How Heinrich Himmler Lost His Mind

As the Second World War was coming to an end in Europe, Heinrich Himmler tried to save his skin. The Head of the SS was appointed a commander of two army groups and he was out of his depth. He failed as a military commander and because of this, Himmler's relationship with Hitler began to become strained. He was falling from grace in the eyes of the Nazi Dictator and because of this he became incredibly anxious and he ended up checking into Hohenlychen Sanatorium. This was a hospital for SS soldiers to recover, and Himmler whilst the war was going downhill was relaxing inside of this facility.
Whilst inside of the Sanatorium, he tried to make peace with the Allies and this ultimately failed and he tried to portray himself as a hero. But he was having a breakdown which was brought on through stress and anxiety of his failings on the Eastern Front. Himmler was not a military man, but he was in the heart of the war effort in the final moments of the Second World War.

He was no military commander though he had aspirations to be one he was just a very evil bureaucrat at best. If he did commit suicide or as has been suggested was offed by the British for political reasons it was no great loss, he would have had a date with Mr. Pierrepoint eventually.

In the Himmler biography by Peter Padfield he states that when Himmler was with his personal masseuse Felix Kersten, he would literally spill his guts to him about upcoming operations and state matters concerning the jews. And Kersten would promptly forward this information to the Allies.

Heinrich Himmler was a failure as a military leader BUT he was extremely clever to stay in his position for the whole of the War. He undoubtedly knew of Germany's defeat and had time and the power to do something about his own future. 25 years ago I visited Germany and drove to Hohenlychen where the former hospital still stood. I asked an old lady if she knew about it and YES she said as a little girl she had seen Himmler there sitting in a deck chair on the grass outside the hospital. I visited the Seelow heights and Peenemunde too. Not all history accounts are necessarily true. I did some in depth research on Himmler and questioned his 'death' and came to realise how HE could and DID SURVIVE. Readers will not believe that so let's look at the bare facts: A man alone in the Custody of the British Army says he is Heinrich Himmler. During a medical examination elsewhere this man crushed a cyanide ampoule in his mouth and died. Himmler was known to have stomach problems and was in pain. A day or two later BBC Radio announces Himmler's death Now the logic of that is IF the dead man was not the real Himmler - then why should anyone search for Himmler in the future Because he has been Declared Dead? The suicide was in no way fanaticism.
