THIS WAS SO HELPFUL YOU HAVE NO IDEA. I have planned to save up 10k to move to Japan and everyone told me that it was impossible to settle down with just that. But if you are cautious enough and use your money wisely, it'd actually pretty decent.

@weberxfabian for life, for a bit. It depends on how much you want to stay there yourself, but the money allows you to settle down as in get rent and food while you are looking for a job and stuff like that, the rest just come by as you get a job, make a family or not, meet new people, so it really depends on what you want to do

Just some quick advice for foreigners in particular. You’ll be made to process your visa outside Japan - pref your own country, but many people do it in Seoul.

Wow. Great video. But I feel like it left a lot of questions open. Then again that might just have been due to it having been so long for you to move there. E.g. did you speak japanese before going there or did you only start learning whilst in japan? How much do you actually spend on food per month? I bet you had a fun time the first few months but from the amount you spent per month (2k USD!) I can tell that this couldn´t have been a sustainable regular lifestyle. Wish you the best :)

Oh wow I did my exchange in Tokyo a semester after you did. It took me another 3 semesters to graduate though, then covid hit. Fortunately I've been working for a company based in Tokyo after I interned for them when covid hit. Maybe this travel restriction became an opportunity to save more money for my own place once I can enter, hopefully that's soon considering I got my COE in March 😪

I'm curious on the process you took to move to Japan and your visa status. Mostly people talk about getting a job first and then relocating. I initially was going to just purchase a one way ticket, settle down, and figure things out once I'm there. I've been told this wasn't a good idea. However, I've been saving for a year now, $20k and still worry if it will be enough.
@lunastarrs84842 жыл бұрын
Actually if that is a pretty comfortable amount to just do nothing for a lil while I most likely I would suggest doing your absolute best to apply for a job after the first 3-4 months of so to stay comfortable reguardless where your living
@KawamotoKe2 жыл бұрын
Are you a Japanese national? If you aren't, you actually need some kind of visa or permanent resident status to stay in Japan long term. I know your comment was 9 months ago but please don't try doing that, that is a terrible plan.
@rum49062 жыл бұрын
@@KawamotoKe I was going to say. How the hell are people just up and moving lol. You need a job to sponsor you or go as a student. Some people in the comments are making zero sense.
@KawamotoKe2 жыл бұрын
@@rum4906 Yeah, I think it's because a lot of people THINK about moving to Japan, but don't actually look into the logistics, and make posts solely based on their thoughts. The longest most people can legally stay in Japan without a visa is 90 days and they are not permitted to engage in income-earning activities. If you want to stay and work in Japan long term you need a certificate of eligibility before you can even apply for a visa and that alone can take 1-3 months. The only exception that I can think of, which people might not be explicitly mentioning is the "working holiday visa" - which allows foreigners to stay and find employment in Japan for a maximum period of 1 year. I've heard stories of people coming to Japan on a working holiday visa, finding employment, and then subsequently getting their employer to sponsor them for a regular work visa and switching over to that but that is definitely not as simple as "just up and moving" to Japan.

Love your videos. I wish I had had the courage to visit Japan like you did. It's good to do when you are young and flexible. My family and I recently moved to Japan because my Mom got sick and had to go into a nursing home here. So far we are really enjoying life here. But selling our California home and renting and setting up an apartment in Japan were a huge pain. So hard to start over when you are older and have more belongings and more responsibilities.

Most Vloggers in Japan make at least one (if not multiple) videos on the difficulty the language barrier poses in Japan if you do not speak the language well.

Hi! I have sooooooo many questions. 1. I am thinking about moving to Japan or a foreign place. I don’t know Japanese and I’ve hear it’s easier in the country to learn than learning in the US. Where could I learn the language? 2. I still don’t know how you moved by yourself. I have always wanted to study abroad but never could stick to college long enough to be eligible. 3. Do you have videos addressing my questions? I can’t move anywhere without a job. Should I look into a translation company or something to help with my moving? I don’t quite understand the currency and how to save my US money for the move. 4. I still don’t know how much to save to have enough money until I find a job. I am so lost.

I really want to move to Japan solely because the college I want to go to is located in Tokyo, but I basically got no money tho luckily I'm almost done with school next week so I can look for a job and start working full-time in order to save up the money I would need, I'm initially planning to go to japan for a month or maybe more with workaway next year when tickets to japan are also much cheaper compared to now, and with workaway, I'm pretty sure a lot of hosts provide you with housing and sometimes even meals so I wouldn't need to save up as much just want to experience Japan before moving if I get the chance to, my question would be if I use workaway and i apply for a paid position, can I apply for a work visa or something? and find a job after that month and initially stay there after that?
