Garden Answer Hello beautiful! I loved the video. I have a question about grow lights I have quite a large succulent collection and have noticed some are starting to stretch out so I am now looking into grow lights however I have no idea what I am doing from everything I have seen I am incredibly confused. I have a shop light what bulbs would you recommend?

Maggie Marion: I think the PM pops up in your notification bell icon up in the right corner? Otherwise, try the Google+ page, that is linked to your KZbin-profile. I believe there's a messaging system there called Google Hangouts? I hope that helps - and congrats on winning!

I just started collecting and growing succulents for a little less than a year. So far I have over 200 individual plants and 150 varieties. So my home is overrun with so many plants. Im located in NJ zone 6, which means my succulents are indoors during the winter and outdoors in a greenhouse for the summer. Typically I water my echeverias, sedums, hawothias, etc about every 14 days, my cacti about every 21 days, and my living stones every few months. Please keep in mind that my soil medium is not the same as Laura's, its a grit mix of 2:1:1 of Pumice, black gold cactus soil, and perlite. Its a fast draining and airy soil. My living stones are in a Zero soil medium made of Pumice, surface, and gravel chips. During the summer I water my plants enough that the water will come out from the bottom of the hole, I do this because its usually very hot and it gives my plants enough water before drying out. Since they're in a greenhouse I try to control the humidity so I try to have it pretty dry inside. During the winter I water my plants just enough so the soil is moist and try not to water too much. Indoors isn't as hot and it takes longer to dry. Like Laura I also use a large syringe for my bigger pots and a small syringe for my tiny pots. They're located on wire racks with grow lights.

I took all my succulent baskets down to my basement in November, put them all on a table under a led shop light, never watered once for the entire 1,2,3,4,5,6 months. They were shriveled a bit by the time I brought them up last week to repot new baskets, but all alive. I have since potted them all in their new baskets and they all plumped up, look beautiful, and they are all heading back outside tomorrow for the summer. 💗

It's humid in North Carolina, so I usually drench the soil about once every two weeks. When I had them inside under a light they were stretching and drying out so fast, so once I put them out side they have been doing so well. Our aloe just started growing pups!

Move the plant to a brighter spot. Typically in a place where it gets 4-6 hours of morning light. This will help the plant to stop etiolation and continue to grow tight rosettes. You can let this grow but the part thats stretched will be weak. You can also cut the top (behead) and replant the rosette to another plant. Keep the stem where you cut because it might start to grow babies on the sides. Happy planting

Great video on succulents. I have had my jade tree leaves grow into new plants all on their own, once we found one we missed that had grown into a baby plant in a different pot! My grandmother, who was a houseplant fanatic, taught me to water my house plants once a week, I usually do the same will my succulents, but I give them less water. It keeps me consistent, so I don't forget.

I keep seeing or hearing the advice: water your succulents only when dry and then pour in enough water until it seeps out of the drainage holes. I was initially following this advice, but the soil kept staying wet for a very long time (even with succulent-specific soil in planters with drainage holds). Although my succulents looked okay, I was worried about root rot so I recently switched to "gritty mix." It is still too soon do know if it will be better for my plants, but I thought it was worth a try. Based on your advice, I also started watering with a syringe. Great idea, thank you!

I have an unknown type of haworthia, tiger aloe, and candelabra aloe growing indoors. When I water them, I typically drench them all the way through until water comes rushing out of the bottom. I let it completely dry out. I test this by touching top and bottom through the drain hole. Only if it's dry all the way through do I water again. It's easier for me to monitor the amount of water the plants are getting. This can stretch out time between waterings to a month during the summer and typically much longer in the winter.

I live in ohio so we have a history for "bipolar" weather. So it could snow one day and be 80 degrees and completely dry the next day. So I have my succulents indoors cause you never know in ohio. There really are no seasons 😂😂 so I just take as you said "the mother plant" and pot it with activated charcoal and regular potting soil. I spray my succulents either once a day or twice depending on weather. With cuttings I always spray twice and use a syringe once a week. Also just to put it out there, for air plants I soak in water once a week and spray once or twice a day also depending on weather. Once a month when I'm soaking them for 2 hours, I will add flower food for extra nutrients. They do very well with this and growing like crazy! Good luck with your plants!

I bought the syringe you use and water my plants once a week using that. Depends on the container, if it is like the plastic nursery pots you are using here, I soak them and put them back under my lights. If it is in my terrarium I give just a light watering, same with my propagation tray.

I like that you use a syringe for watering. I got these squeeze bottles on Amazon that have a small mouth catheter design to precisely water what I need!
