Gumball is different from other animated comedies. All other comedies try really hard to ground the situations in real life, denying the fact that it is a cartoon, gumball fully embraces that fact and makes being a cartoon an integral part of the overall plot.

I agree, this episode's humor (like the majority of episodes) is REALLY good. The ONLY problem I have is how they handled the "characters are stupid in this world" joke. It's like the writers forgot there's a difference between between stupid and being oblivious, since only Gumball knew it was their parents and Principal Brown.

The theme of death in this show is particularly interesting. So many characters "die" (or at least should have died) all the time but somehow they always end up coming back. At one point when I was like 13 I remember just coming to terms with the fact that no one will ever actually die which makes death humor really funny.

A thing that makes Gumball special is the fact it's humor isn't just modern. It goes out of it's way to reference alot of stuff, there was a Highlander reference in one episode, a whole episode dedicated to D&D, one to JRPGs( with references from all over the franchise of Final Fantasy) and in the Episode where Ms. Waterson tries to pay a bill she ends up in a reference to Thoroughly Modern Millie mixed with DDR. That's a weird selection of references to go with especially for a 2010's show.

kinda off-topic but I ABSOLUTELY LOVE how gumball as a character is not perfect in fact, he's incredibly flawed and that's what makes him incredibly relatable sometimes he's actually very unlikable and that's what makes him an amazing and well-written character he's a liar, he's kinda dumb, he's rude, he's self-centered, he's really egotistical and he's ignorant, but that's what makes him feel like a good character gumball is one of a few main characters in cartoons that i actually love and relate to it could make him unlikable in general if other characters didn't acknowledge it so we know it's intentional anyways, I love 'the bus' a lot, great video:D

TAWoG is amazing at what it does, there are very few episodes in this show that I dislike, and even the ones I can name I simply skip over because the show, once again, did a great job at executing them. The Cringe and The Hug are two examples of that. I skip over those episodes each time I can, but not because they're poorly made... it's because they're genuinely cringe. The show did such a good job at creating prefect second hand embarrassment and cringe that I physically cannot watch those episodes without cringing TAWoG is a wonderfully self aware show

My favorite part is at 15:03 when there's a liar's paradox. If the first pie chart is fake, and the second one is fake, it all works out because both are fake. I think 3 of the best TAWOG episodes would be The Words, The Game, and The Tape! The Words really helped develop Darwin's character more, as in season 1, he really was not that different from gumball in the fact that he was often oblovious to obvious things and that he typically just blindly followed gumball without putting in his own input (this is not be saying i disliked darwin in season 1 or that he wasnt his own character, i absolutely LOVED darwin, i just feel he was underdeveloped from where he is now). I love that The Words really helps cement Darwin's personality as wanting to please everyone and never have people dislike him by showing that he cannot even ask someone to stop something annoying out of fear of them getting upset. It is also INCREDIBLY relatable to people like me with high social anxiety, and the many jokes throughout the episode land every time i watch it even today. The Street Fighter-esque fight at the end where they could "pause and unpause" and just used insults at eachother as their attacks was INCREDIBLY CREATIVE! I feel that it is one of Gumballs most profilic episodes. The Game is an episode that I've come back to repeatedly because of how enjoyable it is. The family's reactions to their different dodge effects always make me smile, especially Nicole's when she doubts everything she says. All the dodges were very creative despite the episode really just being about the family playing a board game. They took such a simple concept and turned it into a colorful imaginative episode of "what if the game ACTUALLY punished us?", and I think it was done flawlessly. The Tape to me is probably gumballs most profilic episode. The animators really made the episode feel as though it was recorded by a couple children with a camera and no limits, and they cram packed so many jokes into each individual clip like each of Darwin's flubbed lines and the incredibly low production value of Ninja George II. It took ocho from being just a simple background character to being spotlit with his videogame in real life abilities. Everything about this episode to me is everything i love about Gumball as a whole. It's creative, it doesnt take itself seriously (as beautifully shown by the joke that no one would care about a show called "The Amazing World of Gumball), and it's just the kids of elmore being kids. All 3 of these episodes also really nail the wacky humor side of Gumball, which I absolutely agree with you that they completely mastered really early on.

But at the very last second Phoenix Wright comes strolling in to the court room and just causally sits down at the defense table. Takes a big red button from his brief case labeled: "The Status Quo" and pushes it. All the evidence disappears into thin air, even the reason for them being in the court room with all the papers being blank white. And the judge just declares them all not guilty as there's nothing to charge them for.
