@Stg but it’s especially true with DB
@juliandavidhoffer20223 жыл бұрын
@Stg ok bro, when something is happening in Super people theorize over what is going to resolve the issue. They will see a powerful enemy and say “will Broly come back and fight them?” Many people thought Vegeta was going to kill Beerus because he knew Frieza was going to destroy Planet Vegeta. People want to know the history of the Saiyans and the dragon balls, they want to explore the other universes etc. the issue with all of this is Toriyama has multiple times in DB stated that X is the most powerful person in the universe. The ToP explored all of the most powerful people in the multiverses therefore there is no reason to have an arc in say universe 11 because Jiren is the strongest person and no antagonist would be threatening. Unless you just decide to introduce a character that is stronger in which case that is contrived and contradictory and now I can ask why they weren’t in the ToP? People often theorize that other characters will defeat antagonists besides Goku, I can’t tell you how many thought Vegeta would defeat Moro, but of course he didn’t because that’s not how Toriyama writes DB, he has an incredibly simple formula that anyone could understand just going through the series once at the age of ten. When people theorize that other people will defeat an antagonist or they desire to see the history of other people or see other conflicts from the past, they forget that Toriyama is a simple story teller and that these events won’t be half as interesting as they imagine them to be. Small intimate stories aren’t his thing, they never really were

@TheBigBlueBugofJustice3 жыл бұрын
@@Drvm614 It is in Funimation's shitty English dub if that's all you're used to. Keep in mind that Toriyama, who was a HUGE fan of the old 50s/60s Disney movies he grew up with as a kid, named Majin Boo and his two warlock "masters" after the song in Disney's Cinderella. The song is spelled 'Bibbidi Bobbidi Boo", which is obviously how the names of the characters in Dragon Ball were intended to be spelled and indeed how they are spelled in most of the Japanese media. Funimation however, for whatever reason, be it to avoid copyright trouble or just for no reason whatsoever like with some of their other incorrect name changes (i.e. Krillin, Tien, Frieza, Vegito, Pikkon, etc), decided instead to spell them as Bibidi, Babidi, and Buu, which is the only place you'll see those spellings. Toriyama obviously intended the characters to be named after the song, and Toei and Bandai have always used Bibbidi, Bobbidi, and Boo as the spellings on their products, therefore the people who actually watch/read Dragon Ball and respect the author's original intent stick to those spellings and not the stupid, nonsensical changes that some tiny, amateur dubbing company in Texas, 7,000 miles away from where the series originated, made back in 2001... eight whole years after the characters' initial creation.
@MistareFusion3 жыл бұрын
The character's name is ブウ. That's it. That is truly the only thing that can be considered above argument or debate. Any attempt to render any DB character name into English requires some level of interpretation. I have no problem with Buu as an English spelling. In fact, that is the literal transcription of the two kana that comprise his name: bu-u. Funnily enough, a lot of the same people who will freak out if you don't use Buu are the same people who will freak out if someone uses Torankusu or Pikkoro, even though it's actually the exact same thing. At any rate, as has been said many times, the character is named after the Disney song. As in, it's another of many, many characters whose names are rooted in English, in this case, the word "boo." ブウ is what makes that same sound in Japanese. Sounds in Japanese are the same every single time. So when attempting to convert a Dragon Ball name into English, I tend to look at two things. Does it preserve the meaning? Does it preserve the pronunciation? "Boo" very much does both of those things. "Buu" also more or less does both of those things. Although it slightly obscures the origin, it doesn't in any substantial way. Some people throw up their arms over "Frieza," but I feel it's rather similar to this. It's pronounced correctly, and it only very marginally obscures the meaning. I don't use it, but it doesn't bother me like so many of the names that are just wrong in various English adaptations. "Buu" and "Boo" have both existed for a very long time. They both predate FUNimation's involvement with the series, and they both persist to this day. FUNimation's dub, obviously, uses Buu. That's fine. FUNimation's subtitles, Viz's manga, and the show itself uses Boo. That's also fine, and it's what I prefer and am used to. So, yeah. There we are.

If the damage Badidi's minions received counted towards Majin Buu's revival he wouldnt have needed to send them out to harvest energy in the first place. It was just dumb luck that there was an extremely powerful Gohan to feed the energy collector at the tournament and he didnt even expect that to be the case bc hes shocked at how much they collected, so if the damage his minions suffered counted, it wouldve been much more efficient (and more discrete) to just have Dabra start beating the other minions to milk energy out of them. That way no one wouldve found out their hideout either. To assume that the minions's damage is collected is to introduce a huge plot hole into Babidi's entire plan

@Alienldr7 ай бұрын
A counter point: Dabura and Babidi did discuss how Dabura can't simply donate his own energy the way Gohan's was taken. And the dragon team commented how they can't sense Spopovich and Yamu. Perhaps, Babidi's spell does something with the ki that can no longer be used towards buu's revival. So perhaps that is what's supposed to happen. All damage taken should be absorbed by the ship, but Babidi's magic has a consequence of getting in the way of his minions' damage being used properly. Just a theory, but it does make him appear more competent. He didn't just overlook this detail, but just had to put up with it. He had no way to ensure people would fight each other without mind control, so it's just the best option, despite the drawback.

And it's one of the few reasons I enjoy the Buu saga so much. Which is why it pains me whenever I see someone's declaration on how to "fix" the Buu saga and they say they should've taken it MORE seriously. If anything it should've taken itself LESS seriously! Granted that does come down to personal preference I suppose, I enjoy when Dragon Ball mixes comedy into its story because I think Toriyama was really damn good at it(Even if some of his jokes have aged poorly lol). I say "was" because most of Supers comedy really falls flat for me... You're totally right on the Gotenks vs Buu fight too, that fight is so "...fine" that people barely remember it. I feel that Goku’s reasoning for not using ss3 against Vegeta makes sense when we think about how little they all knew about Buu. Goku might have been able to beat Vegeta quickly at SS3 but again Goku had no idea how strong Buu was, what all his abilities were or how fast it would diminish his time on Earth. Goku didn’t know whether or not Babidi would’ve been able to get enough energy to free Buu through some other means and if Goku had used SS3 on Vegeta he night have been all out of time or energy leaving no one to be able to stop Buu.
@g1xrider133 жыл бұрын
@Morph Ball I actually think it was the opposite. I think Goku went into that fight believing he might have been able to get Vegeta to come to his senses so they could team up against Buu if it came to that. You’re right, if Goku had busted out SS3 in front of Vegeta he might have been even more pissed off that he wouldn’t have listened to anything Goku said anyway.

I like to believe that Goku didn't use SSJ3, because it would have used up all his time on Earth. He may have been able to take Vegeta out quickly but he would have had no time left to help out with Dabura, Babidi or anyone else. He wanted to stick around as much as possible to assist as much as he could. He only pulled out SSJ3 once he resigned himself to the idea that he'd leave it up to Goten and Trunks to take care of things, because he'd no longer be needed at that point. That said, he didn't actually make that decision until after arriving at the lookout.

He would've been able to take out Vegeta in an instant. It would not have lasted nearly as long as the Buu fight. He could've instantly depowered and had plenty of time.

@@reversalmushroom He wouldn't have necessarily known that in that instant. The thing is, he was encouraging Gohan to take on Dabra and Babidi. If SSJ3 Gokū defeated Vegeta, then one problem would have been solved very quickly. And since Gokū wanted the next generation to be heroes, not him, he didn’t need to stick around. He knew Gohan could beat Dabra, even with difficulty. And the Kaiōshin wasn’t weak either. Both of them could have defeated Dabra together.
@kmgyening11 ай бұрын
I mean, he specifically talks to Vegeta as if he's going to fight at full power, and then is surprised/disappointed that Vegeta transforms to match his power level. If the purpose of transforming beyond SSJ1 (because they were at SSJ1 before they started) was to avoid taking damage and transferring that to Majin Buu, then why wouldn't Goku just transform to SSJ3 after realizing SSJ2 wasn't working? That defeats the entire purpose of what he said. On top of that, Goku specifically tells Krillin and Piccolo on the Lookout that he couldn't beat Buu because Vegeta couldn't and they were about even in power. Since SSJ3 is not even with Majin Vegeta's power, why would he just not tell them that he had another form that he was not willing to use? What incentive could he possibly have to omit that information to his friends?

Playing a bit as the Devil's Advocate, I think someone could argue that Goku not using Super Saiyan 3 against Vegeta was "Goku just wanted to fight Vegeta on equal ground because Goku want a excuse to fight Vegeta again", but that would also paint Goku as a selfish person, who doesn't care about Earth's fate, and just want the thrill of the fight... Kinda like in the Cell saga.... so I guess would be at least consistently selfish.

Goku isn't a totally constant character, actually. On one hand, he does really care about the Earth, because he also cares about his friends and family, but on the other hand, fighting tough guys definitely is his favourite thing to do in life (besides eating like a holey basket of course), which obviously makes him act selfishly sometimes and to be fair, he acknowledges it himself several times in the story ! my interpretation is that Goku did not want to kill Vegeta or destroy Vegeta's pride. He knew the reason Vegeta turned to Babidi is that he felt that he was too weak. So he chose to fight him as SSJ2 as a therapy. it was showed that Goku did not believe that Vegeta was truly evil. now if Goku were to go SSJ3 and immediately beat Vegeta, he would have to kill him since there is no way Vegeta would give up trying to prove that he is stronger than Goku. basically there was a chance that SSJ3 would worsen the problem by making Vegeta a casualty and of course limiting his time on earth.

One of comments highlighted in the video mentions how Goku’s transformation shook the Earth. Its been a while since I’ve read the Buu arc so I don’t remember if that is an anime exclusive effect for the transformation or not, but overall it does seem like outside forces aside from collecting energy can wake Buu up even if it doesn’t give him energy directly.

Then after the episode concluded show the fight again, starting with the segments you showed previously with some solid vintage AJPW funky wrestler theme music capping the episode with a call back beat down. Done right you could fill most of that 6 minutes cut.

The best possible way to ensure that happens would have been to throw the fight. Let Vegeta feel like he won, and make the battle take as little time as possible, only taking a minimum amount of damage as he could get away with to make it seem believable that he's been defeated while dealing little to no damage to Vegeta himself.
