I think it was probably a decoupage glue like Mod Podge. It dries clear and protects the paint.

I only use my acrylics and some water which helps keep acrylics stay wet longer and allows me to create a smooth blend 👍

I'm sure it's something like Modge Podge art medium used as a modelling glue that can be used to create textures when dry. It dries clear.
