I got a 100% lol. I finished all the questions in about 40 minutes, thought I knew all of them from memorizing sheppard air. Decided to review them anyway. One question asked what was minimum clearance over mountainous terrain, which I knew automatically was 2000 feet over highest obstacle. But after a moment I realized I read the question too fast and it actually asked what the clearance was over NON-mountainous terrain. I switched my answer to 1000 feet over highest obstacle, submitted and got a hundo. Sheppard air is legit!

I did the same on that one while studying, I put it down to trying to speed through because there's so much content. Used that mistake as a reason to force myself to slow down and fully read the question while taking the tests.

I also got a 98%. Bittersweet it was! Missed one damn question! When I took the test there were question pools with question numbers. I wrote a computer program that generated sample tests with random questions selected. Aside from the usual studying everyone does, I took these sample tests over and over until I was consistently getting 100%. And it wasn't all rote. Every time I missed a sample question I looked up why I got it wrong so I would understand the answer. After all that, I still missed on. Arrrrgh.

Nope! You’re doing it the right way! Sheppard air is not a substitute for ground school it is a test prep. You are absolutely supposed to do a ground school like kings first before you even look at Sheppard at all. So you’re doing it exactly the right way. You’ll do great! 🙌🏻

What was your Sheppard Air study routine? I am finding that it takes me so long to get through the 1200 questions that by the time is get done I have forgotten the first questions that I studied. How many questions a day did you study and how long did it take you to get though all 1200?
@NorthwestAeronaut Жыл бұрын
I’d give yourself at least a month to get through it and do it how they tell you to. I did it for like an hour a day on average.

@@NorthwestAeronautMy fight school said two and a half weeks to get it done. They're smoking something. I still have one more 420 of the IFR&nav to do Plus weather which is 450 questions with correct answer showing and all answers showing. Then 1122 questions for all categories combined. That's a little more than 2,000 questions and they want it all done in two and a half weeks... I told them it's my money and my time and I work a job Im doing it when I'm ready to do it

Sheppard says take the Final Exam ONE TIME, and not to take it multiple times to get consistent 90's .......do you disagree?
@NorthwestAeronaut3 жыл бұрын
That’s correct but they want you to review missed questions and take it until you do get 90% :-)

This is Sheppard Air. Not in the App Store. You have to go to the website and call them. But it’s only for FAA exams in the USA. I’m afraid I can’t help ya much with what you’re doing outside the US. :-/

Everyone who has used Sheppard Air will take it with them to the grave as the best decision they made for their flight training. I'm preparing for my instrument exam a week from this Friday, so the 9th of Dec. I've been doing alright with ASA's Prepware (required by my university) for private and where I'm at in instrument, but having a pre-planned study guide would make life a lot easier than trying to make and follow my own and hope it pays off lol

If the only test prep a person does for the IFR written is Sheppard Air, How do you get the endorsement to take the written test? Does Sheppard Air give you an endorsement once you score 90+ on the practice tests? If not, how would you recommend getting the endorsement to take the test?
@NorthwestAeronaut Жыл бұрын
Sheppard will give you an endorsement if you call them. But you should have the ground school that you’re doing before you even touch Sheppard that will give you an endorsement. Or just ask your CFI to give it to you.

Your written scores mean nothing. It is the habits and skills you learn in the air that matter.
@NorthwestAeronaut2 жыл бұрын
I don’t disagree with the last sentence there. I don’t fully agree with the first sentence as I do believe written scores reflect your level of understanding and comprehension. But they are a starting point and certainly the habits and skills you build over time are extremely important. 👍
@speedomars2 жыл бұрын
@@NorthwestAeronaut Aviation is a never ending pursuit of knowledge. The important thing is comprehension and retention. Written tests are dumps after which the questions and their answers are quickly forgotten. We all study for and take them, but the tests are useless in the long run. And any score you get as long as its a passing 70% is good enough to get past them...so there is no need to sweat trying for a higher score.
@NorthwestAeronaut2 жыл бұрын
@@speedomars Well you and I will respectfully disagree there :)
@roxiereign Жыл бұрын
If written scores mean nothing, airlines, military, transit, and other piloting jobs wouldn't look into your scores the way they do. It all matters, it all means something. Everything you learn in ground, AKA that written exam, is meant to be applied in the air. A pilot - anyone for that matter - with the mindset of "well I'll just aim for the minimum standard" is setting themselves up for failure, they're not going to be competitive in their field, and they're not going to perform as well as someone who dedicated more and did care about aiming for nothing less than the best.
@speedomars Жыл бұрын
@@roxiereign The only thing DPEs care about is a passing score of 70% and the questions you missed. The tests are designed to test the EFFORT not the knowledge. No one uses written test scores to judge the quality or skills of any pilot. Most also forget most of the material soon after passing the checkride. And when it comes to commercial flying, the only test you must continue to pass is your semi-annual physicals. There are no more written tests after you have achieved your ATP rating. Notice no written tests are given on bi-annual exams checkrides. And those cannot be flunked at all.
