Great video - and that you mentioned the risks. I have the same chinese (spindle through circular plates) spring compressor, smeared a dab of (Mos2) grease on the spindle and slide areas. Used it with a manual ratchet wrench - just felt better.

You are supposed to tighten the control arm bolts after the weight is on the car. The bushings are wound up, and that's why the car is sitting high.

Those cheap spring compressors are so dangerous. I had a friend who was working on a front end. Compressed the spring, took it out to put in on the work bench and it broke and the spring shot straight up and tore his jaw off. He was in the hospital for a long time. Could not ever work after that. Had to have many surgeries.

Unfortunately, the OEM engine mounts (Lemforder) are produced in China as well. I think Corteco is made in Hungary. I'm forced to buy from the Mercedes dealer for my 2006 E320 CDI. The Lemforder China mounts didn't last 200 miles.

The problem with the first spring compresser that you used is if you don't have one on each side, it doesn't quite compress the spring but rather just bends it in one direction. I have a set of those and learned the hard way.

Have a D2 Audi A8L Quattro I inherited along with a D4 TT version. At 160K, did the bushings & end links on the sway bars (poly bushings), Bilstein struts & mounts as well as a set of sport springs (28 or 30MM drop, German company w/TUV certification!)- it firmed up the ride slightly, but not harsh. Definitely difference in the handling & feel. Also, put a Bergman Auto Craft steering/suspension/brake upgrade combo on my '76 V8 Valiant sedan (it has 12" rotors off a '76 Charger Daytona, yes the Cordoba version) and that thing is hilariously good for a car designed in the 1960's

I was cringing when I saw the HF spring compressor poorly fitted to the coil spring and was shouting NO MIKEY, NO, DON'T DO IT. So glad you got the correct tool and prioritised your safety, you're precious and have a yootoobe channel, a duck and a dog to maintain. Re: 'the gearchange flair', could it be a tired or worn front or rear guibo, propshaft flex disc? I think you should keep both of them as they're getting difficult to find in good condition. Would love to see a drive by with your camera set on a static tripod so we get a view of the car in motion.

I learned this the hard way! No injuries, thank god, but a lot of drama. Keep the threads of the spring compressor lubricated and use a ratchet and socket! There are some spring compressors that CAN be used with an impact gun, but otherwise assume that you should not use one.

I'm glad you bought the right spring compressor tool, Mike. You really don't wanna mess with these beafy Mercedes springs with the conventional type of compressor. I bought one just like yours on Amazon when I was rebuilding the suspension on my W124 (it was around 70 bucks I think), and it was a great investment, even though now it'll sit on the box for years, it's worth it just to do the job once, so you can avoid dying, which would be somewhat inconvenient. Specially for you, always working on different Mercedes, it will pay for itself in no time.
