If I have to clear brush here's how I do it. If you do it this way, PLEASE be careful. It can be dangerous and always wear safety stuff.

Great stuff. Didn’t know this attachment existed. Agree on your points: chainsaw too heavy/too awkward for ground-level, Machete high effort, string wacker not enough punch. After 3 different landscapers blew me off, I’ll be using this to clear my property myself and saving a few hundred bucks. Thank you

I cut and remove brush alot. 400mm airecut tri blade for your 240 and if you can an ms170 for for the larger stuff works very well for me. I 've got the saw blades too. They're busy gathering rust. I bang that tri cut blade into heavy brush all the time. Steel shaft on 240. Use it hard just don't abuse it.

Great instruction, many thanks. Kinda hard to hear since you shot this during a tornado outbreak, but most of the audio came through.

The Stihl is great tool. The operator on the other hand is not a great tool. It is not a power axe. Cut through your brush and allow the tool to do the work as its its designed. As a previously posted commented mentioned, this misuse is destined to cause failure. And for your own sake put on some PPE before your hurt yourself.

Over the head?! Start with the Chain saw for chest-high cutting, then the Brushcutter, I used the Echo Brush blade on my ECHO 210, using the adapter kit, includes a harness. They can get heavy after a while.

He’s using the fs240 it’s a mid/high range commercial trimmer. I believe this scratcher tooth attachment works for all pro trimmer by stihl. However stihl recommends handlebar versions. Also you should be using the anti-kickback block on the gearbox.

Purchase the bull horn handle for it if you can. Also the shoulder harness. Stihl dealer should have them and throttle cable also. I have the FS 90 with "bull horn" handle. Works well.

First, put your $$ to better use, for saws, brushcutters, blades- avoid $tihl. Much better buys on machines from Husqy, Echo, Tanaka, and blades from Forester. Small brush like that can yank saw chain off the bar. Saw blades like that go dull before much cutting. For such small stuff, much better a 10-12" 3-knife blade. Bigger, go to 9" chainsaw-cutter blade or 10" carbide. (I do a lot of this work and value my time too.) Solid-steel shaft ONLY.

People commenting on this video that he's doing it wrong don't have a clue or have never ran a brush cutter. That's a commercial grade cutter he has and it's made to work like that. That's why they sell the blade for it. I've cut miles of motorcycle trails through thick woods using Stihl and Tanaka cutters with saw blades just like this, and that's the way you do it. If you hold the blade against the wood, it just smokes and won't cut. The tool doesn't do the work, you have to swing it. Do this with a weed eater and it will break. One of these critics below also commented on my video using a Tanaka with a saw blade.

Not trying to say youre doing it wrong but. Full face mask and goggles is a must. Sounds like your shaft is about to break in half, Your trimmer is not actually made for such stuff, learned it the hard way. Either your clutch or shaft is going to fail soon. Just sharpen your blade or get tc blade and cut bigger stuff a little slower

I didn't even know this was an option. I was either going to take a week off of work to clear by hand, buy an expensive brush mower, or spend thousands and hire someone to come clear my yard. Plus this kinda looks fun. Thanks for the info!

Keep the throttle pegged when cutting with a blade, just like you would a chain saw.

I put a blade like that on my weed eater and the head is leaking some kind of oil and blade moves a small amount. Is this something I can fix do you know or do I have to get the bolt on the head replaced?

great topic to bring up. I have a few acres of brush that looks thicker than what you have but the ground cover is heavy thorn vines. Would you go about it the same way? I have tried with a Gator blade on my weed eater but it takes all day to do a smallb patch and still gets tangled. I'm trying to avoid using heavy machinery that will tear up huge trees I want to keep.

+Cameron Hi Cameron. I used it a couple of years ago where my chicken coop is now. It was 3-5 diam oaks, lots of thorny vine and poison ivy. It took me about an hour to cut it all up. Roughly a 20x30ft area. Took just as much time to haul off than it did to cut it down. I've seen videos on youtube of something like a bobcat but with what looks like a drum blade that does things alot quicker and really good but I don't want to use heavy equipment because of the cost and a few trees I want to keep as well. I'm sold on this weedeater blade. Here's a link kzbin.info/www/bejne/eHOklpR7nruJqrs

You kinda chopped at the brush with your weedeater blade. Is that the best technique for some reason? Can you sweep side to side like you're metal detecting? Are there bounce back issues? Good video.
@redneckwannabe1132
@redneckwannabe1132 7 жыл бұрын
You do have to be careful of bounce back. The bigger the tree is over 1/2-3/4 the more likely you can have bounce back. Side to side works well also. Thanks

+survivethat2012 I got it at the local lawn mower dealer for $30. I use Stihl equipment and it was a Stihl blade as well. I would assume other manf would have something similar. The biggest diameter I cut with it was around 5 inches. www.stihlusa.com/products/trimmers-and-brushcutters/accessories/trimmer-heads-and-blades/circularscratch/

I suggest never doing a demo when wind is blowing hard, if you plan on talking. No ear protection? Glad you had eye protection. I saw another video where the saw blade flung something off a guy's eyewear. Don't take the chance. Wear protection. Ps... Most all gas trimmers/brush-cutters are made for right handed people. For us lefties that want to rest the tool on left side of body, the hot exhaust will blow on your body.

That is not the way to clear brush, nor to be safe. Handlebar type brushcutter with harness and suitable blade / guard whilst wearing all the safety gear with up and down motion is only safe and effective way, the advice on this video is plain wrong !
