Between trying to shake off the feeling that I'm wasting my life by binging 4 episodes of Love Is Blind Japan (hustle culture is NOT the one) and wanting to feel fulfilled and successful in my work and home lives, I think a lot about how much is the RIGHT amount of work. How long should we be spending working? And when am I crossing the line into unhealthy overworking?
So, in this video, I open up about how much I really work. I share how I think about hard work as a young lawyer, content creator and start-up founder, and my opinions on all things hustle culture, productivity, downtime and balance 😵
Super interested to hear what you think about all these questions, so please do hmu in the comments!

About Me
I'm a trainee lawyer, part-time KZbinr, son, brother, startup founder, boyfriend, black coffee drinker and plant dad. I graduated from Cambridge University (where I studied French and Spanish), topped my law school class and now work for a corporate law firm in London as a trainee solicitor (which takes up a lot of my time)!
Around that, I'm a big fan of discovering new ways of thinking, of balancing work with life, and of performing to the very best of my ability. Ohh, and being happy. And I try to share all that on this KZbin channel 😀
Fun fact: I believe we massively overplay the role of “natural talent” 😮 AND… I also believe that TOGETHER, WE ARE ALL CAPABLE OF POSITIVITY, PRODUCTIVITY AND SUCCESS.

I was surprised when you caught yourself out saying "successful youtube channel". Don't be so humble! What you've built here is amazing and provides us with excellent and useful content that is incredibly enriching. That to me is very much a success! Great video as always, Liam! :)

I have worked as a corporate lawyer for 10 years in Norway. In my experience, working hard is way easier if you find something you really like to do. I recently felt a little burned out. Something that really made working hard even harder. That daily drive was just gone. I found the solution to be a change of company and also to an extent change of area of expertise. Just to reignite the drive and passion for law. And it really worked. Being a lawyer is more of a lifestyle and less a ‘job’. So be honest with yourself and don’t be afraid to change scenery if needed :) Great YT channel and best of luck going forward :)

Well said! Hard work isn’t always a bad thing and I agree that it’s being seen as something that’s frowned upon recently, but in reality it’s just about balance!

Liam, you are absolutely amazing. I have been watching you since high school, 2 years before I graduated, and you have pushed me to strive to become the best version of myself possible. I never thought I would ever score high enough to get into a law degree at a very good university, but you motivated me and showed me that it was okay to fail at times (as I did sooo sooo many times) but to make sure to pick yourself back up and keep going. Your transparent and realistic advice is really helping us out here who have bad self-talk issues and imposters syndrome. Thank you Liam!!. P.S - I graduated with a great score and was able to get into my law degree at an amazing University. I even had my name personally mentioned in Parliament here in Australia for my achievements.

Oscar - this is AWESOME! Massive congratulations for taking the steps to actually implement some of the ideas that I’ve shared in my videos, as it’s easy to watch stuff and think: “hey, that could be helpful”, but it’s you (and you alone!) that’s translated that into tangible progress 😊 Proud of you, even if I’ve never met you 😝 … this comment (and the one from Ben also on this video) has made me a happy bunny this Monday morning!! 😁

Very insightful video and something I have been thinking about lately - great timing! An important point is also that the area in focus is not set in stone. Sometimes it is going to be work that needs an extra bit of extra focus, sometimes it is going to be family, etc. etc. A big part of it in my opinion is also the ability to really prioritise yourself (read: future self as well) over external factors.

First of all I want to thank you for the time that u spend making these useful videos for us And im totally agree with everything you said Cuz literally you can't achieve something big without hard waking İn this days alot of people just say u don't have to work hard Don't make your self tired But this is wrong in my opinion, And actually when i work it's kind effect on my mental health a little but when the good results of my work came thisss think makes mee soooo happy at the end But i don't work hard to take care of my mental health and then when i got the bad results cuz i didn't work hard her my mental health destroy

Ok, so I really love you content that you put out. It's very inspiring and makes my day better. I did wanna mention could you possibly talk a little slower in your videos. I feel like I don't have time to process what being said sometimes because it's so fast. I have a habit of talking really fast so no judgement. Thank you for another video!

Good luck in your competition law seat. I do a lot of competition law. I agree with you about success. I even married just before starting my TC, had a baby during it (with just about no maternity leave - my choice) and combined full time work and family life ever since just fine. You just need a positive attitude and good work ethic.

I might have an opportunity for a promotion coming up and it will be a lot more responsibility and way outside my comfort zone... I'm a working mom with 2 little kids so it's been really hard weighing out the pros/cons on how it will impact my work/life balance. One thing too is that when you love what you do it doesn't feel like work so it can be easy to do too much without realizing!

Go for it. I am a working mother and i can tell you that when children are teenagers or at university stage they are not interested in how many of their nappies you changed when they were little but whether instead you can buy them stuff and help pay for university!

Why on earth would ‘hard work’ mean long hours or a lack of balance? How are we defining ‘successful’? A lawyer could be less ambiguous?
