Thanks so much. I have definitely felt each of these problems during my served. Sometimes one , sometimes the other. So helpful to name and recognize now though! I would love a top mistakes video for all the strokes , Coach!

So good, thanks Pieter. Request: can you do a video on how to practice and gain more accuracy for hitting targets. For example, now to land ball within inches of T, or inches corner wide. Basically, looking on serving more aces.

Set up targets and practice trying to hit them. Then work on the same locations w/o targets. Then serve simulated games with and w/o targets. BTW, the goal shouldn’t be aces as that will result in too low of a serve percentage. The goal should be serves that get the returner reaching for the ball thus getting weak returns. Nobody is that accurate so some serves will go a bit wider and you’ll get your share of aces without as big a hit on serve percentage.

Another option, one I use, divide the service box into 3 equal sections, middle third, wide third and center third. Then practice aiming to each target. You can do it several ways, one into each, two into each target or say 3-5 in a row each. Then you can make a game out of it. If you hit target you get 1 point and if you miss your imaginary opponent gets a point. First to 4 points wins. Then switch to ad side or alternate deuce and ad. You don’t ever want to aim for the line, that’s low percentage as mentioned above.

Good stuff. #4 however is very dependent on the individual. Federer and other platform servers start very closed. You tend not to go shoulder over shoulder as much and toss a bit to the right which creates the issue with the closed stance. Admittedly, most club players are in the same boat so the advice isn’t bad. #9, continental grip and a waiter’s tray. My son does it, Djokovic used to do it. Got a fix?

Great! I have a question: for a short player (under 1,7m), what stance and what kinds of serves (flat, kick, slice) should be used for an optimal game? Many thanks!
