Recently started collecting with my partner, we pulled the pikachu sir in the first pack of a booster box. We were stunned and it’s a memory that I will never forget since this is the first chase card we’ve ever pulled. Definitely going to cherish this moment and share it with my kids in the future :)

I was able to buy the Pikachu SIR from my local shop on pre-release for 300 even. I felt dumb spending so much on a card when the set wasn't released yet but knew I would probably never open it myself. Obviously that was one of the best purchases I have made in this hobby. Its currently getting graded at PSA. I have to agree that its best to buy the card you want, especially with a big set like SS.

The people buying it for this price are probably just other resellers looking to hike it up even higher for the next person. Completely falling into fomo on a product that hasn’t even been out for a week. There will be plenty of product available. Also, the 1:960 doesn’t mean you have to open that many packs to get one, it’s a rough estimate on how many you might need to open to get close to a guarantee. I watched four of them get pulled out of less than 800 packs. Point is, just like every set before, these prices will go down, especially with prismatic evolutions coming soon.

With packs and booster boxes being hard to find and the ones that can be found are increasing in price. I do not see the price for the Pikachu chase card going down. The supply of packs that is out there is probably getting ripped or being stored for the long term. Prismatic is around the corner over shadowing Suring Sparks people will be pulling for the next set. Pikachu is hard to pull. The number of pikachu out there will remain the same or get smaller. (People who want that card and are holding it decreases the circulating supply). Sellers who don't want to lose money will sell theirs at a certain price with no room to lower. The price of the single chase card will stay at a high range or go higher . The packs will remain at a high price because whoever is wanting to rip to get the chase card. Chance for a a reprint lowering price will be low with the plan and hype for the upcoming 2025 sets and 30 year anniversary. Their is no rationale for surging to be reprinted when it can be used with the new sets and if they did reprint the market might just eat it up regardless. So things are pointing to pikachu being an expensive grail and chase and the price point being maintained over time. Knowing you got in at 200-300 for the pikachu makes you waaaaay ahead of the game

@@luked4587 all I know is that the market has organically recalibrated without celebrity influence nor stimulus money. Pokémon is doing things never done before…numbers don’t lie. The fact of the matter is that SS Pikachu is continuously climbing even after people “fore-saw” a crash coming on or soon after release date (because singles are overpriced during prerelease/debut). We’re no longer in that same market. I still stand on my original comment ✌️

Man this is horrific advice. Spend $700 on a card that’s not even one week old? And so it begins. Pump fear at all cost. Buy a booster box of Surging Sparks at MSRP? Sure, the risk is very low even if it drops to $100 somehow through the biggest reprint ever, all of these modern BBs are hitting MSRP eventually. Buy a single that nobody liked for $700 that was $400 on release? Man I hate where this hobby is going. Then when people follow the advice and it crashes hard the KZbinrs will say “investing 101 don’t buy the highs blah blah”. Just terrible.

@ No my complaint is saying buy a card 5 days after release. “If you’re afraid it’s going to hit $1000, just buy it”. This is horrible advice. I even stated, if you want to buy a booster box of surging at msrp, yes, do it. The lowest it will go is $80. We saw that with Chilling Reign, Fusion strike, SV Base, etc. That’s not a horrible risk plus we are not in that market anymore. It’s worth the risk, the downside is very small. Buying a chase card for $700 that’s moved up almost double in 5 days IS MORONIC. There is no market that supports buying a card 5 days after release or you’re screwed. I guarantee you the card will not be $700 in a 6 months, a year, etc. this is promoting FOMO even stating just buy it. It’s well known buying cards on release is a horrible idea. People are buying these cards chasing a 10 to resell. This is horrible advice I will stick with that mindset I wouldn’t even utter “buy it” out of my mouth if I had a following. If you think every set is gonna have $1000 cards after week one go ahead and buy the next sets highest prerelease card. Empty the savings. If not, this is trash advice.
