Vauxhall Opel Corsa C Rear Coil Spring. In this video I tackle the rear spring on my son's Corsa C.
If you do attempt to carry out this job please make sure the vehicle is properly supported and you have the right tools for the job.
This is how I did the job and I am in no way a mechanic so this video is for entertainment purposes only.
Enjoy.

Just changed a spring on my Combo which has the same configuration. Just two points, One, you can use a 2x3" lump of timber as a lever to push down on the brake drum to get the spring in saving the missus from getting a shin graze and secondly if you don't have a bottle jack you can use the same piece of timber to lever up on the bottom of the brake drum while you locate the bolt into the bottom of the shock absorber. Took me 10 minutes to do the whole job. Driver mechanic training in the army taught me to improvise :-) Wish we had videos back when I changed an engine using two trees and a spar lashed between them as a gantry for the chain jacks. Great video keep it up

You're right, you should always do springs in pairs across an axle, as you would with dampers, etc. It would have been easier getting the new spring in if you jack up both sides of the car as it will allow the axle to go down further, and even if you are doing just the one side, you can also undo the other damper if needed to let it go down even further. I can't remember having to loosen off the handbrake on the ones I've done in the past. These are nice and easy, and don't need any special tools like spring compressors. The only thing that annoys me is having to buy a couple of extra sets of sockets for the external torx headed bolts Vauxhall insists on using.

mrman17 Releasing the handbrake gave extra movement. I could have removed the bolt to the other damper but I figured not everyone would have the means to jack the complete rear up. I mentioned the torx to let people know what tool to get. Simple job though but it could be hard if you didn't know where to jack the car up. That's the purpose of my vids. Cheers Martin

Great vid! wish i came across this before i changed my rear springs. I struggled a little with getting the car jacked up correctly with enough space to fit the axel stand underneath but all in good practice i say. Just a tip to others who are looking to change their rear springs. If you don't have the correct tool to get the lower shock absorber pin out (hard to come by in a regular guys tool box) you can use a 7/16 spanner which will get the job done. i wouldn't recommend this as good practice but i had minimal to zero damage on the heads and they both tightened back up beautifully. Thanks for the vid Retrostore and good luck to others!

It'd be a hell of a lot easier if you compressed the spring first, with a simple lever arragement and tie it compressed with some string, put it in and then cut the string (or just buy a cheap as chips spring compresser!).

Hi I'm looking for some advice I recently just bought a 2004 Vauxhall Corsa well 2 days ago to be precise but today I gave it a wash when I was cleaning the back passengers side alloy wheel when I looked through the alloy and I seen a big whole and crack in the arm so my question is can the arm be replaced or is everything connect as one meaning I need to buy a whole new axle because I'm not a mechanic and have no clue about cars I'd be very grateful for any advice

Yeah thats my only issue with this vid, dont lubricate suspension component bolts or studs cuz they may vibrate loose as ash said use thread locker to hold it in place. Oh and scaffold bar on your ratchet 😥 you'll strip the teeth on the gears but appart from that good job
