I recently purchased a Hoya Carnosa specifically because it was blooming. Her flowers smelled like mint chocolate to me. The smell was simultaneously relaxing and intoxicating.

Great video - indeed, informative and enjoyable! I'm a recent Hoya convert - mostly the small leaf varieties, which are still quite little, but look adorable on tiny trellises, and a few larger leafed plants that I like trailing. Here's hoping we all see some blooms this summer! Thanks for sharing your beauties! 💚👏🏽🪴👏🏽💚

Love that your a Jacks user, I’m die hard Jacks aka Peters fertilizer. I use the 15-30-15 for all my tropicals. Nice Hoya collection, if you like fuzzy Hoyas need to get the Villosa you’d love it, if you don’t already have it. I use super thrive as a foliar feed an the Hoyas seem to like it. Hope you do part two to show all of your Hoya💚💚💚

I don’t have the villosa..it’s amazing! I love the texture.. I had to look it up😂 deff adding that to my list..interesting that you use super thrive as foliar spray..I’ve been thinkin about trying a foliar spray

My hoyas vary in smells from candy (chocolate, smarties) to very floral (gardenias, roses). I've also found that the smaller the flower the stronger the scent! Since I've moved from Dallas to the PNW that has more humidity in general (I don't have to run the AC in the house except for maybe 2 weeks out of the year) I've found that my hoyas that have never bloomed are just blooming like crazy. I would definitely consider giving them more humidity. Glad to see the burtonae and matilde doing a glow up from last year. :D

Interesting! Cooler temps and more humidity huh and yes I love them so much🥹😍

Different Hoya species smell different. Some are like butterscotch and some are sweet but boozy, like vanilla extract. A few smell "floral", like a perfume blend or granny's powder makeup. Some smell like faintly like of fruity chocolate.

I havent had many Hoyas bloom, but the ones I have experienced all smell different. Carnosas with the pink flowers smells just like tootsie rolls! I cant explain kronhiana well, but its definitely more floral. Like a weird mix of cat pee and roses 😂😅

😂😂 not cat pee with roses tho! I can imagine that tho so thank you for the great description! My khroniana is starting the bloom so I’ll have a good reference.

Thanks for sharing your experience with hoyas. All of mines are outside bcz of some movement & renovations not completed on my new stand. They are potted in potting soil mixed with bark, perlite & charcoal. A few bloomed like my Hoya Pubicalyx Red, Hoya Kerrii, Hoya Incrassata, Hoya Krinkle 8 & Hoya Obscura.

A few of mine bloomed for the first time this year. Lacunosa was the strongest - a floral perfume but I found it quite pleasant. Carnosa compacta had a lighter scent, like sweet chocolate. Sunrise had a lighter perfume scent. I don’t recall what wayettii smelled like. Multi flora has basically no scent. Brevialata was very faint, not memorable. My Mathilde is trying to bloom and I have heard terrible descriptors (like cat pee!) for that one.

Hello. I have just found your channel. You have a very calming voice to listen to. I have searched a few of your videos, just wondering if you have a video of how much water you put in your no drainage pots. I am just figuring this out and experimenting with it.
@PlantsNTings Жыл бұрын
Wow Thank you so much! I wanna say possibly these videos I’ve linked below. But I can say usually I only fill it 1/3 of the way up..usually below the roots..If it’s a recently planted or transplanted plant I try not to submerge the roots in water..eventually tho the roots do grow down into bottom where it will be submerged in water. Most not all plants don’t mind. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iaPRmZJ6bNd0aLs kzbin.info/www/bejne/q4Oqd3qdhqqKnKM

Not knowing Hoya bloom scent is so frustrating! People's noses are so different; the only way to know is to experience them yourself. Most of mine have floral scents that I'm not good at describing. Roses, jasmine, hyacinth all come to mind. My sp aff Burtoniae smells like melted butter & my Lisa has smelled like cherry lollipop and hot chocolate
@PlantsNTings Жыл бұрын
Very true but those are some good descriptions! I actually have 3 Hoyas starting bloom 🙌🏽🙌🏽 I can’t wait to smell them😂

My understanding is that the mites that have been decimating some people’s Hoya growth are not visible to the naked eye. But I’m no expert. Perhaps I missed something.
