September 13, 2024 | Social philosopher Roman Krznaric discusses topics from his new book, History for Tomorrow.
Roman's inspiring new book shows how much of the groundwork for a potential ecological civilization has already been laid by those who have come before us-and that's what we explored in depth today.
We cover topics ranging from 18th century Japan as a model for the circular economy, and the dramatic political transformation in Kerala, India that came about, not as a result of societal collapse, but from generations of ordinary people, many of them women, applying grassroots political pressure for change.

Thank you for this excellent discussion. There are indeed very rich possibilities available to us and yes, we need to dig deep into ourselves both individually and collectively to activate that radical hope. An alternative path can be imagined and created. We need to be fearless and full of love to pursue it. Hopefully I get the opportunity to read/listen to Roman's book.

This type of democracy is described in Heide Goettner-Abendroths study of Matriarchies that go back to the stone age. There are still remnants of this with the Minanqabau in Indonesia, the Mosu in China, the Khasi in India and the Iroquois/Haudenoshauni in the USA are rebuilding their system.
