Absolutely love your run and coop!!!! I agree with treating them how you want to be"so to speak” happy chickens are happy layers! I may have to take a page out of your book and add a "wing” to the run. Lol

O M G !!!! Fernley Nevada??? I’m about 2 hrs up Hwy 80 from you … small world 😉 We are all about repurpose/reuse also👍 and my son is currently building me coop/run . I agree with you about having things for your animals like you would want…. Space ( important) and protection. You are my kind of Lady for sure! Get in & get it done ✅ I was like that in my younger years & it’s so refreshing to see a young woman use creativity & common sense😇 Love how you used pallets for the run also. Most terrific job of repurpose/reuse chicken 🐔 area!!! 👵🏻👩🌾

Aww thank you! And thank you for all of your kind responses! I'm actually in North Reno, but Winnemucca isn't far! I miss being able to just get stuff done from time to time, but I love the reasons I can't run out and do stuff too.

I'm building our chicken coop and chicken run using free wood pallets from Meeks. I would say lucky me I get free wood pallets. By the way, I like your coop and run, it's practical.
@HomesteadingHijinks8 ай бұрын
Yah, I paid 2 each for mine because they weren't standard pallets. But it's OK, I'm happy with the end result.

Hi there! We are located near you guys (Spanish springs). We are just getting started with our coop. So glad to see tips from someone who gets our climate!

@@HomesteadingHijinks Thanks! I just finished my pallet coop so now its time to make this pallet run! Glad to hear yours held up so well!Hope mine does too!
@HomesteadingHijinks3 жыл бұрын
@@Yeshuaschosen actually they came that way. When I bought them (now they give them away for free 😂) the dude said he couldn't sell them to the recyclers because they weren't a standard size. I liked them and got them anyways.

@@HomesteadingHijinks I finally got started making the pallet run but I have a lot more work to do on it.I've got them all connected together and adding posts to support it. It'll probably take me a month or two to finish it! I can't wait until it's done! I Wish I could have made it look more like yours but because I live in the city limits I can't make it as big.Mine is 8 wide x 18 long!

Next time, or when you need to do repairs, use outdoor wood screws and your drill or impact driver. 2” and 3”. Soo much easier.

okay that is it, now I have to have a palleted run, for my new chickens coming this spring, looks really nice long enough sholdnt watched this, lol, I am going to build my coop with pallets, wish I had enough to make a long run and side run like you did, I like how you did it, it is different and looks alot easier to cover it if the width is not that wide, I have shade cloth too, as soon as it is warm enough I can get working onmy run and coop. p.s. I hate winter
@HomesteadingHijinks4 жыл бұрын
I'm not a fan of winter either! I love the pallets! They're still going strong almost 3 years later. We have some gnarly winds here and it does just fine. Plus I liked having something to staple the hardware cloth to.
@rosesmith62084 жыл бұрын
@@HomesteadingHijinks I found enough pallets to make a very nice run to extend the main one, I like the look and I painted themon the outside where you can see it and the neighbors can see it. I did not do all th etow by fours because I used a small mobile run I made that didnt work out, (I made it to big and flimsy) so I lifted it up and put it on the pallets/poles,I am pleased how it worked out.

I got a hamburg too and I named her cookie/cocoa. she is so cute, I just love her white and black coloring her white feather looks almost like a thin plastic, does the snow push down between the poles and sag it? I found that I had to put 2 by 4s and 2 by 2 close together in the A frame roof on the run, to avoid the sag of snow and water accumulating
@HomesteadingHijinks3 жыл бұрын
Out snow doesn't typically stick beyond a week. But I have not noticed enough sag to concern me. It has had a foot of snow on it and I can still wall in there.
