Nobody can dispute the Piaggio is the sexiest propeller twin aircraft ever. What an amazing aircraft.

I think Beechcraft Starship is the Sexiest of them all, but it's a canceled production and if I recall correctly there are only 2 or 6 in existence, and I know one at least is still airworthy, and flown in Oshkosh.
@chrisdaniel13396 ай бұрын
@@Lillian_La_Elara_Silverwood Do not get me wrong I think the Starship is awesome too, but when I made that comment I was talking about currently produced air craft. I also think very highly of Burt Rutan the designer of the Starship, he is an aeronautical genius. The Starship had several smaller flaws and one gargantuan flaw, it was way overweight. It is over 1,000kg(2,204lbs) heavier than the Piaggio which equals worse performance, higher fuel burn rate, longer take off roll, worse climb rate, etc. If Beech wanted to revive the Starship and make it from modern ultra high modulus carbon fiber sandwiched on carbon honeycomb cores with a computer designed higher efficiency wing that would be incredible. The Piaggio has a high aspect ratio, laminar flow wing compared to the delta wing of the Starship, the Piaggio wing produces much more lift for the significantly smaller surface area. The delta wing has much more parasitic drag because of the longer trip airflow takes across the massive delta wing which slows the flow compared to high aspect ratio wing of the Piaggio. The Beech Starship was way ahead of its time and aircraft designers learned a lot about composites from this aircraft, but it just could not overcome its flaws.

Amazing story Owen! Something similar happened to me. About 2 years ago, I took a discovery flight with a guy at CNO in a Gyroplane. It blew my mind.. I made a video about it and it went viral on my little channel. I approached him with the idea of a KZbin channel and he went for it. Fast forward to today and he's making me a CFI and not only am I going to Oshkosh for the second time this year, I may end up going to Germany for one of the aircraft manufacturers we represent. Nice video but be careful how quickly you raise the flaps in this bird. I'm sure you know how intense the sink rate can be. I know a couple Piaggio pilots that used to do that and eventually, during one instance, big gusts of wind came and sunk them right back onto the runway while obviously at high speed. Can just lead to unnecessary danger instead of waiting til 400ft. I've got about 5k hours in the thing so I've seen all sorts lol. Great work though and I am glad this beautiful machine is getting some air time.
@henrylee809211 ай бұрын
You say you got about 5k hours on the thing but not a single post about it on your link. I see you had references to a sim profile, could this be the 5K hours you logged on?
@Evulnation11 ай бұрын
@@henrylee8092 Huh? I don't think I was talking to you, sir. It was from one P180 pilot to another. He flew the plane beautifully, but that is something I noticed and as a fellow pilot, we shouldn’t be put down for pointing something out in a polite way. This is one of the first things your taught at Piaggio school at FlightSafety, the pretty intense sink rate. And if you were to get an engine failure in the Piaggio on takeoff, you’d leave flaps mid for a while until you’ve got a substantial amount of ground clearance due to the fact that a lot of lift is momentarily reduced when going from “mid” to “up”. Again, I’ll emphasize how great he was flying the thing. But my comment wasn’t meant for you.
