Ahh I love this so much!! I also love all things money. Your content is very affirming. There is sometimes shame around still living at home when you’re in your mid twenties. Im 25, I also live at home, make the same salary & I’m saving for a home too. I’ll probably be at home for the next 2-3 years but I think saving up 20% down for a home (and clearing up debt if you have it) is worth sooo much more than worrying about what other people think

Can I just say THANK YOU FOR BEING SO OPEN. I am 23 and I graduated from undergrad next week in music. I stay with my mom who is a single parent, I am also terminally ill. I feel a lot of people in the black community just move out right away but still have debt, My mom let me stay at the dorms for 2 years but then I moved home to save money, also, it was because my health was declining. I feel so weird staying at home with my mom but I think its society that makes you feel obligated. But I plan to do what you are doing, which is to have a down payment for a small house instead of paying rent. I feel that is more logical. Like I feel nobody talks about this conversation enough...

This is amazing! I was an awesome saver when I was younger but as I've gotten older life has gotten in the way :-( I have really lost my way with saving and am now basically living check to check, I'll be 40 in December and I need to get myself back together. I bought my first house when I was 25 and it was a money pit which was the beginning of getting myself off track. I am now in a much better house and am struggling to get my finances back on track. My biggest advice is continue doing what you are doing but really research the home buying process and during that process trust your gut, if your agent or mortgage broker seem inadequate or unequipped dust them fast. Your intuition is invaluable!

Yeah you will definitely need to cut down on groceries, giving. If you buy a home that should be 25%-30% of your take home pay so you’re not house poor . Also keep in mind Have to pay all the utilities and if the water heater goes or pipe burst you have to pay for it. A lot of people pay way for to much house.

The acorns app is good for saving and investing too. any purchase I make or bill I pay with my debit card it rounds up to the nearest dollar and then puts that little change into my acorns app and it grows. I withdraw it every 3 months vs the option of letting it grow in stocks bc I already have stocks and bonds. This little pennies add up. Ive already withdrawn $600 in 6 months.

If you can’t stay with anyone for free you can get a roommate, live in a decked out van (sounds crazy but so many people do it and save so much money) etc etc. I understand not everyone has parents to live but the point is to find alternatives. Don’t focus on “I can’t stay with my parents” instead think what can I do to get my rent low low. Ultimately you reach your savings goals faster and that’s the point.

What if you (meaning anyone) stayed at home but contributed to the household bills/rent and expenses and paid your own bills? I'm curious how the money would pan out then. I'd love to see a video on that. Also, for those out there, this channel is bomb! Also, independence doesn't mean you live on your own, it means you take care of your own financials. Whether you live with roommates or if your roommates are your family (this implies you contribute to the household), that's still living with someone. If you pay for you and contribute that is independence.
