Yeah I never really go by it much, the dispensary I go to have it as 23%-27% on a jar because one bud might be stronger than another. I have had 36% thc flower that was crap, and the stuff I have right now is 25% and its so much better of a buzz, better terps most likely. I agree. The highest I've seen for flower is 34% and I thought that was high. I've never seen or heard of anything 40% that's crazy! Back in 2019 according to the research I was doing back then the highest known strain was Brownie Scout which at that time was 30%. I just bought an 1/8 at 32%. It's definitely really great but I don't know if it's really 32%. I've had some 🔥 flower at 15%. I look into the strain lineage and go off of what strains I've had before and check the reports for cannabinoids and terpenes, when I can. It would be nice if all dispensaries listed the most prominent cannabinoids and terpenes with percentages. Rise does this and it's the only place I know that puts everything on the label. They also have a guide book that explains all the details of each different type of flower. Vidacann used to show THC, CBD, and CBG percentages which I appreciated. It seems like labeling went downhill after they changed the packaging rules. It's kind of a crap shoot though. No matter how much research you do.

I’d believe a moon rock hitting 90% THC realistically. But only if it’s by wt%; the oil that it’s covered in is so much heavier than the bud itself, thus massively increasing the content without adding much volume, because it soaks into the bud as well. Some company’s could just be using weird units too.

Something else not talked about is, dispos often turn to "grey market" suppliers. These are unlicensed growers selling to licensed dispos. They will slap some pretty wild info on their untested product.

I just got Garlic cookies strain rated at 35%, the smell from the bag fills the room like wow. Haven't lit up yet. When I was in Cali I grabbed some gooberz and tropicali, both at 35%. Gotta say they smelled amazing and I especially liked the gooberz. Very potent!

My shop leans into that thing too, because it's what our clientele goes by. We try and help teach people about what they're smoking and about how they can enjoy it the best. We had a really fire strain on the wall, but it was only testing at 12%. We let people smell what they're buying, so I was able to show people what that 12% is all about, and that its mostly terpenes you want to hunt for, and your nose will 99/100 lead you to what you want

The higher percentage was more of an indicator back in the day; for us old heads. It had to do with less of how the ratio was viewed in any literal sense and more to do with the quality of the grow. That's why this new system confuses us old peeps. We expect a high thc yield product to be grown well and terp heavy. I think that they've (medical marijuana) bastardized the process of gauging the quality of marijuana to some degree.

isn't it the % of the part of the plant that is psychoactive that is THC? so not the % of the plant that is Trichomes - because trichomes are not just THC. Then comes how many trichs are on that part of the plant like discussed. Alcohol % in beer is easily understood as measured, the rest of the liquid in the can represents the rest of the active ingredients in our trichs (or other THC containing part of the plant), the can itself represents one whole trichome.
