Fun fact: during the song "Be our guest" Lumiere states that they've been trapped for 10 years. The Beast's transformation was set to be finalized on his 21st birthday. This means that the curse was put on him when he was 10/11 years old. This child had an old woman ask to stay the night. He was absolutely correct in saying no. It's called "stranger danger" and I feel so sorry for him. It also explains why he has poor table manners & doesn't read very well. This man needs school & therapy.

It states by his 21st year, not 21st birthday, so I always interpreted it as his 21st year as a beast, that in the first 10 years the beast was hopeful that the curse would be broken but after that he became depressed and withdrawn as he had given up all hope. So going by this they were frozen in time; no one would age, which makes sense considering Chip is still a young child.
@IMayOrMayHaveNot
@IMayOrMayHaveNot 2 жыл бұрын
In the Diamond Edition DVD there's a segment in the Making Of addressing the whole age issue. They explained the "10 years we've been rusting" line in Be Our Guest was an oversight. When you remove the song's line off the picture, everything falls back into place: the portrait and stained glass portray him as a young adult as intended and chip still being a child makes sense, cuz they got frozen in time. The narrator does say "21st year" instead of "21st birthday".

The Beast is also a metaphor for someone living with AIDS. Howard Ashman was dying of AIDS at the time where people were misinformed about the disease and the homophobic agenda at the 1980’s-early 90’s didn’t help. When you realize that most of Ashman’s songs are about his hopes and dreams of being loved and free from society, it puts a bittersweet smile on your face and tears in your eyes 😢

I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid but just watching this made me feel so much affection for the beast. Like watching this and realizing he's only 20 years old and in this seemingly hopeless situation. It's actually really endearing to see his face light up in hope when he thinks Belle is coming to dinner or when they're dancing and he's looking at Lumiere and Cogsworth like "Do you guys see this?!?" Like a kid whose dancing with his crush at a school dance. Maybe I'm just old but it's really cute.

To put it in terms of Greek mythology, Beast is a chimera....a mix of animal features. He has the brow of a gorilla, the head and horns of a buffalo, the fangs of a wild boar, the body and arms of a bear and the hind legs and tail of a wolf. A chimera in Greek legend had a lion's head, a goat's body, and a serpent's tail.

This movie is such a masterpiece. The expressions of every character really adds to their humanization (like the scene Belle takes her father's place as Beast's prisoner, we actually SEE how the beast is feeling about this. He looks sad and uncertain, he actually shows some remorse.). And you of course have the Beast's character development, which is great. Belle actually takes the lead with their relationship many times, showing us she WANTS to help him, and they bond over her teaching the Beast how to do things like read, be kind to animals, and to dance and eat food. The Beast changes himself for her happiness, even giving her a library for her to enjoy. He doesnt focus on the spell anymore, he loves Belle and just wants what's best for her- which included letting her go to her father by the end. This film is such a marvel that more people should be talking about!!

Same thing. Also #SaveWelchysDebonairsmile. Okay, going to stop now. Too much good content to comment on so I'm going to summarize it. This video is *awesome* . Favourite video so far!🤣

I loved this movie when I was a kid and I still do it today. Both get to know each other step by step and see both their strengths and their weaknesses. Unlike some other movies, conflicts are not immediately resolved, but instead addressed directly. While Gaston “remains blind and deaf” to pursue his ideals, the Beast (Adam) is “woken up” by Belle holding him “a mirror. ” He even tries to understand Belle and her point of view. There’s more to this story than you can tell at first glance.

Going to have to rain on a lot of parades here, but Beast's name is not Adam. He is literally credited in the film as "Beast." The directors have both stated, as has the producer, in interviews that at no time was the character referred to as anything by them or the animation teams other than "The Beast." Dave Smith is often cited as a source of the Prince Adam name, but he too denies this vehemently in a D23 interview and if you look at all his A-Z books, he mentions this nowhere. In fact, the ONLY place that it can be found is a 1998 PC game called "The D-Show" (I had it, can vouch for this) which asked what his name was and the correct choice was Prince Adam. This game was not developed by Disney, however. It was licensed out to a 3rd party and Disney didn't really have much of a say. Fans have just latched onto the idea and it is a myth that simply will not die. That aside, this film is an utter masterpiece.

I wasn't expecting you to have to pause to compose yourself when the Beast died. This movie is peak Disney to me. There's a reason this is the first and only animated film to be nominated for Best Picture at the academy awards. Not best animated film, best picture. It did win best original song for the ballroom sequence.

We kinda need a side by side from this version of the beast and the new one honestly. I find the animated one SO MUCH more intimidating what with the hunch on his back walking on all fours at times the HUGE teeth and claws. Very werewolf like where as the newer version is still more human like so the gradual change through the movie shows his humanity and Gaston's insanity

To be clear, saying "please" does not excuse everything, nor does it obligate someone to do you a favour they aren't prepared to do. "No" is always a valid answer. If someone doesn't want to eat with their captor, that's perfectly reasonable. There's a major power imbalance there and I wouldn't want to eat with someone I was scared of either. Imagine how hard it would be to even eat in that situation. as a prisoner with no rights and an angry owner across the table from you, probably watching you try to eat, seemingly ready to attack at any moment.

I've heard people argue that this movie encourages people to remain in abusive relationships with the hope that they will one day change with the right woman or that it is a Stockholm Syndrome story, with Belle being the Beast's prisoner. While I can't speak for anyone who has actually been in those kinds of relationships, and I can certainly understand the point of view, I don't quite see it in this movie myself. Mainly because of two things. First off, when the beast freaks out at her in the West Wing, she immediately tries to get away, which compared to the original story, she did not try to escape. Even after the Beast fought off the wolves, Belle was about to leave but decided she couldn't let the Beast just die. This is less of a statement of her being locked into the situation and more of a character moment showing how good of a person Belle is. Second, after this moment, when he yelled at her while she was washing his wounds, she stood up to him and put him in his place. She called him out that his own actions were to blame for the situation, that he needed to control his temper. After that, the Beast never yells at her again and treats her extremely differently. That's the moment that seals it for me, that she stood up for herself at the start of what could have been a bad situation and made it clear she wasn't going to put up with it. Let's say if instead after this, the Beast yelled at her again or attacked her and she stuck around some more. That I could see as an abusive cycle. But I think the point is that you shouldn't put up with this kind of behavior and Belle would have been completely warranted leaving the first time, and they did form a mutual respect at that point. She put a stop to the cycle immediately by saying "This is not ok and you need to do better" and the Beast listened. I have no doubt that if it continued, Belle is the kind of character who would not have stuck around for it. Obviously this is a very complicated issue and as adults, we can read a lot into this situation. But I don't think the message in regards to how Belle reacts to the Beast and the situation is as black and white as people make it out to be

At the beginning scene - it's Bambi's mother (or at least the same animation used at the scene she dies). Idk if it's cannon or a popular theory, but you see Gaston and La-fou with parts of a hunted deer, so.... Gaston killed Bambi's mom.

Howard Ashman the composer & lyricist for this & The Little Mermaid died during the making of this. He was a gay man & most of this movie was clever metaphor for LGTBQ+. At the end of the credits is a memorial for him "For Howard, who gave a mermaid her voice and a beast his soul." I highly recommend watching some of the behind the scenes if you can. The interviews & footage truly conveys just how amazing this film is & why it remains the only animated film to ever be nominated for Best Picture at the Academy Awards

About the location of the castle by the townsfolk you have two explanations here. 1) the one you give 2) the live action one(spoiler: don'tread if you haven't watched it) : they knew were the castle was because they have some family members (the furniture's pieces) that worked for the Beast as a prince, so they knew the position of it.
