You’re a good man mate for taking the time to make a video like this! I’m sure it’s helping a lot of people out there that are pretty clueless when it comes to this thing!! Top tip - release the handbrake so you can lower the rear axle!!! Best advice you gave your viewers mate.

here's a tip that I learned with coil spring replacements, use a big C- clamp to compress the spring a bit and it slides right in. Slowly release the clamp until the spring is seated. it was easier to do that for me rather than pull the axel down shimmy. just make sure you're super careful when releasing the clamp otherwise the spring will pop out and bust you in the face. that never feels good lol
@massoudmakes7 жыл бұрын
I did try the clamp method but it was sipping which could be very dangerous.
@defunctt7 жыл бұрын
its just too dangerous, some cars would have the springs under such load that should they pop out, the jagged edge is going to go straight through any fleshy human part in the way. You could rip your face off if it is near

It looks so easy to change the rear springs which what I'm going to do with my car, also save me money in labour cost, even I could get someone to fit them for £40 quid. Not bad really. But watching your videos as it give good idears what tools to use, how to do the job. Like to see more on how to repair or replace parts for corsa E, great idears .

Very helpful as I have to do this job on the Mrs's car tomorrow, I presume the shock just unbolts from the top similarly to the bottom? I'm changing both sets of shocks and springs but based on your video I should be able to manage it all in a couple of hours on my own :)

How you figured out that the spring has gone bad? What symptoms? I have also something bad in rear. But i dont know what it is. Rear left wheel has strange little vertical play (only vertical) but as soon as i shake it more, play goes away. Turn the wheel and play is back. Maybe bad shocks or bushings. I have Corsa C, 2002

How do you work out which way up the new spring goes? The original one(Vauxhall) has a 3.5cm(ID) coil at the top and a 4.6cm(ID) coil at the bottom on mine.
@massoudmakes10 жыл бұрын
I tried to best match the one I was taking off and more importantly made sure the coil was sitting in place securely so there is no chance of slipping out of place, I hope this helps.

If you were to charge to do this job, how much would you charge? My Corsa needs this doing, I understand its a small job, however im suspecting the guy doing it might, just make the bill, that little bit more.
@massoudmakes9 жыл бұрын
I once had one of the springs on this Corsa changed by a mobile mechanic and he charged me £55 including the price of the spring. That was a few years ago and then I decided to have a go myself, I paid £19 for each spring and I changed both of them as it is advisable to change them in pair. I hope this helps.

Hi dude, I was wondering what size that bolts which fasten the strut could be, a E18 maybe? If yes, are both the upper and lower bolt that fasten the strut the same size? Or is the upper one a E20? Thanks in advance.
@massoudmakes8 жыл бұрын
+Dixon J.G. I don't know the bolt size, sorry. I only unscrewed the lower bolt and then reused it. All I know I is the socket size which was 7/16.

I wonder if you can help me, my Vauxhall corsa x reg's rear wheels. The drivers side rear wheel is perfectly straight but the passenger rear wheel is tubing the shock obsorber, in at the top and out at the bottom. On inspection I removed the wheel and did a quick check but couldn't see any reason for the angle. The car drives well and no signs of wobble or buckle, can you show me what to do about this?. Thanks.

mine is making a kinda like a scraping noise at the back left when i go over bumpsor even when i push the back down what could this be mate
@massoudmakes8 жыл бұрын
+dennis hopkins Mine used to make a noise when going over a bump until one day a piece of the spring fell off, that's when I realized I needed a new one fitted. As I am not a mechanic I cannot tell you what could be causing it, you might have to have a closer look for any sign of breakage or loose parts.
@dennis128798 жыл бұрын
I changed all my shocks and springs about 2 years ago mate including the tol mounts and that but i have to say the front was making a kinda nocking rubbery noise when i drove or pushed down the front so i took it apart and put the old top mount back on becouse the new one seemed to tight and wached a vid on here how to position the top mount and now its noise free. So i thought maybe mounts or bushes on rear axle or something but you right i deffo need to get under and have someone bounce it and listen. Come to think of it when i put the shocks and that on the mount did not seem like thay fitted as good as the old ones but dont have old ones so cant put them back joke is only 1 back spring broke but i changed it all. You no that saying if its not broke dont fix it well i should have took more notice of that one lol thanks tho man
@massoudmakes8 жыл бұрын
