Rutherford turns down promotions, while Mariner does crazy stuff to get bumped back down. Boimler is a great nerd, and Tendi is the Mistress of the Winter Constellations. Those four alone are enough to be a bridge crew of their own!

@@perfectsplit5515 Recent revelation has shown that Mariner does it because her idol, Ensign Sit Jaxa, died at that rank serving on the Enterprise-D. Because of this, Mariner feels that she will never deserve to be more than an ensign because the person she looked up to never made it past that rank. It's also why she's extra protective of everyone, and is heavily bothered by the fact that anyone of them could die not from the risk of exploring unknown space, but from combat with hostile nations.

I really hope when this series concludes, it concludes with them becoming the bridge crew. Boiler gets his Captains chair, Mariner his number one, Rutherford chief of engineering and Rendi as chief medical officer. Be such a cool way to end the series, from lowly ensigns to thier own ship.

@@HelloHuman1 for rutherford that's certainly the case, but not for Riker. This is a minor plothole, but Riker's decision to not leave the enterprise makes a significant difference. Second in command on the flagship of the fleet is a position where you'd be expected to serve a short tenure in order to GET the experience needed for command, particularly for any ambitious officers coming up through the ranks. At best, his refusal to leave caused a significant speedbump in the careers of the best and brighttest in star fleet, who'd wouldn't have the chance for a high profile posting, at worst it caused a necessary posting (replacing a dead or retiring captain on an in-service vessel) to be filled by someone without the requisite experience, or trained by a less competent captain than Picard. Because he was effectively just parked in a classroom doorway, blocking anyone else from seeing in.

@@OoileiI think it’s also due to circumstance. Rutherford looked to be super into her at first (around the time of Badgey). He appears to lose this after his implant gets ripped out (obviously because he forgets her). Tendi then seems to be into him (“don’t date Barnes”) but after the scare where Rutherford is almost taken over by his past self and there was a chance she’d lose him again, she seems content with being friends/enjoying the moments as they come. Which leads us to now where there’s hints of… something, but never something huge (excluding the recent episode where they pretended to be a couple).
