3:44 in - You may eventually have to replace your electrical fixtures, so you need that cap to remove easily so plugs fit through the hole. Whatever method you choose to afix that cap needs to be easily reversible. See if you can carefully modify the flanges on it by flaring them out slightly, or wedging in some rubber tubing or something around the seal. If it's metal and not plastic, use the super strong magnets. They're available in different sizes and strengths. For your lighting issue, you might experiment with mirrors or white board on the bottom or other surfaces to reflect more light back into the lower plant area. Otherwise, it looks great, and I hope it's all going well for you.

Perfect timing! I just got a Rudsta yesterday for my plants and put it together last night. I haven't set everything up yet but this gives me some great ideas. I did use one of the glass shelves so my smaller plants could go up top, and I can attach a second light to the bottom of the glass shelf for the taller plants on the bottom.
@benjiplant3 жыл бұрын
thats smart! i was thinking about doing that, but i think my lights would be too strong to be that close to the top shelf. I also didn’t want to block air flow between shelves

Works great! I want to make some type of corner plexiglass shelves and maybe add magnetic shelves like yours or some Ikea pegboards that I have. Always fiddling around with my greenhouse lol. Since you have aquariums too, I wonder what would happen to your humidity levels if you put a small aquarium on the bottom level with a simple sponge filter or just an airstone. Could look really good too, if you used aquarium plants that are good for emersed growth, and have them spilling out of the tank. 🐟🌿🐟🌿🐟

@@benjiplant i saw a video where this dude put a diffusing fabric over his lights so he can soften the amount of light that reaches his highest plants. by diffusing it you could potentially help the light spread more evenly? you could possibly line the sides with a reflective material to help the light bounce off it to also spread it so it can hit the plants with the least amount of light?

Hi Benji! First thank you for the wonderful contents you share, I’m a big fan! I’m not sure if you’ll get to read my msg, but I have a quick question about your ikea green house cabinet. I saw that you sprayed anti metal rust inside wall of the cabinet, and was wondering if you have notice any issue due to the toxicity of the chemical in the spray. I’m building mine inspired by u :-D let me know about your experience if you see this message, thank you and have a wonderful day ❤️🍃

This might be a stupid question (that shows I really don’t know anything about electrics). But the magnets would not interfere with the lights and fans? I don’t know if that would ever happen? I’m asking since for some reason I’m terrified of setting my house on fire and I overthink anything that could possibly be a fire hazard 🙄 But I do really like that idea for putting this together.
@benjiplant3 жыл бұрын
no they don’t!
@benjiplant3 жыл бұрын
the main thing you’ll want to be careful of is what lights you use. Certain lights are meant to be used in high humidity environments like grow tents, and some aren’t. I don’t believe the ones i’m using are meant to be used in high humidity environments, but that’s one of the reasons i didn’t seal the cabinet or add a humidifier.
