I like it too! It makes connecting lines so much easier! Thanks for watching and the comment! Kevin

That is pretty dang cool! Any thought on contamination from the metal, do you have to sanitize the equipment after use or before use cause you're dealing with food product?

I am always trying to make sure our lines are clean to help prevent contamination. But only goes so far after year 1. During that year, the lines are perfect. After that, contamination is present and this is why we change out drops that are under 30" long. That seems to be the magic number for bacteria to get into the tap hole. I know this video is about connecting the lateral (which is where the drops and taps are located) to the main line. But the part about under 30" is very important, at least to me. In years past, I've sanitized my lines and to be perfectly honest, I will never to that again. I would rather replace all my lines vs sanitizing. I've done a couple videos on that process. It was a huge endeavor that did not pay dividends. I think this will help folks understand contamination... The sap is running through the lines into a big tank into a filter before it goes into the sugar barn. That doesn't necessarily catch bacteria but it does catch things that hold bacteria such as wood chips, etc. Then the sap is concentrated via a reverse osmosis machine which puts it through two large particulate filter then a membrane. The concentrate is then boiled... an wammo, no bacteria!!! If proper bottle technics are not followed bacteria can get back into the syrup and cause a problem... or if someone takes the produt and doesn't refrigerate it... It is sugar and what does some bacteria enjoy... sugar a food source. I know went on a deep dive. Thanks for asking the question. We do livestreams sometimes and I would love to have you be a part of one. You posed a great question. Thanks for watching and asking us your question. see you in another video soon. Kevin

@@MillGapFarms I had thought about the temperature that you boil sap and if there's any Bactria after that, id be surprised! Kevin, would love to talk love to talk live to sugar farmer! Like I've said, extremely interested in the mechanistically of your business! I kinda laugh when you say "organic" , cause it's all "organic"! 😁
