He just did it because he was afraid of a revolution of the hebrew and it didn't even work! It may have postboned it a little but Moses still managed to free his people.

After all, there have been plenty of Christian countries that owned slaves, committed genocide, etc. Also, prior to the shift to agriculture 8,000 years ago, that sort of thing wasn't normal. Hunter-gatherer tribes generally don't enslave/dehumanize people. I'm not saying we should destroy all our factories or something, but its important to realize that the kind of evil depicted in the movie isn't the norm for humanity, since humanity has existed for hundreds of thousands of years, and settled agricultural society has only existed for about 8,000 years.

But yeah, there are MANY parallels: 1) Both Israel and Jesus being the son taken out of Egypt; 2) Both Moses and Jesus were born in turbulent times, when the israelites were under opression (be it from Egypt or Rome) 3) They both survive a baby massacre 4) They both spend 40 days secluded from the people (Moses on Sinai, Jesus on a desert) 5) Both Moses and Jesus speak about God's Grace and Law and explain it to the people of Israel 6) The parallel of the passover lamb and Jesus as God's lamb 7) Moses's song in Exodus is repeated in Revelation, in which the saved people sing this sang in honor to God And many others things!

It also polishes out the original story to make everything more relatable and less.. cringey cuz I do recall reading the actual bible passage about moses and such... and it wasn't really all that.... great. Not a religious person to begin with so I did not have any 'faithblinders' on, if you will. Don't take it the wrong way, I have my own 'blinders' with other things, like certain games development teams, but if you have an objective view on something, you won't overlook certain rather cringey parts.

Ghibli while now infrequent in output is still running and there are countless other studios in Japan and elsewhere in Asia still concentrating on 2D animated feature films. That's not even touching on 3D CGI animated feature films which exploded from just Pixar in the 90s to dozens in the 2000s alone, and many more in the 2010's. 2D animated feature films are hella expensive and time consuming to make, even the world famous Hayao Miyazaki of Studio Ghibli has expressed fears that it just won't survive much longer. Disney has long since given up on it after the mediocre box office performance of The Princess and the Frog - even as shameless as Disney are that has to have been a blow considering 2D animated feature films was the cornerstone of its business from day one.

I do agree that Studio Ghibli has some really great films though, unfortunately new technology doesn't always mean better when it comes to preserving the "magic" of hand drawn 2D animation films.

I always felt so bad for Ramses though. He had way more pressure and felt scared to let his father and the people down, then lost his only brother who he clearly lived very dearly, then his son. Obviously his stubbornness and refusal to let them go until the end is horrible, but I can’t help but think it’s almost impossible to change your entire world view just like that. Even as a child I felt so bad for him (as well as everyone else obviously)

I am CONSTANTLY thinking/saying "Props to the women of Exodus"!!! His birth mother saved him, his sister protected and watched over him until she was sure he was safe, Pharoah's queen rescued and raised him, future wife led him full circle back to his sister, his sister gave him the gift of truth, and they both believed in him and his mission 1,000%. His wife never told him "Wow listen to yourself, you sound crazy" she just went "I GOT YOU BOO I'M COMIN' WITH YOU". When his own brother struck him to the ground, his wife comforted him and his sister lifted him up. PROPS TO THE WOMEN OF EXODUS 🙌🏼👏🏼 It was great watching this with you Welchy, thanks for uploading!

The women of the Bible are *awesome.* Judith walked into an enemy camp, got the enemy general drunk, then cut off his head and walked out *with his head in her basket.* Ester risked her life *multiple times* just to *talk* to her husband and king in order to save her people. Rahab helped the Hebrew spies sneak in and out of Jericho then left with them when the city fell. She's one of the few women mentioned in Jesus's genealogy.

There a story when Moses wants to see god and god tells him he can only see his shadow without dying, and only the shadow alone made him physically glow for like a week just from looking at it. Yeah. I never fully understood until I knew more of the history. As I grew up with this movie, I didn't know Moses was 80+ years old and that Aaron, Moses' brother, was sent by God to help Moses, did a majority of the miracles, for Moses was very self conscious. (More too, but those are major ones)

Yeah, they were pretty much accurate in most everything except for timelapses (Moses being about 40 when he killed the Egyptian, and 80 when he was called) and family relationships (as God says, "those who wanted Moses dead were long killed by the time he called him," the Pharaoh of the Exodus probably wasn't even his brother; it might've been his nephew or grandnephew; also, Moses probably knew he was Hebrew since he was young, as Miriam managed to get him closer to his birthmother)

I'd still like to see a version where Aaron helps Moses because he's afraid he doesn't know what to say. I was raised Christian and Catholic, and taught this movie was a good adaptation of Exodus. I completely did not realize most wouldn't watch this or have an idea about this movie. I too am no longer a religious person either; primarily because I did not want an abusive relationship with a Deity. When I realized I had an abusive relationship with another human that was both physically and mentally abusive, I saw too much in common with my abuser and religion (did not help that 'God' didn't help me).

My family watch it every Shabbat! Literally my entire family- including all the cousins and aunts and uncles can all quote it nearly word for word we watch it so much! Pesach is such a magical time to watch it as well, and despite watching it nearly every week of every year, it never fails to send shivers down my spine! What happened in the beginning scene was that the Israelites were growing too big in number and Pharoah sent guards that morning to kill every baby boy aged under 3? Years old to avoid the Israelites from rising up against them. So yeah, he was scared.

@@meme0218 Yes, you're right. When Herod heard that the King of the Jews had been born, he wanted to find just Jesus. But the wise men wouldn't tell him, so instead Herod killed every baby boy under the age of two. Jesus survived because an angel warned Joseph and they fled. In this story, the Hebrews were growing too numerous and the Pharoah was scared of them. So he ordered every baby boy killed and tried to get midwives in on it. That was why Moses's mother had to send him onto the river.

The major US studios may have abandoned 2D animation but that doesn't smaller ones or ones outside the US have! One of particular note from recent years is Klaus, I highly recommend it. Visually stunning marvel. You'd swear it was 3D animation rendered to look 2D but it's actually the other way around.

When you study the Bible you come to understand the purpose behind the symbolism of using the blood of a perfect lamb to save those within that house. Because Jesus became the perfect sacrificial lamb on the cross to save those who would follow God in obedience.

Foreshadowing is when you lightly allude to something much earlier in the story without undue emphasis which later becomes an important or lynchpin part of the story. Like in Pixar's Inside Out where you see from the first scene of the film that Joy's eyes and hair are the same shade of blue as Sadness - contrasted to Fear, Anger and Disgust whose eyes, skin and hair are all more or less a singular color individual to them alone. That subtle highlighting foreshadows the important dichotomy of Joy/Sadness that Joy was constantly denying the existence of, and yet had been there from the beginning as she notes when replaying one of Riley's core memories originally thought to be simply happy/yellow, but sees that they are in part sad/blue and that this was important to the memory.

What I actually hated as well was the abusive parenting that the Pharaoh had on Ramses, because I get that he's the heir and has this responsibility, but calling him weak and irresponsible and forcing to maintain these traditions also kept Ramses from growing as a person and just hit his emotional growth. And I know things had to get going, but again... not seeing your brother for almost a decade and then he shows up to tell you there's this new order and you have to obey this God that Ramses didn't follow- it's just a lot to unpack on someone too Moses!!! 😄😄 I would've been more gentle. And that damn child of Ramses!!!! Aaawwwwhhhhhgggg, I hate him so much!!!! Ramses and Moses were FINALLY going to reach a middle ground and then he just waltzed in like "Oh no! Dad I'm so scared!!! Why is this man (Moses) here?" Like Boi, why are YOU HERE?!?!! Let the brothers talk it out, you insensitive pissflap!! *I'm sorry I'm commenting a lot😅it's just that this movie is just very special to me and any chance I get, I'm just going to fangirl over it. @@magsyilden670 In Judaism, a lot of our history has to do with the idea of balance and one could probably denote it to karma, though a lot of Jews dislike using the word because it's too modern (lol, I'm not one of them because that just sounds ridiculous). For example, the death of every firstborn was preceded by 9 other warnings. If Ramses had stopped and let them go instead of becoming more and more stubborn, then it would never have gotten to that point. Also, it is balancing out not only the years of slavery and pain the Hebrews went through, but also the death of the newborn male sons years prior. Do take into consideration, that like the Pharaoh at the time, Seti, only killed the male sons of the Hebrews, God only killed the firstborn male sons of the Egyptians, thus creating balance (I myself don't agree with the way things went, but since it is in my culture, there is really nothing I can do to change it). I just thought maybe it'd be interesting to know. Also, growing up as a Jewish child, I was more focused on the thought that had the death of every firstborn not happened, then the Jews would never have been released from Egypt and we would have likely spent many more centuries suffering and being killed there, so in a way, I grew up being torn between being relieved it happened and being saddened that it did. And in Judaism, a big fundamental concept is that we are supposed to ask questions and think about what else could have happened, which makes for many interesting debates and talks with other people.

To be fair also, god may have (starting 6-10) been purposely hardening the heart of Pharaoh, it always seemed a bit in reading that God kind of prolonged it for his own people to prove a point. And I don't find karma or revenge to be something that hold water or solves problems and I always found it horrific that the story of exodus acts like it's the right way to go. However if the Jews themselves had killed a bunch of Egyptians I actually would feel different about it than it being a divine power. It wasn't even his revenge to take tbh. If someone killed my brother, I'd kill them. I wouldn't kill their brother even to hurt him bc his brother did NOTHING WRONG and doesn't deserve regardless under any circumstances to have his life ripped from him. To be fair, I'm no longer a Christian bc I personally think that IF that God is real, I don't want anything to fucking do with him bc he's evil and was constantly doing shit especially in the old Testament (before the birth of Jesus splits the Christian and Jewish faiths) that I found to be reprehensible 😂 but they were all taught to me with all their justifications as good things...... Oof.

Why would you do that?!", so I am quite happy with being able to do that lol. But I totally understand. I wouldn't kill someone's brother because they had killed mine, but I guess in Judaism, you really had to earn forgiveness and make up for it- though I really do agree that this wasn't making up for it, it was just plain cruel. I know what you are saying about God hardening Ramses' heart, and that is actually something we Jews talk about quite often and ask why God did such a thing, since God needn't have made the Egyptians suffer more than they needed to. The Red Sea is indeed an excellent place to find whale sharks, and even though they're one of the biggest animals on Earth, they were unknown to humans until the 1800s. I was always impressed by how loved this underrated movie is to people who don't know of its biblical origins/inspirations. And I think that's what makes it better than most "religious" movies. First and foremost, it isn't even meant to BE a religious movie (as said by Jeffrey Katzenberg). Its source may be a bible story but what makes it work is how it uses themes that all people can empathize with. The tragic brotherhood between Moses and Rameses has always haunted me with how sad it ended up being. As an audience, you KNOW they cared so much for each other, which makes seeing them become bitter enemies all the more painful. I'm so jazzed you reacted to this gem of a film, Welchy! Oh. And, um, if you ever want to react to some films that aren't made by Disney or Dreamworks, my suggestion of "Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'hoole" and "Wolfwalkers" still stands, haha.

I just want to say, that the whole point of the staff in both the Bible and the movie is not to be an elder wand type of thing but as a symbol of the power of faith and a demonstration of "God's Wonders" as said in the burning bush! I think it really contributes the theme of faith and hope in a higher purpose and power that the movie is founded out. So it's not really the "power of the staff" it's the power of God and of faith!

I think what you were talking about in the beginning (about the slaughtering of the newborns) was actually way later, in the new testament. The Boss at that time got the message from the three wise men that a new king had been born, so he decided to kill all newborns. In Egypt, as I recall it, it was simply the Pharao being scared that his slaves would get too numerous and rise up against him. I didn't check if that's right, if anybody knows more please tell me!
