When I make boxes and traps I always fill it up with frames. I use a acid brush to put the the glue in. I snap the foundation in the frames to check squareness. Like your wood shop. Thanks Randall!

Randal, I’m going to try the little tri square like you use the next time I assemble boxes. I normally just measure from one conner to the opposite conner and then measure the length of the other two opposite conners and if the distance is the same then the box is square. Your way is probably faster. Thanks for the video. I hope your bees are producing lots of honey.

I've put together a ton of boxes. I parked my air stapler a long time ago. Yes it's fast..my first thought was speed. But with time, I learned that screws are far superior. Lazy as I am, I still like to build them ONCE. So, I glue and screw. I slop on the glue too, it's cheap and I couldn't care less if it runs...bees don't either. Just sharing thoughts, not dissing your procedure. I use the air stapler on all non stress joints but box corners and the like...never again.

I think lots of glue will seal the corners better than paint. The bottom of the corners is where ours usually fail due to rot, so preserving the bottom corners is key to long life. I've heard some beeks that paint wood glue on the corners AFTER assembly for the same reason.

It seems everyone has their own way of doing things and most get the job done. Fun to see other ways of doing things. I glue the sides also and use 1 3/16 staples. Never have had a problem yet -- . I will have to look at stapling the frames your way, I see the logic to it. Thanks.

I like your assembly jig. Maybe sometime you could show how you made it.. I just put some boxes together and it would have been nice to have had one. Thanks for the video.

Do you make your 10 frame boxes? If you do how do you make your box joint?

I have made a few hundred mediums and probably 30 deeps. I make simple but joints. I glue and screw with 1.5" screws.

I staple my frames the same way. I am glad to see someone else do it, thought I may have overthought that. Thanks

On the 5 frame nucs when doing butt joints what is the measurements of the box.
@randallcarter-carterhillho22773 жыл бұрын
19" 13/16 long (sides) 9" 1/4 wide. ( front and rear cut to 7" 3/4) 9" 5/8 tall. Or you can can rip at 10" and cut 3/8 entrance on front board.

Great idea in checking bee space. I had a box that frames were to tight. Put the glue on the horizontal portion of the finger joint, glue doesn’t hold well on end grain. This will make the joint very strong and your staples are just needed to hold it while the glue dries.
