For perennial beds, I find that using spray is not efficient. Overspray causes damage to flowering plants and trees, and then you have dead weeds hanging around for too long. I have gotten so fast using a Hori Hori knife, it is just as fast to use my knife and dig up all the weeds and then they are GONE right away and no need to go back and clean up the dead and dying weeds. There is no danger to wildlife and no damage to nearby lawn, plants or trees. I learned the hard way using Gly 4 spray. Just using my knife and good old hard work does a beautiful job and no danger to the environment. I have enormous and beautiful flower beds and not just a tiny garden either. I am no youngster, so I'm always looking for easier ways to weed as well. Thanks for a good video. I do love using my weedwhacker upside down to do edging. It works great.

Many seeds require being turned under the soil to start germinating. I control weeds without any digging and minimal soil disruption. I pull any weeds with seed heads and throw them away. Wet the soil first for easier pulling. I use Roundup on the young weeds that are not in vegtable gardens or fruit tree planters. Minimum concentration and spot applications only. As with any poison, the concentrate is the most harmful. When mixing Roundup don't get it on your skin. Spray by hand and close to the ground when there is no or minimal wind.

That depends on the engine. Homeowner engines are lower compression and not the same as a commercial engine. Most homeowner engines are single ring piston, aluminum cylinder wall and lower compression leading to exhaust slobber. Commercial engines have two ring piston, chrome cylinder wall, and higher compression, also a better air filter. Used exactly the same the commercial unit will last much longer, provide more power and not slobber at lower speeds. You really get what you pay for. This is pretty much how I always do the weeds in borders. Never liked picking weeds. Its so time consuming and a pain for your knees and back. Afterwards I blow the weeds under the plants and (when i dont have sprayed the weeds or going for a nice finish) I go quickly over it with a hoe.

Can I add that accessory to a Sthill 45?

Does Reese have protective eyewear. It would be reccommendable since you do wear a pair. You must be aware of the risk of not wearing eye protection....

I moved into my house six years ago. The yard had thick healthy grass, not a weed anywhere. There is a bad hill out front; I see it slipping away every year. Now there is no top soil, no favorable grass; just weeds that seem to have a growing season; when one flavor dies away, another takes its place. I, too, have developed a weed trimming style: I start at the curb at the street sweeping upward, but I have to leave something there to try to hold some of the dead dirt in place. I found on KZbin a couple years back, to lay down a certain bark or compost after reviving the soil and planting a ground cover (or something); and that no rain/water will wash it away...........Any ideas??

So this popped up on my YT rec's list and I thought "Dang! That sure looks like the Costco where I live!" Turns out, it is. I've never broken any glass with a weed eater, but I have with my riding mower when I had the deck too low and drove up on the gravel pad. It broke a window in my car AND the front of my house. Now I move the cars before I mow and pay more attention to where the chute is pointed.

That works great in open areas but what happens when you got weed in your grass. Kind a hard to do that without. Tearing up your grass

If you have weeds in your grass (lawn) use a broadleaf killer since it won't kill the grass.
