You covered all my use cases... except the content sharing with outside world. Thanks for this video.

HOLD ON, in Feb 2023, in your video named "I replaced my terrible NAS with an the cheapest Mac mini" you said about Synology that it was "really expensive, really expensive" and that you were worried about performance, fan noise (you have a small office) and that it wasn't that appealing to you. Fast forward to Sep 2024 and Synology isn't expensive anymore and it's awesome! Not a single mention about your previous Mac mini setup... It's amazing how being sponsored changes your perspective 180 degrees. Shame! 👎

Maybe an unbiased Mac mini vs this NAS now that the M4 is out? And is more $$$ more better?

Just watched your Mac Mini as a server video then saw this one about Synology. Just curious are you finding this solution better than the Mac Mini?

The most interesting topic for me you have not touched on is backups for you iPhone/iPad/Mac, I'd love to hear about those! By the way all the ones you mention were on my list as well, so thank you!

You started with "the ABC drive just shows up" but I have a Synology NAS and have found setting up a volume that simply mounts on a Mac desktop is a big hassle, so a step-by-step presentation of how to first setup the system would be great. I've also found setting this up for Time Machine doesn't really work well. Yes, you can set it up easily enough, but when you try to actually access a previous backup within Time Machine, if it's encrypted, which it should be, it just doesn't work. I'd love to see if you can setup a backup scheme for someone else in your house (e.g., another user who's on your LAN) to see if they can backup to the NAS also (but automatically, so they don't have to do anything). Last, if this isn't enough 😅 I've found I keep getting endless security messages with no real way to address them. Would love to know what security settings you're using.

The model you linked seems to have Ryzen processor, which is not bad but then Plex is known to not be performant with transcoding media on AMD's integrated GPU. This is not a problem if you're using something like Apple TV 4K to access your Plex (and have direct play enabled, which skips transcoding), but it would be interesting to see how it fares when it has to transcode files when client is not capable of direct playback.

You will need to check shared folders , hyper backup , snapshots , tailscales to start. You are using less then 5% of the nas possibility and you need to setup a backup of your importants files too to an external drive or to the cloud. Have fun in your journey :) You can setup too your Time Machine to a shared folder specific for your Apple computer

Can you show the actual product and how it sets up? Do the drives come with the station or do you have to buy the drives separate? Maybe a shopping list of what exactly you need to get up and running. Also, can I put my time machine back-ups there, or will time machine take over the entire drive and therefore RAID as the whole.

Stupid question: is there the ability to set the Synology drive as a location for Time Machine on the Mac? I am currently using a USB HDD plugged into an old AirPort Extreme that’s just sitting on my network to backup all my Macs over Ethernet/wifi. It’s SUPER slow at only USB 2.0, so I would love for this to replace that with a much higher throughput and much more functionality.

Wish you shared how it works with Plex. Does it stream effortlessly or does it buffer with your connection? A NAS is appealing to me to store all movies and tv-shows but only if the streaming work without interruptions.

Just watched your video - wonder how you backup your NAS - is there a way to use one of the drives as a backup drive and not part of the RAID??

Needs to prepare better for his videos and get to the point. Just as terrible of a reviewer as 9to5mac's Fernando Silva.
