For this video I am going back to bending resin, only this time, instead of bending it after 8 hours of curing, I am bending it after 16 hours.
I often get asked, "When is the best time to bend resin", so with that in mind, I thought I would go from one extreme to the other and leave it for as long as I think is possible.
The materials used:
Resin from U Resin
Colour Obsession Paste - Stormy Seas
Colour Obsession Paste - Snow White
Colour Obsession Powder - Metallic Teal
A1 Pigments - Crystal Series - Flashing White
Crushed Glass from Ikea (alternative product: amzn.to/2WCPS1R)*
Silicone Mat 30 x 40 cm (bit.ly/petfeedmat)
Heat Gun
Roll of bubble wrap (for bending resin)
Books
The Essential Beginner’s Guide to Resin Art Techniques
eBook version: (bit.ly/resinguide)
Paperback version: amzn.to/2XEmqxn (US)*

Hi Sue, I'm a new subscriber. I've seen many of your videos, as well as your artwork, and I am just blown away by your talent, especially with your mixed media pieces. Your lovely bent resin pieces have started quite the movement of people trying your techniques, and making these, and so very many of them have done right by you by acknowledging that they've gotten the ideas from you, your designs and tutorials.....that's how I found them myself! Congratulations on starting a beautiful new trend in resin pouring. This piece in particular just came out stunning in my opinion. It's great that you're sharing these tutorials for us to try to follow and make our own pieces. Thank you so much, and please continue making beautiful artwork! Have a great day!

Thank you Andrea, I see pieces every day that I recognise and am so pleased that people are creating their own versions. Even when they are copied, they don’t turn out exactly the same. Others have gone on to use the concept and create their own unique art and I love that too 💕

This is such a pretty piece! Maybe if you lay a cloth over the piece and uses weights to hold it down maybe you could have bent it more because the weights wouldn’t have allowed it to pop back into its original shape. This is one of my favorites you have done
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
While it is still in the curing process, I don't like to place anything directly on the resin, in case it leaves indentations. Having said that, I do like your idea about using weights somehow, thank you 💕

Hi Sue, I love your videos and you are a natural teacher. Thank you for all you do to share your priceless experience with us. This is the first time I am hearing about the Mineral Spirits added to the resin. How essential is Mineral Spirits to the bending of resin? And what brand do you prefer? I didn't see a link for that in the description. Thank you!
@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
Mineral spirits, also known as turpentine, is not essential to blend resin, I use it to create movement. It creates interesting effects. I have only used the Digger’s brand, so can’t make comparisons. I like to use it because it evaporates and leaves no residue in the resin.

@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 5 жыл бұрын
There could be a number of reasons why your piece cracked. The resin you are using and at what stage you decided to bend it. Plus the temperature of your room can play a major role in a successful bend.

@SueFindlay
@SueFindlay 3 жыл бұрын
Once resin has fully cured, it is almost impossible to bend it back. I accidentally left this piece in my car on a 40 degree day. The resin was really soft and bendy. Once it cooled, it took back the original shape. That's not to say it couldn't be bent back with heat and something to hold it in place while cooled. Might be worth trying. 💕

Sue I’m in California USA. I find the Swiss roll pans kind of small; usually about 12” x 11” or smaller. Yours is 15” x 11.5”. I like the longer size, 15”. The only ones I can find, in the size I want, have bumps or animal paw prints on the surface. I tried one and the they show thru. I forgot you aren’t in the USA when I asked.
