In the wild, horses run on rough terrain to escape predators and find food and water, and this can wear down their hooves, but pet horses don't have to run from predators or may not have much space in their 'free' time to run around in nor rough ground to chip at their hooves. Several videos show rescues of abused/neglected horses in which the hooves have grown and curved, causing strain on tendons which can lead to lameness. Other hoofed creatures like cows and sheep need trimming as well although the techniques are slightly different as their hooves are split, so shoeing is not recommended unless a special case.

I personally prefer a hoof carer to a farrier since I don’t want my horse to wear boots but I always love seeing videos of hooves being trimmed! :)

No, the hoof is horn and has no nerve innervation.

The hoof is like a _really_ thick toenail, rather than the foot itself. This is essentially a fancy manicure. “So imagine having a shoe on, and somebody taps the bottom of your shoe. You would feel the sensation of it, but it doesn’t actually hurt you.”

No, it doesn't have nerves there. Besides, if it did feel pain, the horse wouldn't just sit there and take it. The horse would immediately kick that man into the stratosphere

As you can see it’s glowing red at some point. While it’s still hot the farrier changes the size to fit the hoof. Then when it cools just a little so it grey, he sticks it on.
