@@leonschumann2361 So you are right that motors lose efficiency with lower speed. In a AC induction motor, torque is the main loss which you need for a good cut in metal. However, overall efficiency for induction motors is about the same from 40 to 120% or rated speed with a small rise around 100%. This will vary from motor to motor and type of winding (brushed, brushless, induction) but it's very cool to find the sweet spot of your machine that gives you the most torque possible

What are the details for the spindle in this machine? Model number, number of bearings, the exact bearing lubrication system being used, etc. Is this an H200 spindle with an H200-S16 motor? I love the MRR, and the speed, but the really intriguing part for me is the machine itself, and it's associated total cost of ownership based on how it is used. I also love that machine cloud app calculating the torque curves and graphs. Please provide more information on that app. You guys really get me thinking about so many details. I don't know if I want to be a machinist, or a machine repair technician, or perhaps a spindle rebuilder. Y'all make me nuts man. Boom.

The one company I used to work for they didn’t care about whether or not the spindle could handle it. We were cutting aluminum and they would run 20,000 rpm 360 ipm with a 2inch facemill and the spindle would spike at 130% load and when the inserts would get dull it would get even higher. It was a roughing op so it would run for a good 15-20min because it was a big part that needed yo be roughed way down. There were so many chips we literally would fill almost 2 chip bins and these were good size chip bins too

Love the videos but you should rough out a big Block like that untill it breaks to see how long it'll last at something like 500 mrr. Cus thats better than some insert mills I use if it'll last through roughing a 2ftx2ftx3ft mold it's sold

That is an impressive machine and tooling. Barry's content at the end, is a valuable piece of information. In fact, it has more value for a Tormach than it does for the big machines. At the day job, most of my work is one off and small lots of dozen maybe. At home, I have my 1100M toy run around. I found early on with that light machine that knowing the MRR capabilities with availible hp was the first piece of the speeds and feeds puzzle for a light machine. Know what potential is and alter LOC,DOC, chip load. For the 1100M, as long as I stay within 80% availible hp, at the spindle. Seems to run about 85ish% efficiency in power transmission. I wrote a spreadsheet just for the sanity checks and it has yet to fail me. With some finesse, I've gotten 6ci/min in aluminum. Which according to the math, shouldn't be possible. So I'm obviously calculating conservatively.

I ran some go drills the other day and they shop owner was like that's way too fast for the speed and feeds numbers but the tool lasted and we did a lot of holes in series in 1018 feed was 25 IPM and speed was 3600 without thru spindle coolant

Unreal! Our little Tormach 1100 surprised me the other day with a little .1875" 3 flute LakeShore carbide running 70 IPM with a .200" DOC but only .020 radial, it decided it thought the hole from the next operation was already there during an adaptive clearing op and just DOVE into the 6061 I was milling and did a .500" diameter hole at full speed at .200" DOC! The endmill survived! The morale of the story is, they can eat more than you THINK! Haha!🍻 #cncnewbie

Hey titan, have you tried using compressed air from behind the camera towards the cut? I was thinking it may keep fluid and chips from getting close to the lens. May improve viewing clarity of cuts and protect the camera from chips scratching the lens over time. I don't know, just thinking out loud. What you think?

Hi Aaron. The high limit of S1 power is 99.2 HP from 4,000-8,000 RPM. The high limit of torque is 221 FT-LBS between 0 and 2,000 RPM.

@@barrysetzer Hi Barry The cutting conditions I calculated are as follows D=25.4mm N=8280rpm Vc=660.7146342 M/min Vf=12700 mm/min Fz=0.306763285 mm Ae=8.509mm Ap=76.2 mm Net cutting power = 96.0691627 kW Required torque = 131.2481493 Nm MRR=8234.49966 cm³/min The condition has exceeded the spindle s1 specification The cutting conditions are really great, and there are very few conditions that can be adjusted Although the torque condition is 299.63622 Nm 0-2000rpm, I don't know how much the torque drops at 8280rpm If the torque can still be adjusted upward, and the power of the spindle S6 has not reached the upper limit It may be possible to increase the cutting amount per edge to improve the removal rate Or use DLC-coated cutting tools to reduce friction to improve cutting efficiency Or replace the tool with a larger diameter and increase the Vc to more than 1000 M/min, which can also reduce the unit cutting force of the aluminum alloy, and the engagement angle will also decrease due to the large diameter tool The above are just theories, I really want to try if I have the chance thank you for sharing

I drove one of those old caddys years ago and aint nothing like the torque of a low rpm BIG block! I currently own a 85 chevy K30 with a GM HT502 big block crate engine with the tremec TR4050 5 speed, yea its terrible on gas but super fun to drive and tow with just because of all the Torque!

These vises are equipped with some special Schunk jaws that have 6 rows of teeth. They dig into the material (and they offer carbide tipped versions that even dig in to inconel) so that there is FAR more holding force than what our cutters put into the part

Are you using WD-40 trick to make the smoke?

We used it for lubrication before using coolant. Coolant tends to obscure what we are trying to show on camera.

I’m new to the leadership aspect, how do you handle a new guy who crashes a machine simply because he didn’t follow instructions after already running the same parts for weeks ? For now I told it’s okay we learn from our mistakes. But I feel like he is very careless

Why would you rough aluminum with a 5 flute?

Because its a 5 flute tool engineered for aluminum. Feed per tooth means MORE teeth MORE feed, more MRR, more MONEY

Does anyone have any idea what I could do as part of my thesis as a polymechanic? I have to construct a part myself and then machine it. The time required should be about 15-30 hours. I have a 5-axis machine and or some 3-axis machines available. The part should not be too big and preferably made of aluminum. Do you just have a good idea what I could do that is not too difficult but stil makes fun to do?

Thats impressive those machines can cut that much material off! Are yall going to run this same test on a giant block of steel? I run a 150 hp heavy roll lathe and according to my calculations I can dry cut with single point ceramic @ 116 cubic inches MRR per minute of STEEL all day. I can run it up to 230 cubic inches MRR for a short amount of time before the cutter is fried. specs are 1-1/4 round insert, DOC is 1.300 inch (surface area on the round insert), IPM is .006 up to max .012, spindle rpm 125 and max 135. sfm is 1244 normal and max 1343 on a 39 inch diameter roll. a 15 ton roll @ 135 rpm is somewhat intimidating to stand beside!! Its impressive what these 50 year old machines can do!! Ive made about a full tandem dump truck load of steel chips in a 12 hr shift!!

I get just a bit alarmed when Titan makes his "how hard can we push this?" videos. There's a nonzero chance that either the tool or the workpiece won't survive one of these massive cuts and if that happens...does anyone know how strong the door on this machine is?

It's alot stronger than you think. Did you see the video where we destroyed the vise? When the carrier jaw assembly came off, it smacked the door pretty hard, and Titan didn't even flinch.

0:35 - "people were like: You are gonna ruin the spindle-", i am no expert on machines of this size, but didn't you try to sell that machine after you wrecked the spindle in that vise video and couldn't get insurance to cover it because you videotaped what you did?
