to create their own laws, and not follow fereral or state law.

But shouldn´t it be easy to give them at least close to the same funding as what the medicare program gets per person? I mean the medicare program is even able to save because of the huge amount of people it covers. The deals they get are just way better. The natives still get around 1/4 of the amount of funding per person though. Thats just inherently wrong. Or did I misunderstand parts of the video?

I don't know if they have the option to take normal insurance but I don't see the problem either of letting them have their own providers and giving them about the average per person as a normal american with medicate. Again per person! The video said they get 2800$ per year per native whilst medicate takes 10000$ per year per person. They'd probably be more than happy 9000$ as they seem to be able to make way more out of that money. But forming a contract promising them free healthcare and than spending around a quarter per person compared to the average doesn't seem fair or right.

The Indian Health Service is not an entitlement program, such as Medicare or Medicaid. The Indian Health Service is not an insurance program. Worked 4 yrs in IHS clinics as Healthcare provider. Horrendous experience. IHS clinics suffer from their own corruption. Staff and patients suffer due to evil management and greedy board members. Literally native patients are pushed aside in the schedule to make insurance money (government gives extra reimbursement to tribal clinics) from non native patients. As an employee you lose your rights, lose your job security and will be taken advantage of. There's no dignity, compassion nor fairness, just nepotism and back stabbing.

plenty of word of identities are just stupid and non-sense, including words like europeans, africans, asians, indians, americans.. and so on for example: -Europe is the name of an ancient Greek or Phoenician goddess, and today people are called "Europeans" which may mean worshippers of an unknown ancient goddess to them? -Africa was the name of a small region in modern North Africa, and today it's the name of a whole continent which most of it had no relation to that "Africa".. same thing for Asia which was more like the name of modern Anatolia or regions in modern Balkan or modern Europe, yet the word Asian today mean mainly people from China or Japan or Korea, despite not having any relation to that name in its real origins -India is just a name after a river, it wasn't a name of people with specific identity -America is just the name of an Italian person, so basically when you say "i'm American" in its real meaning it's "i'm related to some random Italian person that may existed in the 16th century" see how all those names are mostly non-sense or doesn't represent at all the reality? so basically you shouldn't give a lot of importance to people naming native "Americans" as "Indians"

Government management needs to be reformed, no corporate interest/ self interest should exist in the governing and management of public initiatives. Citizens fund the government and the government properly allocates these funds for the citizens. Currently at least 75% of government funds are channeled to private corporate pockets as wasteful spending.

Kashmiri are taking government officer jobs in Jammu region and trying to change demography by making anti Jammu or Hindu executive laws. Central Govenment along with Kashmir government had given affidavit in Supreme Court that because from seventy years Muslims are taking benefits of minority and it is a sensitive state so it does not want to change or disturb benefits to Muslims as minority. This minority status is powerful because India has signed UN Charter that gives right to all other countries to interfere in sovereign matters if minority rights are hampered. This is why they publish two three fake news in newspapers every week and go to UN to prove India is destroying minorities and actual minority is Jammu people that are suffering badly. Central government has also helped them because brother of Altaf Bukhari works in PMO. It is very necessary to make Jammu a state because Pakistan thinks it has converted Kashmir into Islamic state and they need Jammu as launchpad for North India. North India is cradle for Sanatan Dharm and if it gets converted our dharm will die. ☹
