Last year my daughter and son-in-law purchased a home and their number 1 rule, which was non-negotiable, - no HOA. I am so glad they stuck to this rule - especially after watching this video.

Cities usually force developers to create an HOA as a condition of giving them a permit to develop. There's a few reason, but most stem from the city not wanting to maintain infrastructure. To develop a piece of land, it out state it is required to have a park. In the 70s, the developer would put in a park, and then hand over maintenance to the city. Same with the roads, and common landscaping. Eventually cities didn't want any more to take care of, and an HOA is the answer. In my city, we now have METRO tax on new developments. This is a 30 year extra property tax to cover costs of having more people relying on the cities infrastructure. Basically doubles property tax. It's the worst if hoth worlds, every new development has HOA fees, AND METRO tax. Plus if you want to build your own house on a piece of land, you pretty much have to have 35 acres. And you'll be stuck with the whole parcel, since it's virtually impossible to subdivide below 35 acres, and parcels under 35 acres can't get a well, so yeah, i hope you can afford 35 acres. They talk about wanting higher density, but then go out of their way to run prices up as much as possible. Got to love Colorado

First of all a home is not an investment vehicle, it's the place where you live, raise your family and put down roots. The reason you stop renting and buy a home is to make it your own. What I'd recommend to anyone considering buying a home is to either look a little further out in a rural area for a home that is not part of a neighborhood, trust me you'll appreciate the peace, quiet and privacy, or purchase a lot or land and build your own home, not asome cookie cutter place in a planned community. No one in their right mind should pay a half million or more only to told what you can or can't do with your own property. Put in a garden, build your kids a tree house, hang a tire swing, build an outbuilding to hang out with the guys or gals, that's what the American Dream is all about. It's what you work ridiculous hours for.

I live in an HOA condo and I would never, ever again buy into any type of HOA property. I look forward to the day I can sell my condo and buy a non-HOA house. Even if it's an older house, as long as it is not an HOA community.

The reason people are attracted to homes in HOA communities is because the HOA communities are attractive and well maintained in accordance with the CCR's (covenants, restrictions, and conditions) of that community. The realtors are responsible for providing the details of the HOA fees and rules. If home buyers do their own due diligence the they should not have any problems. Instead, they buy because they like the look of the homes and the communities and in no time they have put up an above ground swimming poll, a basketball hoop, a broken trampoline, and a nonrunning 1983 Honda civic on blocks. Their property looks like a dump and wrecks the look of the neighborhood. They say it is their property and they can do what they want. News: They can't do what they want.

Why do people buy these houses to begin with?
@VortexVibe6343 ай бұрын
“Convenience and security” like everything else is a compromise, I don’t like them, some of my friends love them because they don’t have to do anything and they’re front yards look nice, and have amenities. The people interviewed on this video are in distress but they’re playing victim, they have to go to their HOA and put an application for any exterior changes their doing to their houses, also they are expected to keep their place clean.

30 years of real estate experience. Never buy a property with HOA.Specially condos. They enjoy their power and make your life miserable.Its like a mini police station for your neighborhood. Don't expect the govt is going to cover you from this abuse. As long money is exchanging hands,its ok by them. Its all about money and control.

If you live inside City Limits there’s really no need for a HOA because the City’s Code Compliance will ultimately do the same thing. And They Too can foreclose on your home due to unpaid fines and violations. But they are Far less aggressive and usually only come around if your neighbors complain about something. Many of these HOA’s start off as POA’s or Property Owners Associations and are similar but Much Less Intrusive in your lives. If you can keep your community a POA it’s Much Better 👍🏽 HOA’s are Money Making Property Stealing Control Freaks!! MEGA KARENS!!! As an independent Custom Home Builder here in the DFW Area I will No Longer accept builds in HOA communities. Way too much hassle and risk. AVOID HOA’s AT ALL COSTS!!!!! IMO 🤷🏻♂️

i really hate videos like this were they talk about how Karens and Kevins have any rights over all the other people in their neighborhoods. lazy people that don't read, talk to others and just go around acting like karens and kevins, just trying to impose their single minded wills on everyone else.

Only somebody incredibly dumb will move into a neighborhood that has an HOA. When I eventually sell my house which I’ve had a lot of interest in over the years of people buying it, the first thing I will say is there is no HOA in this neighborhood.

If they don't have a quarm...you don't have to pay the fines...have to pay dues but they can't collect fines!😂 Check the rules❤
@JWG20143 ай бұрын
look at your contract... lots of agreements do not specify a amount of the fine. Then the HOA makes up some fines..BUT... most of the time they don't do it correctly and get a proper vote. My neighborhood tried that.. they voted at a meeting.. the 15 people there and the board.. hate to tell them, its not the 75% of the neighborhood that is required. So their votes were useless... Courts normally side on the signer of the contact for ambiguous language. And then -- make them prove it was voted on correctly..

Like many KZbin videos, this one greatly exaggerates life in an HOA to get clicks. I have lived in 2 HOAs and haven’t had any of the issues described in the video. Naturally, I don’t enjoy paying dues, but it is not like I didn’t know that when I bought the property. Is it that surprising that the HOA would put a lien on your property if you don’t pay your dues? The “data” presented doesn’t prove anything. Are you saying that if your neighbor doesn’t cut the lawn, and keeps junk in front of his house, it won’t affect your property’s value? If you want to pay more for a home because it doesn’t have an HOA, go right ahead.
