Olivia may have all the problems in the world, but she is right, NONE of the male Directors were EVER asked those questions, in fact we have abusers still being awarded. If Florence and Olivia don't get along that's fine, they did an amazing job, but c'mon, Sam Levinson ruined Euphoria and no one is asking him about Barbie Ferreira and their issues on set.
@JuPaschoal
@JuPaschoal 2 жыл бұрын
You're completely right about the double standard, but the situations are very different (which admittedly makes the whole Levinson thing much worse). The Don't worry darling stuff is drama, it's tea, and it's fun to speculate and talk about. It's like a fictional TV show for us. I would say that this is what the interest in it comes from. The stuff in Euphoria seems to run much deeper and there needs to be accountability. Who knows what Levinson wanted to make her do for her to just get up and leave the show, which she officially did. If there was any kind of foul play involved, she should denounce it and he should face the consequences, but I don't see it happening at least for a while because HBO would have certainly made her sign a very tight NDA.

It might be the affair but it could be a range of factors why cast dislikes Olivia Wilde It was a COVID shoot so the cast could not hang out after work. However if Wilde is hooking up with Harry Styles, it can cause problems with your employees. The whole "Do as I Say not as I Do". Apparently the Wilde-Styles affair kept her away from set on many occasions which would have pissed the cast/crew off. The whole Jason Sudelikis scenario would also have made things shit for the cast. Having to lie to his face about the affair. Florence may have been friends with Sudelikis as she was set to star in Ted Lasso in a cut cameo. Add the fact Harry Styles is a novice actor in a cast of talented actors with many years of experience. Cast was probably upset at having to carry Styles acting-wise. If Labeouf was fired or quit, there are stacks of great young actors who could replace him. Florence and Gemma know at least 20 British/Irish actors each who could replace him. Instead they hire a newbie star with no experience. Lady Gaga has plenty of experience on TV before Star is Born plus she was an actress before she hit stardom.

I saw this movie in theatres yesterday with my boyfriend (I wouldn't have gone to see it normally, I went because he likes Harry Styles lol) and let me say, it definitely was a movie... That feels like a real going to the theatres movie! I won't lie, there were some parts I did enjoy and I think it could have been a lot more than it was if it had some more of something I can't put my finger on, but I agree with you on the whole "it's one of those movies they want you to watch more than once, but I'm definitely not going to" kind of thing. Your first video on this movie popped up on my home page, and normally I don't watch things from creators or topics I'm unfamiliar with, but I'm super glad I watched your video. You hooked me into the topic and I really enjoy your whole energy and video style. I immediately subscribed after finishing the video. You really did prime me for this movie and I can definitely say that I went into the theatre being slightly more interested than I would have been if I hadn't watched your video (because let me be honest, I do not give a shit about a movie just because Harry styles is in it, lmao). Thanks!

This thing just reminds me of how terrible Hollywood's white wealthy feminism is, the fact that they wrote that "interaction" on Coubert is so absurd. If she were a black director, male or female, this would be career ending, I can't even express how I feel about her "thank you for saying I'm actually a nice person because I'm a woman". Louisa May Alcott touched on this "women good pure of heart" fallacy centuries ago and we're still revolving around it
@maggiedk
@maggiedk 2 жыл бұрын
I don't disagree about Hollywood's white feminism or racism, but she wasn't saying "I'm actually a nice person because I'm a woman." They were referring to the fact that many male directors who literally abused their actresses on set are still revered today (Hitchcock, Kubrick, Tarantino), while Wilde has gotten a ton of backlash for something comparatively minor. I have a lot of criticisms for Wilde and the type of privileged white feminism she seems to embody, but what she and Colbert were saying in this case was not wrong at all.
@mahogara
@mahogara 2 жыл бұрын
@@maggiedk All of Hollywood activisms is very superficial. It seems more and more like give a speech or make a strong statement and remarks for roar of applauses in front of lights and cameras, then not actually following through and taking actions when the curtains are drawn. I remember how Natalie Portman went on about feminism and women in Hollywood workforce, then the ratios of people involved in movies directed by her said otherwise. Celebrities lecturing us about environment and how we're dooming the world but they refuse to stop using their private jets. They're so many instances. Of Hypocrisies. Most of us are tired of it. But some of us still are looking at the celebrities as some sort of guiding lights and leaders and put them on pedestals for just saying or doing bare minimums. But yes I do agree that Olivia is being judged more than the male directors who have done far worse to their actors, actresses and crews. But I feel it mostly have to do with the hypocrisy; I don't think she would get much backlashes if she hasn't been portraying herself as the feminist and the empowerment of women. I don't know who or how they decided who get paid what but it would have been nice to hear and see the evidences of Olivia fighting for Florence to get paid more (if the whole Florence getting paid less rumors are truth).
@maggiedk
@maggiedk 2 жыл бұрын
@@mahogara I totally agree that she's a hypocrite, and I think a lot of the backlash she's been receiving is with good reason. I didn't mean for my comment to come off as if I'm trying to defend her actions overall in this situation; I actually think the way she's been trying to publicly pat herself on the back for her shallow, ineffective, privileged white feminism while sucking up to an abuser behind the scenes is incredibly gross. I have SO many problems with the things she's done in this whole situation. I was just trying to say that in that one conversation between her and Colbert, he did have a point about the amount of backlash she's receiving vs male directors who have done much worse. But I don't think that means that she shouldn't receive ANY criticism, just that those male directors should receive much more than they do. I think it's important to acknowledge that misogyny plays a huge part in the public scrutiny of any woman, but I don't think that means that they shouldn't be criticized for doing bad things.
@clara-nt9rx

@@maggiedk I agree about the rule of sexism but also shes new to directing but is already famous for being a hot but average actress which doesn't help. Also she couldve avoided a lot of attention if she wasnt trying to score feminism points for doing barely anything and just talked about directing. Also no one would be talking about this movie if it wasnt for the drama cause its just meh.
@maggiedk
@maggiedk 2 жыл бұрын
@@clara-nt9rx again, I don't really disagree with any of that lol. Once again: I'm not saying that she doesn't deserve any criticism or hasn't brought on a lot of it with her actions. Just that Colbert's point about the *amount* of criticism and scrutiny directed towards her vs male directors was not wrong.

The “it feels like a movie” thing is so funny to me. I know what he was trying to say. He was trying to say that it feels like cinema. It feels like actual art. In a time where we’re inundated with reboots and constant sequels it is refreshing to see a movie that isn’t just a cash grab. It’s how I felt about Nope which was, embarrassingly, the first Jordan Peele movie I’d ever seen and coming out of it, it was so refreshing. I genuinely felt like it reignited my love for movies. Granted, I don’t watch a lot of movies, but I do think I get what he was trying to say as someone who I was really burnt out on Oscar bait and blockbusters.

i agree that she does and will get more scrutiny just based on the fact that she's a women. that's entirely unfair for her while there are others, specifically men, that do the worst things and get away with it. i think in her case the reason why she is under a microscope is due to the fact that she's with harry styles (who is becoming more controversial for queerbaiting, PLEASE DO A VIDEO ABOUT THAT) and his fandom. but i do feel like she made a lot of mistakes with this project and shes gonna have to deal with them, and thats alright! this is movie isnt that bad, i went to see it thursday night. it wasn't a masterpiece and it wasnt the worst movie that i have ever seen. im going to school for film and television production as well as cinema studies so my criticisms come from all parts of pre-production, production, post-production and release and i do feel like this movie was mediocre. i would give it like a 5/10 at most

Had it not been for all the rumours and speculation around the cast of the movie, would this empty, pretentious movie have been praised at all? Would it have gotten as much attention? No and no. And speaking of male directors, would a male director have been praised for making such a mediocre movie? No. However, if Shia LeBouf was in this movie, it wouldn't have been as empty and boring as it turned out to be. Shia and Florence definitely should make a movie together at some point - they would be a great duo! She needs costars who can rise to her level.

Funny because I was actually thinking about Kanye in relation to these antics. I do believe that man has some serious mental health issues, but I also think his erratic behavior is at least partially deliberate. I think he understands that culturally, we’re kind of numb to celebrity gossip unless there’s some element of chaos to it. We need the spectacle of something that looks like it’s either going horribly wrong and the life of this person is spinning out of control, or something that just completely makes a hard left turn with the traditional narrative/expectations of celebrity life. He’s stayed in the zeitgeist as long as he had because he’s made himself a performance artist and an expert on commodifying outrage and the spectacle of being a train wreck on top of being a rapper. I guarantee you most people don’t even know the song “I made that bitch famous” line even came from but they know the line, they know the controversy, and they know the image. In the case of Don’t Worry Darling I do believe the conflict is real, but I think no one actually cares about who said what and that people are only invested because it looks like chaos. It looks like everything is going wrong and the people who are supposed to be in control of the narrative are not.

She did those things is it fair men don’t get called out for the Same stuff of course not, but how does that make her innocent? 2 wrongs don’t make a right, but if one person doesn’t get called out while another one does that just makes it ok?

The fact that you think being a woman would be a salve for criticism says it all. The sexism of that thought is astounding. Women have to deal with far more than that. Sexual assault, femicide, racism, wage gaps, poverty, etc. We're not providing a get out of jail free card for her actions. We're saying that it is unjust that male directors can be sexual assaulters and continue to get gigs and we all sit by and continue to support them while scrutinizing her every move. She does deserve to be held accountable.There's no doubt there Not for her personal life but her directorial work.
