this was shot in the Austrian Alps. Home Free was there to perform at a festival. They fell in love with the scenery and flew in their video team to do this. :) thank you for your reaction. Yes, when Tim sings Chance takes over the bass line and Adam Rupp is normally their beatboxer but sings tenor here. He rarely sings a solo part--his choice. He doesn't feel comfortable singing. Austin sings the highest.

Just a clarification on the “It Is Well” backstory - The slave story was actually the writer of “Amazing Grace.” The writer of “It Is Well” wrote his song after a shipwreck his wife and children were on, and the wife alone survived - all his children died. And that was after having already lost another son and his house to a fire.

As the story further goes, this was 1873 and Horatio G Spafford was on his way to get his wife and bring her back home after the tragedy and was aboard ship, and wrote the song after the captain told him at the spot the other ship had gone down and where his daughters had died.

They were in Austria for a festival and decided that it was so beautiful that they needed to film here. They actually got ahold of their film crew and had them come over. They have a From the Vault video about this song. Chance beard mustache is actually a bass but he sings baritone for the group unless Tim has a lead. Austin is actually the sky high tenor. Overalls (Rob) is the lead tenor lower (2 tenor). Adam Rupp has a voice range like Rob, but he doesn't sing solo very often. This is an absolutely beautiful song. Enjoyed watching your reactions to this song.

With those new headphones now, you need to listen to Misty Mountains with Tim Foust and Peter Hollens. They've actually released a video on the making of this video and of course they are not actually singing this live on the mountain. One that will probably blow your mind at Christmas is Do You Hear What I Hear. It was made with the original band member Chris Rupp and was an arrangement by Adam Rupp.

Wooohoooo. You guys have just touched the tip of the iceberg of HomeFree. Around 150 covers/originals another one coming out Friday. Beautiful harmonies in that one. The cover of One Man Band by Old Dominion This one is soooooooo beautiful!!!! All harmonies no beatboxing In this one This was done in the Swiss Alps when they were over there at a festival. Most of their crew was not there they saw this and said we have to record this song and called their crew. Everyone flew there to record this it was done with a drone(s) They had this one in their back pocket waiting for the perfect place to do a video. I do believe they found it . Loved your reaction You have them correct and Adam chance (aka chance) does take over the bass when Tim has the lead. Tim and Chance go back and forth in some songs on the bass and then (like in this one) they hit you with the double bass and just blow you away. Composed by Phillip Paul Bliss Lyrics by Horatio G. Yep, Chance does the bass when Tim is singing lead. Adam Rupp has a great tenor voice but he prefers to beat box. The really high tones you hear in the background when Austin is singing lead come from Adam. They have a "Behind the Scenes" about the making of this video & you can hear some of the singing. From what I've read, they end many of their concerts with this song - and they do it without mics. I'm supposed to see them in October so maybe I'll find out for myself. I've heard this one dozens of times & I always get goose bumps! The teaser was "My Church" - one of my favorites. Another really nice one, IMO, is "In the Blood". Love your videos & enjoy the analysis of the harmonies.

Austin is the high tenor, Rob (overalls) is the lead tenor, Tim is the deep bass, but can go up to tenor, Chance is the baritone, and does bass when Tim is singing the vocals, and Adam Rupp is the freak-of-nature beatboxer. Of course, you've already seen they don't always stick to those 'roles' and it's impressive to see Rob and Austin trade off and blend on the tenor parts, but Chance seamlessly takes over the backing bass when Tim takes over the vocals and it amazes me every single time. The teaser at the end is a cover of "My Church" by Maren Morris, and YES watch that one too. You guys are **almost** ready to watch "Mayday." Knowing their normal roles, it will BLOW YOUR MIND. Keep up the fantastic content! Love you guys!

It’s the harmonies that build to the end that always get me. And that can be appeciated by anyone. They have a behinds the scenes video about the making of the video and yes, they are pre-recorded. But you can hear them sing live on several KZbin videos. I’d love to have you react to “Blue Ain’t Your Color”. I know someone will also suggest “All About That Bass” BUT you need to do the outtakes with that one, also. A Two-fer. Thanks for this reaction. [You are confusing the stories of “Amazing Grace” which was written by a reformed slave trader and the story of “It Is Well With My Soul” which was written by a man who after losing everything, sent his family on ahead to England while he finished some business. Then he lost his children as the ship sank. He and his wife became missionaries]

Love your reactions and knowledge guys! You have to hear them do this live - you can see more who is singing what. Chance does a lot of the bass with Tim, and also covers it when Tim is singing tenor harmonies! Check out a concert version uploaded by Russell Wolff Productions 🙂

So glad you guys reacted to this gem! This song was my introduction to Home Free years ago, and I was instantly a fan. This is also one of their two songs that I call Sheer Vocal Perfection; the other one, which I strongly encourage you to check out, is their cover of the Crosby, Stills & Nash song "Helplessly Hoping." Great job as always!

I’m a PK so I grew up with these two hymns in my blood. I love them both so much. Thank you for this reaction! I loved hearing your memories of your grandparents! When my dad was invited to preach somewhere our family would always sing together too.

(aka) DJ Whisper ~ The story you told about the slave ship is told by this man in such a way that your goosebumps will have goosebumps!! His name is Wintley Phipps. He tells the story in a lead up to him singing Amazing Grace. Please take the time to react to that video. And trust me when I say, when you hear the water crashing against the ships hull....turn your headsets up to 100%. You will not be disappointed. I hope to see your reaction soon. Thanks :)

I have watched a few of your reactions now and have become a subscriber. I really enjoy your reactions and sharing of knowledge. I have been to two Home Free concerts, and soon a third, and can tell you they are honestly better in person. If you like Queen's music, I suggest you check out Marc Martell's cover of Bohemian Rhapsody. He was hand selected by Brian May to lead the Queen Extravaganza tribute band and provided some of the vocals for the movie. If you close your eye's it is nearly impossible to tell him apart from Freddie Mercury. Keep up the good work and look forward to more reaction videos.

The man that wrote "IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL" wife and children were on a ship going to ENGLAND. THERE WAS A SHIPWRECK and all of his cb ildren drowned. His wife survived. When she reached ENGLAND, she telegraphed her husband and said all is lost! He told her to wait there and he would join her. He, of course, went by ship also. When he reached the point where his children drowned, he penned "IT IS WELL WITH MY SOUL". HE WAS SO DEVOUT THAT HE WAS PRAISING GOD AND TELLING HIM THAT EVEN THOUGH HE HAD LOST SO MUCH, HIS FAITH WAS STILL INTACT!!! UNFORTUNATELY, THE REMAINDER OF HIS LIFE WAS ALSO TRAGIC!

"How great Thou art" - originally from a Swedish hymn by Carl Boberg set to the tune we know which is based on a Swedish traditional melody. The words were translated into German and Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian version by a missionary from England, Stuart K. Hine, his version we know so well dates from as recently as 1949... "It is well" - two stories mixed were up. The author Horatio Spafford was a businessman from Chicago who lost a lot in the great fire of 1871. He supported D L Moody and sent his family ahead by ship across the Atlantic to help with a mission in the UK, intending to follow later. The ship sunk after a collision at sea and all four daughters died but his wife survived, sending a telegram "Saved alone". (The slave trader turned hymn writer was John Newton of "Amazing grace" fame from an earlier generation in the UK). This recording by Home Free is one of my favourites. Thanks for taking the time to listen and share your reactions.

Awesome reaction! The a capella groups all have enough distinction in personality and tone that they are worth sticking with. Just like Tom MacDonald videos you shouldn't have issues with Home Free or Voiceplay! When Tom MacDonald & Home Free drop on the same day it's "HOG FRY DAY"

Thank you guys for doing this, as always. I know how hard y'all work on these. You are correct when you said that Chase takes over bass when Tim is singing other things ( lead, upper register, ect...). To see this in overt action please check out Home Free's cover of Mayday. You also get to hear all of the guys, with the exception of Chase, showing off their upper end. Beautifully done. As is this song. Liked, been subbed, and can't wait for more.

You were talking about them singing to their studio track and what it would sound like to be there live. They have behind the scenes videos making some of their songs and they all look serious but live one of them will be singing WAY off key to try to get the others to laugh. I have a feeling their video shoots are a lot of fun. Even their no music videos are entertaining like one where Tim, who is from Texas, visits Adam Rupps family in Minnesota and he is freezing the whole time. You should check those out personally if not on the channel.
