Hunter is one of many who choose nursing as a second career. He sought purpose and fulfillment in his work as a personal trainer with a Bachelor of Science in exercise science, but shares, “I didn’t feel like I had a real career path.” Utica University’s Accelerated Bachelor of Science in Nursing (ABSN) program helped Hunter make a smooth transition into a career in nursing, and it can help you too!
After some time reflecting on what made him happy in life, he says he decided that nursing would be the perfect opportunity to find fulfillment while doing something that he genuinely enjoyed and fit his desired lifestyle.
He recalls stories his aunt told of how her career in nursing enabled her to travel while maintaining strong job security. He says his aunt “always was an influence and she was just a big impact in my life.” This confirmed for Hunter that nursing was the perfect career for him.
In Hunter’s search for an entry point into nursing, he explains, “I was looking for a BSN program because I already had my bachelor’s in science.” His experience in personal training provided a perfect stepping-off point to enter the ABSN program at Utica University. If, like Hunter, you have a passion for healing and helping people, nursing can provide you with greater opportunities for flexibility and upward trajectory.
After entering Utica’s ABSN program, Hunter found what he was searching for. He found purpose and fulfillment working in the field that he loves, saying, “When you tell someone that you're in the nursing field, it means something - you get respect that comes with intelligence and hard work.” Ready to take the first step toward nursing as a second career?
