@SuchPlants11 ай бұрын
Actually I keep my house at about 70°F, but there are several factors affecting the exact temp and humidity in my plant room: it’s up on the second floor, the window is south facing, door is kept closed at all times, grow lights, etc. Generally, I keep the same temp and humidity all year round. They seem to like it at about 75°F with the help of the south facing window and grow lights 😄

Your video guided me through setting up the Milsbo cabinet. I ended up having 3M Command sticky pads on the pegboards as some spacers against the back glass panels. I have them at the corners of the pegboards so that the pegboards hold the position. However, I drilled the cable hole on the door side as a mistake. I would suggest people make sure they are drilling on the expected side of the cabinet :)
@fredlyw19902 жыл бұрын
Hey Ron, my IKEA pegboard starts growing mold. Do you have this issue and how do you treat it?
@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Hmm, the only type of mold I experienced was when I treated plants with mosquito bits. I added the mosquito bits granules on top of the soil of some plants and green mold started to appear on the pegboard and some wooden stakes. I had to disassemble the pegboards and hose them down. I stopped used the granules and only use mosquito bit tea now and the mold never came back. My humidity ranges from 70-85%. What is your fan setup and humidity like? What does the mold look like? You might need more air circulation.
@fredlyw19902 жыл бұрын
@@SuchPlants My humidity is avg at 85% I and highest to 90%. I have a humidifier close to the left-bottom corner of the bottom pegboard and most of the mold gathers over there. So humidity / moisture is the factor. The mold is looking black and not sure what type or cause it is. The fan is facing towards the plants instead of the pegboard. I might try face it toward the pegboard.
@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Yes try facing it towards the pegboard. However, if you seal the doors sufficiently, you might not even need a humidifier in there! I don’t have in mine and the lowest humidity is usually around 60-70% when it’s about time to water the plants again, and then the humidity goes back up to around 80-85%. Everyone’s conditions are unique, so it will take some trial and error. Hope you find the sweet spot!

Congrats! Have fun!! 😆 I recently removed the top weatherstripping because it maintained ~90% humidity even without a humidifier and mold developed on the pegboard. If you find it holds onto higher than 80% humidity, try to maximize your air circulation. Otherwise, take some of the weatherstripping off. Just some additional tips after operating it for a while. I’m planning on doing an update video soon. 😊

Yup, but if you have a fan it should help distribute through the several gaps. For the best distribution, people have been using wire racks in place of the glass. There are Etsy sellers that offer wire racks cut to size. 😊

Hey! Have you had any problems with mould on the Skadis pegboard since it is made of fiberboard/wood? I've heard a few others had
@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Hi! I haven’t had a problem at first, but I did start seeing mold appear when I started to use mosquito bits. I sprinkled some of the bits on the soil of some plants, and then mold started to appear on all wooden material (pegboard, stakes, etc). In the past, I’ve experienced mold when using the granules instead of the tea. After I wiped off the mold, I switched to mosquito bit tea, which lessened the problem but didn’t really eliminate it. Other than that, I haven’t really seen any other mold issues. I believe air circulation has a lot to do with preventing other types of mold.
@berriesenmasse2 жыл бұрын
@@SuchPlants Thanks for the reply! Oh so mosquito bits did that. Good to kow. Yeah air circulation is definitely key. How high is your humidity in there on average? I might aim for 75-85 so buying a pegboard feels a bit risky although it would really help to have one.

What is the purpose of the weather proofing?

The cabinet can still become dry since the humidity can escape through the gaps between the doors, especially if there is a fan inside. Weather proofing covers the gaps so the humidity cannot escape.

@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! The hole was about 1.5” diameter, which is an uncommon size for the rubber grommets. I made the hole before I realized that so I had a hard time finding the correct grommet size. I think you can find 2” grommets more easily so my advice would be to go with a 2” hole 😅

I think when we say draft we mean a cold draft coming from windows and doors. An indoor fan shouldn’t be an issue since it’s just blowing room temperature air, which is good air circulation. 😊

This video was so helpful, so I just ordered all of the stuff I need for my tall milsbo. I actually have 2 tall milsbo cabinets in boxes ready to be set up, but I decided I’d start with one and see how it goes:) I am so excited!!! I had been putting off ordering all of the small stuff because it seemed overwhelming but after watching you set yours up, I feel much less stressed out about everything. I wanted to add that my monstera albo also just started to yellow (one leaf out of 4), and my gut told me to take it out of the pot and check the roots, and it was root rot. I feel like you may be dealing with root rot as well. I hope I’m wrong!!! Will you post an update on how all of your plants are doing in the greenhouse cabinet conditions, and how your albo is doing? Also, I am curious, did you end up needing/leaving 2 lights per shelf or was it too much light? I think I have the same lights as you do. Mine are the monios-l t8’s and I have been trying to decide if I want to try 1 light per shelf or if I should put 2. Thanks so much! -Nora
@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Hi! Yes I want to do a Milsbo update soon! I actually haven’t taken out my albo from its pot so I’m not sure if it was root rot, but I did drench it in hydrogen peroxide and started using liquid fertilizer and it is finally giving me new growth. It may have been root rot, or it may have been needing fertilizer. About the lights… I also felt like 2 lights per shelf was too much, but the plants seem to like it so far. No burning, although the second shelf gets warm from the lights being mounted directly beneath it. I’ve seen people stack 2 glass panels for the second shelf to help with supporting more weight, but it could help to insulate some of that heat. I am so excited for you! You are going to love it. I ended up removing some of the weatherstripping because it held on to too much humidity at ~80-90%. Now it is around 60%. Enjoy! ☺️
@noraramos37982 жыл бұрын
@@SuchPlants hi and thanks so much for taking the time to respond. The double glass idea is so smart! I did buy wire racks because I saw a lot of videos where the glass shelving blocked the air and humidity to the point where it was almost as if there were 2 or 3 completely isolated “chambers” for lack of a better word, but doubling the glass makes a lot of sense! I would love to see an update on your Milsbo!You’re so lucky you didn’t end up having to deal with root rot! I am so nervous that I could lose my albo!! I did everything that my research has suggested and as of right now, I still have some healthy roots and 3 gorgeous leaves. Keep your fingers crossed for me that it regrows a nice healthy root system!! I ended up taking my albo out of my aroid mix, and putting it into a clear soft pot with moss and perlite. I have an albo wet stick that I have had a lot of success so far with, and it came to me (and has stayed) in moss, so I felt that it was my best bet for trying to recover some healthy roots! I have everything ordered for my greenhouse cabinet now except for some type of fountain or humidifier. It’s the last decision I have left to make lol. I was shocked at how many choices there were for all of the little extras, but I did end up going with the same weatherstripping you used. Knowing that your plants are happy with 2 monios t8 lights per shelf is super helpful also! I think I’ll be using 1 per shelf to start, but now I won’t be worried that the light will be too strong that the leaves could burn. That was a major concern I had been having. Did you have a hard time drilling the hole for your cable management? I am not sure which side I’m going to end up needing the hole to be on so I think I am going to drill one on each side of the bottom back corners. I haven’t yet seen a video where the hole has been drilled out in real time, so I honestly don’t know what to expect lol- is it going to take 10 minutes or 30? My husband is going to help me assemble my cabinets tomorrow and I am super excited! I am subscribed to your channel so I’ll definitely have to keep an eye out for a milsbo update! Thank you again for all of the helpful tips! Have a great weekend! -Nora

Oh- which weatherstripping did you end up removing? I feel like I’m definitely going to minimally need to seal the gap between the doors in the front.
@SuchPlants2 жыл бұрын
Drilling the hole wasn’t too bad. The drill bit will drill through in less than a minute but it depends on the amount of pressure you apply. More pressure = faster, but also beware when the drill bit starts to “bite” through because it can snag and your wrist might jerk from the drill. The weatherstripping that I ended up leaving on were the vertical one in the middle and the horizontal one at the top. I have no humidifier and it stays nicely at ~60-70% on average. Of course it might be different with your environment, but I you can experiment what works best! ☺️

Did the pegboards rot over time?
@SuchPlants Жыл бұрын
They held up pretty well, considering I added a couple coats of waterproof sealant. If it is consistently about 60% humidity or lower, you should be okay. Anything higher than that might result in the pegboard warping and rotting. Mine warped at first, and then I removed some weatherproofing strips to reduce the humidity a bit.
