The best way to get an AP or VC is to be a public figure, if not, at least an influencer. They really do care about social media, and that their watches get seen in public. Show them that you have a good following on social media, and show them you are on TV, they will put you WAY up the list. Rolex however sell thru AD's only, and hence have no say on who their watches end up with. The best way to get a Rolex is simply be friends with an AD owners' family.

I think depends in your location, in singapore , there are no wait list but it is easier to figure out how to get for example a daytona. Just deduct the grey market price off the retail price . The balance will be the amount you need to "hit" before being allocated one.

as a young man in his 20s and getting a first and only one. Would you recom Rolex Sub or VC Overseas Stinaless? To me its hard cause I know the sub is most copied watch with fakes etc and a lot of people owing one. the overseas and vc is not talked about that much. i like the sub for being very durable, at the moment I am looking at the vacheron constantin overseas and for some reason that watch is calling my name. I have a pretty active lifestyle so a durable and versatile watch would be ideal. I like VC cause its not recognized by many people and only a few will know that brand compared to like rolex, ap, patek. I feel like wearing a rolex draws unesscary attention to me since its to most well known / popular luxury brand out there.

One cannot overemphasise the importance of building strong relationships with people in the sales channel. To achieve this you need soft skills and honesty (of means and intentions). Family definitely plays an important role, but it is not related to wealth. Anyone can do it, provided they don't go around shooting themselves in the foot by being unlikeable and untrustworthy.

Would you recommend boutique or AD? It seems like there’s no more point in visiting the AD anymore, as you’re buying random pieces to obtain the chance to get a rolly or AP. On the other hand, boutiques like AP is also not offering me a royal oak, and it seems like I need to get a code 1159 before they would even think about offering the RO, even though they don’t explicitly say it. Just a rough game overall
@nyc10ken2 жыл бұрын
Great final point. My view is it's not so much about what you like but more about spotting market inefficiencies like with any other investment (sorry to bring that up). Buying what you like does reduce the risk in a different way but I'm not sure it's the best way to go about getting a future hot model. You need lots of watch experience and even so the media and market is so efficient that it's hard to get ahead.
@LumeShot2 жыл бұрын
I think we all just need to buy watches that we truly like, opposed to chasing only whats popular. I bought the overseas before it was popular, and it becoming a hot model was just luck. Its not like I bought it cause I felt like it would be in demand later on. I just really do like it for what it is 🤷🏼♂️
@nyc10ken2 жыл бұрын
@@LumeShot as a hobby yes buy what you like. But the video you just made was to share how you got the hot models at retail and youre saying it was luck that you got ahead of the market for the overseas. But for every overseas there's probably 100 sales for breitlings, iwcs, Panerais from also people that buy what they like, however they didn't make out with a hot model in the end. My point is buying what you like is great but just getting lucky that it'll become hot may not be the best advice. Anyway appreciate the discussion.

Thank you for making this video. I would like to get into watch modifications and eventually gradually start movement restorations. Do you have any directions as to what are some things I can be doing? So far I have bought basic tools more geared for modding from DIY watch club using a NH35 movement. I’ve read practicing on a pocket watch works well being that the parts are bigger and easier to work with. I also want to try and disassemble and reassemble the movement. Any advise on good books, schools or things that has best served you in the past to help build your skills. Thank you in advance! 😁

Buying history doesn't guarantee that you'll be put on an AD wait list nor does it guarantee that the same AD will treat you with respect the next time you inquire about another watch. I purchased 2 Tudor Black Bay 58 from a Tudor AD about a year and a half ago during the pandemic when buying hype on the BB58 seemed to have leveled off. Fast forward to March 2022 when the Tudor Black Bay Pro was announced and I called the same AD inquiring about the watch and asked if I can be put on their waitlist. I was rudely greeted by a douche bag of a salesman who insisted that make the 2hr drive to their store in order for him to put me on their waitlist. In his exact words, "We want to make sure you are serious about the watch." This comes after I had already given him my information about the 2 BB58 purchases totaling almost $7k that I made at their store less than 2 years ago. I guess spending nearly $7k wasn't enough to show them how serious I was about my next purchase. They obviously didn't care about buying history in my situation. I called another Tudor AD in the neighboring state whom I have no prior purchase history with and spoke to a pleasant lady who gladly took my information. Fast forward a month later and I received that phone call informing me that my Tudor Black Bay Pro was ready to be picked up. Screw purchase history and loyalty to an AD because in the end they would screw you over without hesitation.

I’m not gonna lie, one purchase across a 2 year span isn’t really a buying history for watch boutiques/jewelry stores. Most people getting the watches are making 5-10 purchases a year whether it’s jewelry or watches. I know it sucks from your perspective but you’re not entitled to anything you want because you bought a couple of tudors 2 years ago. You gotta understand you’re competing with millionaires who constantly buy stuff from these ADs. If you don’t like the game, save your money and just buy from secondary dealers. It is what it is

I have a boutique, my only grand seiko boutique in my area. And I wanted a spring drive. She said she didn't have it. 2 days later, i got a message from a manager. He apologised on her behalf and said she was new and did not have the best product knowledge with some models having different reference numbers being the same watch.and asked if I'd like to buy it. So, I went in, and bought it, after that, they got me a Rolex sub mariner. It's almost like they really need to weed out the serious buyers from the fake windows shoppers. I totally understand that. Also, I know watch owners trade in customers a lot. It does take time to build a relationship. I think also, you need to be very active. Let them know your serious, and have cash ready as soon as they have whatever it is your after. Some may try get you in the door only to close a sale and sell you something else. Others may want to use scarcity marketing, or , ge uinely cant find what you want, But, I am really glad I found a great dealer. Who went the extra mile to reach out and be honest about an error. It built trust with me. My older brother is now very good friends with them and buys from them, so everyone wins. 🙂 word of mouth helps too, if you help them build clientele. They will 100% remember this. And likely put you higher up on any wait lists.

I had the opportunity to buy my Sub and Explorer from enthusiasts I know, at a fair price for a good product. Those are the last two Rolex watches I will ever purchase (unless something else drops in my lap). But I'm not going to jump through hoops for a retailer to tell me when I'm to be "given the privilege" to buy....... it's a bloody watch and they are watch sellers, nothing more. I've got a collection with Omega, Breitling, and just getting into Grand Seiko, that I can buy when I want and in the case of Grand Seiko, are better watches. This idea of working so hard to be allowed to buy, is absurd! How otherwise intelligent people can be so foolish is beyond me.
