the slight improvement in performance is not worth the high temp imo. I went with M1 because of lesser cores / watts (less heat generated) and as added bonus the higher ssd speed (not sure how much effect it has on the swap). The less cores / watt is pretty crucial when you buy a fanless computer. As much a leap these M series chips are in terms of portable computing power, I don't think we are at a point where we could see the full potential of fanless computing.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple focused the next version of MacOS on optimizing the M2 Air OR re-introduced a fan or massively improved cooling in the 2023 Air. This laptop is their bread/butter, if the base Air has legit re-call style issues, it would cost them billions. 3rd party cooling solutions are going to be useful for dedicated power-sessions (Those temps are at crazy utilization rates, no app is optimized enough to use 100% of every core) but the on-the-go performance increase is still nice. It sucks, I sold my 2014 Air anticipating the M2 Air and now I had to spend extra 200$ to get M1 SSD speeds (I got the 512/16GB version). Mag Safe, better speakers, Aux port, microphone and camera will help it keep its value. This thing better last me years, if issues pop up then I'll return it asap.
@jamesmccoy69922 жыл бұрын
@@789french5 Also keep in mind that Apple silicon chips are still relatively new. They handle non optimised applications incredibly well and are hands down the best in the market right now. As time goes on, more and more developers will be optimising their apps to fully utilise Apple silicon. That should help with the heat issues on more intensive tasks. But then again, if you’re reliant on high intensive tasks then you go for the pro models. Airs are for portability with occasional high resource work

I have to also comment on all of the "hysteria" on the heat throttling... This is only an issue because this is really the first time that a fanless design could do some heavy duty work, even in short spurts... For me, that's perfect to have that capability. Cheers mate for finally bringing a real world usage along with benchmarks video. It’s not that complicated if u want to get a m2 MacBook Air. Like he said. If u r rendering videos all day and similar cpu intensive “pro”work then u shouldn’t be even looking at this machine. For everyone else literally, it’s a perfect machine. Ordered mine with 16gb ram and 1Tb of memory in space grey, after seeing how the midnight colour is becoming a fingerprint magnet. Now someone might say why spend so much extra and go for the m1 MacBook Pro 14 instead. My answer to all of them is, I am coming from a 2015 MacBook Pro 13 and i am a full time trader and would be using this machine for that purpose and the usual consumption of multimedia stuff, browsing etc. and why should I not go for the latest apple chip and technology in the m2 air than the m1 pro. Cheers again for this video and m glad I made the right choice. Just got your video in my recommendations. Was deciding on getting the new Mac for med school in 3 months. Winning the Mac would be amazing since I won’t have to pay and I can use it for med school I’m starting in 3 months 🎉

If you get the 16gb ram and 512 gb storage Air will it be as good as the pro?

No a little bit of difference

I usually tend to play games for a good while on my m2 air, should I be worried about it being really hot for typically an hour at a time? I don’t mind it being slower, I’d just like to know whether it would damage the laptop or not.

I would use the MacBook Air M1 as my work laptop. I need the M1 power to run the somewhat demanding codebase we use for our in-house website builder. ♥️

I would replace my old Lenovo laptop and finally make the switch over to Mac. I love the midnight color!

I’d rather go with the m1 MacBook air, as i was willing to get one for some time now and I’m an IGCSE home schooling student 😁😁. Cheers

I wonder what impact the passive cooling would have on the MBA's chips/internals and battery after a couple of years of regular use. Most people keep their laptops for 4-5yrs.

I appreciate the view here. I am upgrading a 2013 macbook air, so I am sure there will be quite the change from that. I use a desktop pc (great cpu from 2016) and it will probably still be faster here, but I will only be doing light development work on this thing on the go anyhow.

my new m1 MBP 14inch got really hot while not doing much on it the first week. It seems to have calmed down now but I am worried. Is that normal?

Since it can get particularly hot in Australia, how does it go?
@YeahTheMitchs2 жыл бұрын
I also live in Australia and own a MacBook Air. I probably wouldn’t recommend taking it outside IF the weather is hot. For my tasks, I don’t really push the system because I basically use it for school to write documents and create presentations. If you don’t care about the design, get the 13 inch MacBook Pro, or even get a refurbished M1 and that will get the job done plus run cooler.

Preordered the M2 MBA and I would rather the 1000 dollar gift card to max accessorize my laptop, keyboard and everything. These videos are so short and full of simple, easy to digest information, I love it!
