Your journey of embracing new hobbies like playing the cello, gardening, and tennis is truly inspiring! It's a great reminder of how stepping out of our comfort zones can not only transform our self-perception but also enrich our social lives.

One hobby I started was Friday board games, paint night and movie nights with our family. Oh my gosh, board games stuck and has been something we still love to do. I also didn't have a green thumb either, but plan to pick that up again. Many times we don't take time out to reflect. We also started taking a mini-retirement vacation for 1 month every 3 years to totally unplug. It was the best thing we ever did. Glad you are sharing this.

This video has come at such a good time. I'm facing a challenge at work and what is really affecting me is the narrative I've told myself about it and my ability to handle it. I need to do the work to change that narrative.

Yes! Back when I was working a job that I hated, I would actually send myself an email at the end of the workday with just one word in the subject line: Deinvest. By the time I got to the office the next day feeling all stressed and starting to tie myself up in knots at the thought of spending another day there, I'd open my computer and see that email reminder. That was all it took for me to remember to breathe and let it go, because I wouldn't be there forever. Good luck!

You've definitely motivated me to take up two hobbies I've had on my list for almost a year now. Tennis and swimming. Thank you for sharing your story... I love hearing the social aspect of tennis and also you and your hubby doing this together. I'm excited to get started.

I learned how to swim when I was 30 years old. It was so that I could do triathlons. I'm so glad that I took the time to learn that skill. Good luck!

@@OneBigHappyLifeI’m 30 now and always wanted to learn how to swim. Was trying to register my 6 yo daughter for swimming but she’s more interested in gymnastics. I should lead by example and try to get my fiancé to join me as something we can do together.

@@OneBigHappyLife Thank you! I used to swim a lot as a child. But stopped swimming in college and haven't done much of it since then. I'm now 47 years old and joining my children during their lessons to improve my skills. Swimming is definitely a must have skill.

Thank you for this video. All of this information was impactful, but what hit me the most was the parenting piece. I need to allow my children to experience how they are wronged instead of jumping to the resolution. Patience for processing the emotional aspect of my children instead of bulldozing to my fix it kit.

Thank you for sharing this! I am just starting my own sabbatical to work on myself and figure out where I want to go next. The trial and error bit really resonates as that's what I plan to do for the next few months; to try all the things that sound good on paper and see what I actually like doing. Thanks again for the great video!

Love that you went from: “This is challenging - therefore it must not be for me” To “This could be a fun challenge to overcome, and learn from or gain friends as well as skills”. My kids have recently started playing hooky. Because school is finally a challenge for them, now, and home is less challenging. They want to stay in their comfort zone, at home. But they have to stretch. They will grow and learn more if they face those challenges until they can overcome them or focus on the gains to be had on the other end. I have to show them by example that we can face challenges and make mistakes and kind of suck at new things at first, and that’s normal. But that doesn’t mean we give up just because it doesn’t feel stellar right off the bat. We don’t give up on ourselves like that. Or our goals. It’s important to suck sometimes. Nobody is great at everything all the time. It’s humbling and can help us be more compassionate to those struggling around us.

It's so true that with finding a hobby or physical activity, it's about finding what you actually like to do. Thanks for sharing! I am about to be 38 and am in the process of rediscovering friendships and interests. It's hard and uncomfortable, but I am extremely motivated in part because I want to be that example of resilience for my daughter 💓.
